  • Starfield’s first major expansion, Shattered Space, delivers a focused story in a hand-crafted, unique new world, while diverting from the game’s core formula just enough that it feels, at times, like playing a completely different game, which is both a good thing, and a bad thing.

    The 3 criticisms i have with this DLC:
    1. No new fully fledged followers
    2. The existing ones like Andreja barely interact with the quests
    3. ZERO new ship parts

      2. Isn't accurate, it's definitely a glitch...I believe it's a glitch from the "Leadership" perk that needs to be fixed. Smh. Andreja actually interacts quite a lot throughout the main part of thee quests and even side quests. She's actually talking to the NPCs and they're responding to her in return. In vanilla Starfield, NPCs would usually chime in to a conversation, but the NPC would never really respond to your companion at all unless it was a dialogue choice with [Insert Companion's name here] available. For me, Andreja commented a lot on the star station, she commented a lot when we landed, and through out. As a matter of fact, if you haven't married her yet, becoming "Promised" actually changes her dialogue with you and she's not so pessimistic about your future together. Before, having the "Serpent's Embrace" trait wasn't enough, but once you become "Promised", she's overjoyed and your romantic dialogue with her changes. It's not a dramatic change, like nothing revolutionary, but it changes enough in my opinion. Your 1st and 3rd points are 100% valid and I'm actually very disappointed they didn't do either. If they weren't going to do 1., they should've overloaded Andreja's dialogue to make her similar to how they did with Nick with Far Harbor but better to the point that having a new companion would seem pointless. I feel like, especially with our "unique" situation, we should've had at least 2-3 new followers. The lack of ship parts thing is more forgivable since House Va'ruun doesn't their own star yard and uses the same parts as the rest of the Settled Systems, but I would've wanted some kind of unique color palette for the ships or paint jobs or something. I feel like, in classic Bethesda fashion, we are going to get a ship/robot centered DLC (prayerfully a free one) that focuses exclusively on ship parts and possibly customizing Vasco and/or building our own robots. Bethesda did a pretty good job here in my opinion but they need to do better and step up their game. I don't mind this being a self-contained story but they really need to have the next DLC(s) have an impact on the larger world as well in my opinion.

  • @GrecoRomanNinja
    @GrecoRomanNinja День назад +2

    Overall this DLC isn't bad. I've been desperate for more detail and info on House Va'ruun so that's great. No big change in gameplay; it's more of the same but with a design aesthetic that feels more magic than scifi. I do wish Bethesda would have accompanied this DLC with a general game patch that updated things like the inventory and menu interfaces to something that wasn't so incredibly drab and barebones.

      Also i think starfields strength is how much lore you can find, and how much theyre intertwined. And it all depends on how much youre willing to search for it. The random NPCs in the city doesnt really make the game feel alive, but all the kinda hidden lore that connects with eachother does.

    Bro, you were so spot on and I love it. Your review are so good because it's an honest review, giving critiques where they are needed but not venom filled ranting for no reason, and you also give praise where it's due. I think a lot of people were hoping for Shattered Space to be like Far Harbor, self included, but It's somewhere between Nuka World and Far Harbor for me. I would put it above Nuka World (as a reference point) but it's lacking the in-depth quality of Far Harbor. I really want them to make another DLC that continues off of this DLC to either expand it or have it affect the greater universe as a whole. Even if they make a completely new DLC all together, I want the DLC to not only have a self-contained story but also to be well fleshed out enough to also affect the wider universe as well. I'm definitely enjoying Va'runnkai and my affect on the world and story. At first, I felt more at home on Akila City, but now, it's definitely Va'ruunkai. I agree with you, 100%, that Bethesda peaked in story with the UC questline, by far. For me, it's a toss-up between Shattered Space, Ryujin, and Crimson Fleet, I love these 3 stories. The Freestar Collective one is still lacking as per the usual.

      In the end it all comes down to petty resentment over the fact that Todd isn't prioritizing TES 6 as they think he should, and anything that he releases in the meantime will be "bad", and the evidence for this is how the game was getting A LOT of hate all the way back to when Bethesda released the announcement trailer back in 2018.

    You know, it may sound weird to some people, but if you roleplay and try to immerse yourself in some scenarios, the game can be more challenging and engaging.
    When I go to Akila I usually leave the spacesuit and the jetpack in the ship, this makes dealing with the wildlife and the shaw gang more thrilling. Also makes sense you dont need a spacesuit to go on a safari on a breathable planet.
    I used to mod skyrim to make things like preventing the character to jump or eat in the middle of battle, among other mechanics. Some self imposing challengings in the name of immersion can make your game more engaging. If there's a scenario where Im being hunted in a cave I wont use jetpacks.

      (Haven't played SF yet)... I think that is quite a common way of replaying Bethesda games (or in my case, Fallout New Vegas).
      This is also why the "New Game Plus" approach does not appeal to me. If Im going to go through the same quests and dialogue, I want to do it with a totally new character concept which adds difficulty, not the same character with more godlike powers.. but I have heard SF has a lot of built in grind to make NG+ the expected way to play.
      (edit: "adds difficulty" is not quite the right phrase. Perhaps "requires a different play style" would be more accurate. On your first play through you may have high speach and a sniper rifle, so maybe play as a low int chem-addicted cannibal who just wants to be loved :) )

    • @AHungryHunky
      @AHungryHunky 2 дня назад

      @peterd9698 Starfeild is definitely designed around going through NG+ at least once, since it does unlock some special dialogue, encounters and, without being specific for spoiler reasons, the chance to make an outcome more favorable.
      That said, the great thing about BGS games is you don't have to do it at all. Skyrim might have been set up with the idea you're Dovahkiin, yet at least half my playthroughs my character is not. The game is set up to allow both new characters and keeping your current one for multiple playthroughs.

      ..Thats another example of where playing through as a different character would probably make more sense. Where I think Starfield could really shine is if they deemphasised the main story and let you select your main story as you play with your choices. A big part of that is you choices have to cut you out of some content.

    @dantefettman354 День назад +1

    I really enjoyed Shattered Space. It looks stunning, the new outfits and spacesuits are awesome, the music is great, and in my opinion it has some of my favorite quests and writing in the game overall.
    However, reflecting on my time with it, I do feel it's overall an underwhelming experience as an expansion. I'm primarily talking in terms of new content such as such as new armors and weapons. While there are new armors and weapons in this expansion, I have found no uniques whatsoever. This is super disappointing for me, as I feel a key aspect to meaningful exploration is meaningful loot. Another big issue I have is the final act and ending. I'm not gonna spoil anything, but long story short? It feels rushed. Despite the main story being around the same length as most BGS expansions (Far Harbor's main story is around the same length, for example), it *feels* short. I think if 1-2 more hours were added to the main story, it would've satisfied me and probably other players who were disappointed with the length.
    Now this is just me theorizing, so my word is not gospel. I have a feeling this expansion is way under budget in terms of development. It feels like BGS had more planned but had to cut stuff, so they didn't over budget and miss deadlines. This could explain why aspects of it feel half-baked.
    Another thing: for quests and their choices and consequences, there is actually quite a bit going on - much more so than a lot of the side quests in the base game (Excluding the faction questlines, of course). In the main story, you can actually lose out on a possible crewmate if you make certain choices. Many of the side quests outside the main story also have some meaningful choices and consequences that I felt were more impactful than much of the main story. I'd say that's a positive with Shattered Space.
    But overall, I feel this expansion will satisfy most players who are already into Starfield. However, it's not gonna sway the opinion of those who don't care for it. It's definitely not gonna sway the opinion of those who dislike it.

      I have a writing background and have written scripts for various mod projects. I have a personal rule that 3-5 lines of dialogue per dialogue option is the sweet spot for RPGs. If you go beyond that number, then you risk dragging the dialogue experience with bad pacing. If there's more than 5 lines, then you need to tighten up the script.
