In 1963 my grandfather bought me a Lionel train set for Christmas. One day when it was raining, I decided to try to set it up. But there wasn't enough room. So I placed everything back as it came and slid the box under my bed. 37 years later, I asked my mom if my train was still there. She said, "yes, it's in the attic." Well, it wasn't in the attic. It wasn't anywhere. She had given it to Goodwill. A BRAND NEW LIONEL TRAIN SET!

That's a terrible 😔 feeling! I never had a train set of any kind, but I remember having a foot locker full of comic books back in 1974. Fantastic Four, Incredible Hulk and so many others! My mother forced me to get rid of them, giving them to my cousin in Wisconsin. With the value of those comics now, I could have had quite a bit of money! I can understand how you feel.

Thank you so much for keeping my childhood alive and so much inginuity and improvements. Im at the stage of my life where its time to do my own thing. My older cousin had a set that was passed to him from my Grandfather. When my Grandmother passed in 1997 , everything was to go to me. My Greedy, black hearted Aunt threw everything in a dumpster so she said( yeah right. I believe that!). In spite of me she sold it all! Six sheets of Half inch plywood with the layout of the East Syracuse NY to the Minoa NY railyard with the hump that actually functioned most of the time that started in the basement, went up along the stairs to the living room, gradually climbed tothe ceiling in the dining room, circled around. And headed back down to the basement.I was fascinated with the layout and every Christmas Santa (meaning me) would get a new structure or scenery every year. The next season it would be added until Grandpa passed in 1978. Every year until Grandma started showing her dismay and it really started hurting inside we finally decided to pack it up.My Grimy Aunt resembled the wicked witch on the Wizard of Oz in spirit and believe it or not HER LOOKS! HOMELY SEAHAG SHE IS!! If it wasn't against the law,she wouldn't breathe another breath for what she stole from the family. Not only the train set, but the memories we cherished. A few of us have VHS tapes to remember and old reel to reels but she destroyed so much of us. I hope and pray no one else has had their memories stolen from them , but if so I feel for you. Thank you for reminding me about my Grandpa. BTW, my great Uncle worked for NY Central years ago too.

I purchased a JLC Legacy Big Boy #4024 back on January 30th of 2021 and it is impressive. Although it looks exactly like the Vision Line in detail, it does lack some of the enhancements such as whistle steam/smoke, blow down steam/smoke, individual smoke output for each stack and depleting coal load along with multiple speakers and the quillible whistle. Now Trainworld still has them, I'm tempted to get another.

Yes, "ACH DU LIEBER, MEIN SCHATZ"!!! WOWIE, WOW WOW! I'm not into model trains, but the "GORGEOUSNESS" of this fabulous engine turns my "LUSTER" way up there! Actually it's hangin' on the floor!!! I greatly love mechanical models like this, which is why I love this engine so much! All the working parts are on the OUTSIDE to marvel at! I'd guess the cost of this train to be at least $1700 + S&H! Wish this review could have been in more detail! Yes, "Senor ERIC" would be the guy to do so! How many man-hours did it take just to assemble this model? What is its pulling power? The special "guest appearance" by that ol' "kadoodlehopper" ERIC HISSELF" was enough to make me loose most of my "bodily functions"!! AND he wasn't the GUEST, but the "BIG KAHUNNA", although the host was a great guy too! Thanks so much for this most wonderful review"! "Gesundheit" und pass da LUTEFISK und veinerschnitzle und saurbraten poleaze!!!!!

I wish so bad anyone in my family were into model trains....I plan to have my own layout when I retire but if only I had someone to grow up with. I would be in heaven!! Or maybe I should try and start a community layout

Lionel did a great job with the Big Boy wish they would have run it at a higher speed though. Sadly though the costs associated with this great hobby are getting out of control and it is not really affordable any more for a lot of people especially when a new locomotive (HO) can be well over $100.00 dollars for just a DC version and with cars costing upwards of $25.00 to $30.00 dollars is it any wonder kids would rather sit home and play video games. I was reading an add for code 83 track the other day and for $50.00 I could by 5 pieces of 36 in flex track, when did track get so expensive, good God. I'm just glad I got into the hobby when I was younger and amassed my collection over the past 45 years. Seriously I have not purchased a brand new HO locomotive in years and I have a good job, in fact I work for the RR and make a good living. I also collect Lionel Trains and prefer the older ones to the newer ones, you can work on the easier and don't need an electronics degree. I bought the polar express set and the micro switches on the locomotive are failing and losing contact, the transformer fan crapped out within the first few months, and try to get parts from Lionel, I needed a truck for one of the Polar express cars, not available from lionel Like many parts, oh you'll get a nice parts list but most of the time the parts are unavailable, I had to by a junk car at a show just for the truck. Maybe if Lionel still made their stuff her in America the quality would be better, so yeah I don't buy new Lionel anymore either. Well, that's my rant, still a nice engine though.

No, they didn’t. The direction control box is missing on the right side of the tender. The dual dynamos are missing from the left side of the boiler just in front of the cab. The cab is actually enclosed with doors, not a curtain. And one of the most visible errors are those two red ash pan control wheels, which along with the ash pans, were removed when 4014 was converted to oil. For what they are asking for this locomotive, these are really kind of unforgivable errors.

Ah the 4014, I am lucky enough to live in Cheyenne Wyoming, where she was restored. And I watched her head west on her run to Utah. The ground shook and so did my camera. It was and still is a sight to behold when she goes chugging by. Not quite the same sound as a coal fired steamer but still awesome to the max. My short video of her rolling past me, is on my channel. P.S. I remember a cold wet rainy morning when they fired her up and rolled her out. The first time they blew her whistle that day, sounded wet. They just didn't have enough steam up yet. That takes time, even with a oil fired boiler.

Lionel is getting better all the time. That is an amazing engine. Every scale size is perfect for somebody. For me it's American Flyer Trains. Not too big and not too small. Please demo the Lionel American Flyer Challengers, The 4-6-6-4 is the most beautiful locomotive I have ever seen. Their 4-8-8-4 big boy is nice too, but the Challenger is my favorite. James, you always do an awesome job pointing out the details and running the trains for us. Thank you James and Merry Christmas!
