I have finally played Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged, and I made a follow-up video on my thoughts about the game: ruclips.net/video/GAxSYbi14s4/видео.html
I really enjoy your constructive criticism as you critique flaws instead of scolding the developer teams. I was curious to see what other people were thinking of HW Unleashed after months since the game was released, and this video sums up why I barely play the game.
One thing that truly frustrates me is that the game doesn't have different "game modes". You only have your Quick Race and Time Attacks. The game could've had an Elimination mode. Plus, we don't have many environments, which makes me feel like I'm playing the same level over and over again with just a feel small differences - these differences being the different track layouts!!
Having some form of 'combat racing' mode would actually give players a reason to pick slower, but larger trucks, offroaders, ect. Like currently there's no point to using the armored bank truck.
I haven't bought the game yet but from what watching videos of it online, one complaint I do have for the game is the underwhelming soundtrack. The music just sounds so basic. I want a soundtrack that is on-par with the soundtrack for Hot Wheels World Race.
long read but heres the thing about unbalanced cars. they DO have tiers. the "tiers" are actually separated by their rarity. and this is evident in the upgrade system. milestone made an attempt to balance slower cars by giving them the boost bar over the boost bursts. a car can be considered fast for one tier, but slow for another, vice versa, or any combination of. and these are weighted against the stock cars of that particular rarity. thats why cars seem to inconsistently gain and lose boost types as you upgrade them. for example, upgrading solid muscle from common to rare gains a boost bar. because at the rare rarity, it is considered slow. but when further upgraded to legendary, it returns to boost bursts because it is considered average for the legendary rarity. but if you were to upgrade something unfathomably slow like hw high or total disposal, they keep a boost bar at all 3 rarities because theyre just consistently slow. the boost bar is _supposed_ to come with the advantage of boosting longer, allowing slower cars to keep pace. milestone also confirmed that the primary gimmick of the boost bar is that the boost strength gets stronger the longer you use it. and that sounds good on paper. HOWEVER, it is massively flawed. regardless of the vehicle or rarity, every car in the game is capped at 300 speed units. and this cannot be exceeded. it doesnt matter if you are boosting straight down in the air, or travelling downhill boosting on a speed strip. you will be capped at 300 units. so since every car boosts at the same top speed, you wont gain any ground with a stronger boost. that just makes the reward of charging up your boost bar completely to have a much stronger boost is just null. so in reality you can only keep pace when boosting, but then you immediately lose ground when not boosting because you just dont have the speed to keep up. and that hits hard around the tighter bends and corners where boosting isnt the optimal choice and youre forced to slow down in an already dirt slow car. the second biggest flaw is that you cant charge a boost bar when boosting. with the bursts, you can charge a burst while using another, effectively allowing you to chain as many bursts as you can within your skill level. but with a boost bar, you cant. recharge pads are ineffective when boosting, while drifting when boosting only slightly slows down the usage but doesnt cancel it out at a 1-1 ratio. so you are always at a disadvantage of loosing boost much quicker. the final nail in the coffin is that using a boost bar comes with a "usage penalty" of sorts where the initial start drains like 1/8 of the bar just to activate. so trying to use a bar with strategic bursts becomes detrimental. because in the end youll waste far more boost on activation over actual boosting. milestone did make a statement in the discord saying they are looking to overhaul the boost system to balance slower cars, but i personally dont feel like itll do much good since the stat gap is already far too wide to make any of them viable.
What doesn't make sense is the inability to use user-content offline. Like for example, if I create a track offline, I should be able to also use it offline (in actual races). We should be allowed to download tracks from online, to use offline too. Also the pool of cars we have in the shop are just...eh. Like when you do enough of the racing seasons, and have bought every car from the shop, you basically don't have anything new to buy.
I have a handful of videos on my channel illustrating the design flaws you've described here. The lack of classes really becomes apparent when there are vehicles in this game that are 'jack of all trades, masters of all' and then there are others that are slow, unstable, and corner horribly. Like Buns of Steel is already not even remotely competitive, but it literally flips over all the time because Milestone gave it top heavy physics for its giant plastic burger
I feel as if devs now a days pick up bad habits from other developers like for example, the ultimate edition of hot wheels sounds like something Ubisoft would do. Make you spend an absurd amount of money for a few pieces of insignificant DLC in a bundle that is labeled "ultimate edition" and then hold back the important content for other more expensive editions. Surprisingly, this actually works and it's a form of trickery. Ubisoft made me pay $120 for both the division 2 game and the ultimate warlords of New York edition, thinking that the game was bundled in with the Ultimate edition. I know that it sounds like a crazy conspiracy theory but I would do it if it made me a little more cash at the end of the day.
I agree to all this! What I would like to see is: I would like an option where you can’t do shortcuts, like a sorta invisible barrier option where you have to race the track fully The game hasn’t been fun for me online because people are just using shortcuts to win when I just want to race the track fully
I do like to use the weaker cars, but it is frustrating cause its a much harder game if you use those. And I agree its ridiculous the amount of grind they want you to do. I opened over 1000 blind boxes to get it all. And no I didnt grind for them.
Even tho I'm enjoying this game a very lot, it would be cool to have more environments where to put the tracks, and also have more different game modes, still with that, and with the more issues it has, I'm having fun with it, let's see how unleashed 2 comes PD: this has nothing to do, but, I don't know, I want to comment it, I always found funny that the place where you build your own tracks, is called "basement" when that's quite a mansion XD
It does suck not being able to use what vehicle you want because people only use the fastest cars. We do need different classes an tracks corresponding to those classes. This game has the potential to be the best if they are willing to put the work in
Same Cars Every Day Hotwheels has over 800 cars 11,000 varations..We are missing 10,937 cars..Love the game but the REPETITIVE DROP RATE OF CARS IS PATHETIC.✌🏾
I have to say that if you want to play the Batman expansion or add more stunts to you're track or even get some really cool Hotwheel cars then you have to pay actual money 💰 to play in those areas vs using the game's money or playing for free.
The timed racing seasons are an issue indeed. Hopefully they make that content available for download later but I'm not counting on it. The rubberbanding can be very ridiculous most of the time, unless you play on easy. So as much as I'm enjoying my time with this game, I share most of your concerns, Alex.
Ikr i remember the first trailer and thinking to myself " oh yeah a great arcade racer, only to be plagued with dlc and i haven't played it since last thanksgiving

I may love this game, but it is NOT worth $50. With the content you get in the base game, not the ultimate edition, I'd say its worth $15 at most. I only bought this game when it went on sale and I gave a few keys to my friends that I got dirt cheap. I don't want them paying $50 for a game that expects you to throw more money at it like an ugly stripper that just gave up on life. On the subject of everything else, I knew there was something that felt off about the difficulty balancing between settings, and you just confirmed it. The AI rubber-bands like madmen between difficulties. Easy makes them brain-dead, Medium is the intended difficulty, Hard makes them obnoxious, and Extreme is like playing a casual game of Minecraft...WHILE BEING SET ON F***ING FIRE!! This kind of difficulty balancing is unacceptable in an arcade-style racing game, especially a licensed Hot Wheels game. And the aggressive post-purchase monetization...yeah, it speaks for itself. Absolutely pathetic. If it were up to me, all this content would've been added in as free updates to the game, rather than them being paid DLC. At least the main campaign expansions make sense from a monetization point of view. Those can be genuinely considered DLC with actual substance. But the cars, the track modules, racing passes, and basement customization? Nah, fam. Those should've been free updates to any past, present, and future Hot Wheels Unleashed owners. At least THEN, the $50 price tag MIGHT be justified. Oh, and here's a bit of a criticism of my own: The game's audio mixing and lack of options SUCK. The sound design is on point with cars sounding appropriate to their real life counterparts and tires screeching across the tracks as you drift through curves, but it is LOUD AS HELL! And there's no option to turn down the Sound Effect volume in the options menu. You just get Music Volume and Master Volume. THAT'S IT. What's the point of the Master Volume slider?! I can't help but get the feeling that it was meant to be SFX Volume, but got programmed differently for reasons, I don't know. Which DOUBLY sucks too, because I LOVE this game's soundtrack. It's full of that high-octane, rubber-burning energy that perfectly encapsulates the spirit of the Hot Wheels brand. TOO BAD I CAN'T HEAR IT OVER THE SOUNDS OF MOTORS REVVING AND TIRES SCREECHING!!

Milestone won't fix these issues. Like one day you will wake up and all the vehicle stats are suddenly legit? Not gonna happen. I spent $50 on the game and found I felt jerked around and irritated by almost every design decision Milestone made. It's like the game was designed by hostile AI.

Milestone won't fix these issues. Like one day you will wake up and all the vehicle stats are suddenly legit? Not gonna happen. I spent $50 on the game and found I felt jerked around and irritated by almost every design decision Milestone made. It's like the game was designed by hostile AI.
