Good morning Peter it’s always great to see you posting on RUclips. I have missed your videos they are so informative. And that’s wonderful that you was able to get the OM radio going. I hope your family is doing well. 73s and hello from the Texas Hill country. WD5ENH Steve
My local Yaesu parts department have always been able to help me with hard to source parts. Last year they were even able to supply me with a new encoder for on old FT-747. Apparently the last one in Europe. Excellent service from Yaesu. Unfortunately can't say the same from other manufacturers. Kenwood being the worst offenders. Great video as always Peter.
@@johncundiss9098 Certainly here in the UK at least. Yaesu UK have a great inventory. Usually next working day delivery. I can't praise them enough. Just tried to order some parts from the Kenwood dealer last week. They quoted 8 week lead time from Japan and a minimum order quantity before I could order a single transistor.
Hey Peter, Welcome back & I have missed your content very much & deeply appreciate your time to make this video & all your videos as it's also a valuable resource for us when we can't afford the latest & greatest. Fantastic tips for both experienced & newbie techs out there & awesome work. Thankfully, these pots are still (somewhat) available but 100% agree, these oddball parts will get more difficult to source in future. Anything mechanical or exposed to air/moisture is always going to be problematic which is why they use lots of encoders these days, but that presents another set of issues. For 1998 this radio back then was as desirable as the Icom 705/7300 or Yaesu FT100 or FTDX10 is in 2022. 73s
Hello Peter, nice to see a video, have surely missed them. Nice repair job, it's to bad parts are going to get harder to find for these radios along with others. Thanks for sharing hope all is well. 73
Good Job Peter, nice to see you again after a long time; in this case it's difficult to find a part but lucky there are some parts fit in a good way. 73s my dear friend, Pasquale IW0HEX
Good video. I am one to testify that cleaning a radio inside and out makes a huge difference. All radios get dirty even on the inside. I remember long ago when TV still had tubes in them. A customer would drop off the set for repair. You fixed it but then took some cleaner to the screen and removed 10 years of gunk. The customer comes in and asked what did you do to brighten up the picture. Don't tell them It is a trade secret.
Nothing like a good ole can of tuner cleaner to get dirty pots clean. When I was repairing radios, I went through many cans of tuner cleaner. I sure do like that solder sucker iron. W Rust Lane K9POW in eastern Tennessee
Nice work my noble friend, I have a copy of this one that is dropping this frame tape between the front acrylic and the display, but working perfectly. Happy weekend to you and your family noble 73s
Hi Peter, thank you for another informative video. Pleased that you were able to source difficult to find parts and complete the repair on the radio. 73's
Hey Peter, long-time-no-video! Starting to get worried about you, glad your back. I kind of miss the disassembly 'footage', but still another GREAT video!
Peter, ich freu´mich. Nice vid after long time, i hope you will prepare for autumn and winter with so fine vids ;-) Alles Gute, ich hoffe Dir und Familie gehts gut! 73 de Olaf
It was great to find an NOS part. It's getting harder to repair transceivers because of unavailable parts; you have to have a small warehouse of donor radios these days. By the way, what is your opinion on the SMY01 Rohde & Schwarz RF Generator? Thanks for the video and have a great weekend.
Eigentlich ne Schande für die Hersteller der Geräte was Ersatzteile angeht , bei einer gewissen Preisklasse sollte das normal sein jederzeit Teile zu liefern !
All the procedure is OK, thanks for sharing it, but PLEASE, don't use bare dry paper to clean an LCD, as it will generate tiny scratches. Use a soft damp cloth instead 👌
Welcome back Peter!!!!!!!!!!! Im so glad to see your post again. You are a credit to you tube!!!

Is this true? I wrench on old radio's and have never contacted OEM for parts. Often wondered how much help they offer for the older stuff.

Beautiful radio.
This is next on my repair list. Repaired UHF module, now to find a replacement pot. Mine is scratchy and has dead spots. 73 de VE3TMT

Peter is a wizard !

By the way, what is your opinion on the SMY01 Rohde & Schwarz RF Generator?
Thanks for the video and have a great weekend.
Finally a new video!!!
Good morning Peter, where have you been so long? :)
Nice ! I try to find this potentiometer, but... So difficult to get one.
Parts like that should be made for at least 30 years so they can be available ......
Is it possible to repair the pots? Are there any 'over-the-counter' replacements that would work?
Possible but difficult. Search for pot repair of TR-751, it is more or less the same system.
Would of been nice to see you dismantle the potential meter to see if it just needed a clean and oil.
Hi bro watching from Jamaica west Indies, can you recommend a good capacitor tester for me please an thanks !!
Peter ,Which could be a segment of the minor vfo digit erased, thanks.
Can I send a ham international multimode2 for repair?
Worst case you could have swapped encoder from the RF power Mic control beside it,
Hi Peter, how did you removed the vfo knob? I'm struggling with it!
pull rubber off there you find a little screw
Thanks, I also thought it was under the rubber but in the end I found the screw under the jog and shuttle knob, only a sadist could put it there!
Peter! I got the same problem with my 847!!! What is the type op the potentiometer??
Please take a look into the service manual which is on the web...
@@TRXLab Thnx for answer!!!
finally another great video by Peter ... best 73s de DL6RDE / AA1KD, Charlie

Tja leider
So it was a bit of pot luck then
Peter, I cringed when I saw (heard) the stiff paper used for cleaning a transparent face plate. Use Kleenex or microfiber - please.
All the procedure is OK, thanks for sharing it, but PLEASE, don't use bare dry paper to clean an LCD, as it will generate tiny scratches. Use a soft damp cloth instead 👌
You are right, I remember from my job, we had to use lint free cloth….
Can you repair mine please
Good job. IW2OGQ, Rick
