    Thanks for the quick reply I will keep trying. I have an IC-9700 using HRD radio control program, SATPC32, I haven't pulled the trigger on a good antenna or rotor yet until I can figure out the basics

      I just use the SATPC32 program rather than HRD combined. You can set up cat control easy enough. There is a lot of help found in the AUX tab on SATPC32 that will tell you how to set up your Icom properly. Its found at the right hand side top of the tabs. There is a lot of info specific to your radio. It will work great once you suss it. At first I was the same. I sussed it once I read the auxiliary help files. Its worth it as its a good program and works well 👌

    I'm wondering if you have either the optional collins or inrad filters installed in your FT847. I have the same radio ( new ham), my first base. I find your demo of satelite ops interesting. Thanks. I always wondered how people utilize the multiple outputs best though I see in another video it appears that you have a 2m and 70cm yagis on opposite sides of a Yaesu rotator.

    MODE A is active these days on AO7. I have got success also on RS44 reaching england and france from canada lately ! hope to catch you on the birds ! I use to have a FT847 20 years ago, fatastic radio, made numerous contact with MIR, ISS, AO-10 at 39400km, meteor scatter and aurora propagation ! Great radio ! I now run the IC7300/9700 with Gpredict for windows, I have a G5500 with simple 4el VHF and 5el UHF in horizontal plane, will upgrade the antenna soon enough I hope... 73 VA2CST

      Greetings Aleziss - VA2CST, thanks for the comment and info. Always a pleasure to hear from another satellite chaser. Great set up your side and sounds like you do really well, I have worked Canada and USA on the same birds as yourself so I am sure we can make a qso when the right pass occurs. I used G-Predict for a number of years and really liked it. I just recently started with SATPC32 which is also really cool software. The Ft-847 I have has been in my possession since 2005 and I have no plans to change it, I like it very much indeed. I could do with overhauling my satellite beams as well lol hopefully I will get around to it soon h.i.
      I will be listening out for your call and once again thank you for dropping me a comment. Best 73 and happy Satellite operations to you my friend.

      @@M0YKSHamRadio Hi Simon, wow you are good using satpc32... I don't recall having swear that much at a software... that thing got stuck in 1985 and in 2020 still look the same, horrible interface in my opinion but if it suits your need, that is what count ! I have a 13b2 13el VHF, M² 432-9WL 21el UHF and M² 23CM35 35el 1.2GHz in the attic... I just need to install the new tower, run the new coax cables and assemble all the antennas on the G5500... so yeah, nice project ahead but it got delayed another year because of the pandemic... so still running with the tiny antennas but we would sure be able to make contact through RS44 when we get the right pass between europe and america ! 73 de Claude VA2CST

      Can't wait to catch you on a decent pass it would be Great.have a nice weekend and thanks for the information. Best 73 de Simon M0YKS 👌

    How do you pick the up link freq to use? do you just pick one a random within the bandwidth? thanks for the video. There is really not a lot of instructional vids on SSB birds. i have a dual 818 mobile setup and need all the help i can get. Im just getting started.

    • @M0YKSHamRadio
      @M0YKSHamRadio  4 года назад +2

      Check out the amsat satellite tracking page it tells you the real-time up and down frequency as well as USB and LSB amsat.org.ar/pass.htm#Top

    • @Olderbird
      @Olderbird 4 года назад

      MØYKS - Ham Radio I understand that part. I’m just wondering how you pick which frequency to use in the bandwidth of the uplink frequency range? Is it just one at random or do you have a formula or something like that to help you pick which frequency to start calling CQ so you can find yourself on the downlink? Thanks

    • @M0YKSHamRadio
      @M0YKSHamRadio  4 года назад +2

      @@Olderbird I used to check the amsat site that I attached the link and there on the right is all the frequency lists. I then set the radio to the center of the bandwidth on both up and down. But if you click on the sat and highlight it the frequencies are displayed on the radar so you copy them and you will be right. I also find it handy to put uplink on cw and transmit a tone as it is easy to hear on the downlink then switch from cw up to the correct ssb up usually lsb but it will show it next to the frequency readout on the amsat tracking page

      MØYKS - Ham Radio angle was perfect! If you tap the +/- icon you can adjust the brightness of your image by sliding along between -2 and +2.
      Drag the slider to the left when shooting in bright conditions to help prevent over exposure (where the image is too bright), or to the right in darker conditions to help prevent under exposure (where the image is too dark).

    my only rig with ssb is ft817. i know duplex is better but how can i download (for chirp) or work out frequency pairs to store in memory to use these birds? i know its best to have 2 rigs, and that its a linear transponder or inverted and not channelised but im thinking 20 pairs in memory for each bird might do. i have lots of spare memories

    • @M0YKSHamRadio
      @M0YKSHamRadio  4 года назад

      Its not the kind of thing I would try its easy enough to follow the frequency change with the vfo. Two radios or a radio that operates across two bands is best cant really help you with that idea. 73 good luck

    • @MichaelLaferriere
      @MichaelLaferriere 3 года назад +1

      I've been working the FM birds since December. Was hoping the SSBs would be similar in operation but now I'm curious. For the FM sats I have a dual band Kenwood that I use. I keep both bands in VFO and tap them up or down as needed instead of channels. Figured programming a few channels for each would be difficult to remember and keep track of. I set the step size as small as possible (5KHz on my rig) and then tap each up or down as needed depending on the doppler. 73 - KC1OCA

      Hi William, sorry to hear your having a couple of issues. I downloaded the software here www.dk1tb.de/indexeng.htm
      I had a couple of issues at first as I had downloaded the wrong program which was solely for ISS and I wanted all the birds. It looked the same but did not control anything. I am not sure of what issues you have but once I downloaded the correct version its been happy days ever since. hope you get it sorted.
