Yeah, how cool is that? Many thanks to Rob KC0ECQ for the unplanned collaboration. Hopefully these videos will inspire more participation.

Super cool pass. I used to have the full on sat station with an az-el rotor, etc., back in the Oscar-13 days. Had been out of the sats for a while. Recently picked up an arrow antenna and have been playing on the FM birds. Really anxious to try out one of the linear sats but I am not looking forward to the "hand tuning" of the antenna. LOL I have an FT-847, so the radio part is figured out. Maybe I will catch you on RS-44 one of these days. 73 de N6VHF

A trick to tune the 9700 with the SAT controller. A) Set up your CW to transmit at 500hz and set the Keypad buttons as the keyer. B) Engage the Quick CW button on the SAT controller. C) On the Radio, press Menu, then Audio (you can do this while the SAT controls it). D)Transmit the CW while watching the Audio Scope. Since you set it to 500hz, use the RIT to align the signal to the 500hz mark. E) Unclick the Quick CW in the SAT controller; you are now perfectly aligned.

Once you sync up and downlink with the R.I,T. can move around without having to re-R.I.T. again. Can you save the R.I.T setting in the S.A.T. and will that apply to just the one bird or other transponder birds as well? Thanks and 73

Generally, the RIT sync is “set and forget,” although I tend to touch mine up as the pass progresses. It depends on whether I’m wearing headphones and my tolerance for being off-frequency. The RIT setting is specific to, and saved for, each particular satellite. (At least, I think it is. That’s been my observation anyway.)

Thanks. I have made several QSOs on straight FM birds but still working on getting my first QSO on a transponder Sat. 73 WB6LAU @@NC0Q

I do the FM birds and long QSOs are a no no. So my question is...are long QSOs acceptable on the ssb sat.? If yes is it because of the bandwidth available? VA3HRY

Yes, the available bandwidth allows multiple simultaneous QSOs, and ragchews are common.
