Damn she really did say, "Oh my god" a lot. I got to meet Betty in Parramatta 5 years ago. It was definitely worth getting up with the chickens to make the trip from Melbourne and back the same day. I was just fortunate to be in Australia at the same time. I liked her because she was American like me. I hope she and the other castmates who have since gone to the great beyond are hamming it up day and night. ❤
I love Judy Bryant. One of the iconic characters of Prisoner, along with Doreen, Bea, Lizzie and Mrs Jackson/Morris. When they, other than Mrs J/M left the show was never quite the same. Whilst similar replacement characters were brought in the show never managed to reach those early highs again.
Her stint as top dog was very underrated. And think she did a great job of filling in before Myra got settled in. She was better as Bea's conscience than Myra's best friend tho.
I agree Brandon. A good strong character with plenty of big storylines for her first couple of hundred episodes. After Jock Stuart's demise she became too bland and weak.
Agree with you both! Watching how Judy behaved when she arrived at Wentworth in 1980 and how she departed in 1985, it’s like 2 different people. Judy was originally tough, strong and took no crap from anyone… she even stood up to Smith when she had to. The Halfway House bore fest turned Judy into a hysterical, over-reacting over-emotional mess who seemed to burst into endless ‘oh my gawds’ and screeches every 5 minutes when she wasn’t trying to be funny with one-liners and bad accents. The writers didn’t know what to do with Bryant, and Betty Bobbitt didn’t seem to know how to play her either. Had Judy left around 1982-83, she’d have left much more of a stronger character than staying another few years imho
Funniest unintentional moment with Judy Bryant…. There’s a scene with Judy doing some stretch exercises in her cell, talking to Myra before lights out. She bends down to touch her toes and then really lets one rip! Poor Myra Desmond, as if she hadn’t suffered enough 💨 💨
1 of the best loved favourites of the entire Prisoner series... the late great Betty Bobbit as Judy Bryant.

Those bells though… Do still love a bit of the 1st son in law of hers too. 😋
She was good upon arrival, quite tough. Then the writers wrecked her character somewhat and made her a bit of a doormat over the next 5 years.

@@Redsleather Totally agree. Her exit with smelly Shelly was so naff.
Correction... The late great Betty Bobbitt... with 2 T's.
