I loved how Mike knew it was over as soon as he dropped him. Then he tried to help him up as falling. Botha stood toe to toe with "The Man" and took it and gave back!Tyson couldn't but help the man out of respect for ones opponent, even in their defeat. He is a Master of his Art.
Even with lost passion, mediocre training and rust Tyson shows he has the natural ability to deliver a classic one two to a guy that had a great chin and put him down hard. Imagine if Tyson didn't struggle with all those demons inside him and stayed with Kevin Rooney!
@King Solomon I think he met his prime as a boxer but not as a fighter. A fighter combats with mental strength and faces adversity which Tyson didn't need when he was coming up. Although I doubt if he ever had it in him.
@King Solomon I agree. So many people talk about “prime Tyson” being from like 85/86 to 88. That’s only like 19 to to 22 years old. Athletes hit their prime probably when they’re like 25-28 years old. Mike was in prison during all of his prime years.
@@TT-jc2mb to me, I don't think Tyson has ever shown it, because he never met a fighter close to his level as a boxer AND as an athlete combined. Ruddock was a powerful man but had very limited skills in terms of defense. He was always exposed to the counter punch and that gave Tyson a psychological edge. More important, Tyson had the physical ability to take Ruddock's punches. The fact that Ruddock could take Tyson's punches made it look like a tough competitive fight, but when you only win 3-5 rounds out of 19, that's not competitive in my definition. The closest he showed fire of combativity and yet against less skilled opponent (athletically) was against Tillis when he brawled. Don't get me wrong, when Ruddock Staggered Tyson in the 6tg round of their 1st fight it takes mental strength but not the kind of mental strength to come back from adversity like Holy field did against Bowe or Frazier and Ali back and forth.
Yeah, they said the same thing about George Foreman, how his reflexes were shot, and all he still has is that telephone pole left jab, and 4 punches later, 1, 2, 3, 4, and Moorer woke up wondering wtf hit him........
This is one of my top five Tyson fights that I love to watch every single time..... That dude was so cocky and he ended up getting knocked the fuck out
Announcers.....A lot of them are legally blind, and most of the rest dropped out of school in 1st grade. The only announcers worth a shit were Don Dunphy, and the ex-boxers and former trainers, like Gil Clancy, Ken Norton, George Foreman, Ray Leonard, etc.. Ho Wad Cosell wasn't worth anything. Diarrhea of the mouth, with no toilet paper......
Respect to Botha. He danced with Tyson there for al bit and kept him surprised. Love how Tyson runs to his aid at the end, shows true sportsmanship and respect for his opponent. Nice fight 👍🏽
In this anyway I see professionalism & decent sportsmanship. Many people may disagree but he has a complicated personality & is not the cold "killer" some may regard him as
That was well set up. Botha had been letting Tyson get close and would hold him so he could and take strategic shots the whole fight. Tyson knew he'd let him in close and timed that right perfectly. Beautiful!
Mike tyson era o melhor dos pesados nao tem pra ninguem! E sua marca sua historia ninguem apaga! Sem contar que foi o campeão da categoria mais jovem ate hj!
Old Franz was a bad man he always came to fight you could see the admiration and respect Mike Tyson had for him I don't think neither man was in their prime at this fight but they both want for it this was a explosion great fight it shows you the great power that Mike Tyson had cuz Franz was a tough mutha
By late 90's Tyson didn't have the bob n weave movement stamina that he did in his early-mid 20's but proved here he still had most of his power,,,one shot n it's all over..
Now not lewis who lost to macall no way like he said tyson was out of his prime by then he even was moving slow like when the lewis fight you could tell he didn't have the stamina he looked tierd in round 3
Botha got tired standing in front of Mike with his hands down. He was hurt from Tyson's straight left. Then Mike caught up to him & gaffled his ass with a short right.
Jean-Roger Orsini I see you are a hater. Mike was not just fighting Botha that night he was fighting himself as well as the world in that ring on that night. He couldn’t afford a decision and Botha knew that. Maybe you should take the hate out of you retort and recognize what happened that night or you can just ask Mr Botha?
Yeah the build up to that knockout was fantastic, those announcers were talking so much crap, then wham! , I even think he was loosing? Anyways wow that was fun to watch.
Everyone saw on that knock out punch he gave his opponent and mike still had a heart to come back and to picking them up. what a heart of misunderstood champ. Way to go champ of our generation always a champ no matter what. 🤓
If it wasn’t for Don King Mike Tyson wouldn’t have hit rock bottom when he did. IMO DK paid someone or some people to set up Mike Tyson and destroy his life and career. Nobody could stop Mike Tyson and DK knew it and it was starting to destroy DK’s promoting career.
Iron Mike proved he was the best boxer ever in his prime. 1999 should have been his career end. His management should have let him retire after this fight. The Lennox Lewis fight after was bs. In Mike Tysons prime Lennox would have been made to look weak.

Very true
3:15 Botha was I think not well aware of how dangerous it could be to annoy Tyson until he saw the stars in the sky.
MIKE BEAT THE APPARTHEID MAN
Tyson sucked this fight he just stopped caring at a certain point and was just in it for the money

I've got that 👕, had to do for my birthday brother.
Now THAT right THERE was satisfying. 🥊🥊🥊👊😆😎 Then, after Tyson knocked Botha out, he helped him up... that was so COOL, man.
Did Mike try to catch him before he fell again lol Mike had a killer on/off switch
Tyson is Indigenously a very nice person.
Met him after he ran his car into the tree In Catskill NY.
He looked genuinely concerned for Botha, and rightfully so, he ran right into that punch.

In 99 Mike struggled with this dude. In 89 Mike would of killed this dude with in 2 rounds. Mike was done in 99 with the sport and it showed.

He still whooped alot of ass regardless before and after.
