    I have a nice fabric shoe bag that I didn’t want to cut. I took elastic and pinned on the bag and ran it across the front with a pin in the middle to keep the elastic in place. That held my gift wrap. I put tags, ribbon and tissue paper in the upper pockets. Then clipped tags as labels with the contents on the pockets. It worked like a charm and now if I want to repurpose later I can reuse with no damage. Thanks for the inspiration as I have not utilized it prior to your video.

    Love the idea with the toilet roll or paper towel roll centres - I have a ton of these, and a ton of rolls of paper. I'm a wheelchair user, so the main idea with the over the door shoe holder is not so practical for me, but a way of keeping individual rolls rolled that does not involve rubber bands is awesome!

      If you can have someone help you, you can put in some cup holders on the door to hand the door shoe holder lower! I did this for a client and they loved it!

      @@TheCraftyOrganizer thank you! That is a great suggestion. It also struck me sometime after I posted my original comment, that if I use the lowest pockets I can reach as the base for the rolls, I can feed them in and out via the lowest slits, in the pockets directly above the base row. This would be more awkward than feeding them in from the top down, but still doable I believe. Meanwhile all my paper rolls have indeed been tamed by toilet roll tubes 😀

    I use a clear garment bag that zippers open on the side. Then I hang it in my closet. I don’t have to Take it down to access a wrapping paper roll or a bag since it opens on the side! And it takes up minimal space in the closet! Much better than taking up the back of a closet door with the shoe organizer. I need that space for shoes.

    In the past, I used one to organize all my combs, hairbrushes, curling irons, etc. But when I cut my nearly waist-long hair off, I stupidly got rid of almost every one of those, so the shoe pocket storage was redundant and I got rid of it, too. I said "stupidly" because now, ten or so years later, I've decided to grow my hair out again (just shoulder length), and I can't find my favorite rollers ANYWHERE! Guess I over purged on that one! Anyway, the point I meant to make is that the shoe storage pockets are good for lots of things. Thanks for sharing what you did with yours!

    This looks great! Altho, if have to downsize my wrapping paper to use it. I really need to anyway. I have a large box with gift bags standing up by sizes. With bows and ribbon at one end of the box. And a tall box that holds my wrapping paper rolls. I love the toilet paper roll idea to keep the rolled wrapping paper from unraveling! I know, I'm in need of help. 🙄 Thank you for being here! 😊❤️

    Clever. With my leftover paper that is too small to wind around the tube (in the interest of not having mostly empty tubes cluttering up), I generally fold the paper, and put it into file folders, sorted by holiday, birthday, etc. Since some wrapping paper is sold flat-folded anyway, I don't see the creases as a big negative.

  • @debbien.3315
    @debbien.3315 5 лет назад +2

    Look nice. How I wrap up individual tubes of paper is to cut a small scrap of paper , roll it around the tube, and tape it. It keeps it rolled very tight and it doesn't damage the paper like plastics and it looks better than the TP tube.

    Hey I have a recommendation for your ribbons and bows.... You could always put them where your tape and scissors are... And put your tape and scissors into a clear plastic pencil pouch and hand it from one of the hooks that goes over the door and you could also store a hole punch or rubber bands in a clear vinyl fronted pencil pouch

    I have never seen any of your videos until tonight and this shoe bag/holiday wrapping storage unit is very awesome. You look super with your hair down and I love your voice you remind me of a very cool woman at my church. From time to time she is on HGTV with her own staging company for selling homes. Anyway, I am getting ready to move out of my condo where I have great closet space to a smaller dwelling with not a lot of closet space at all so I may have to use your idea on the back of my bedroom door. I like the gray and love the pockets. For my birthday last year my girlfriend bought me from Costco a metal rack that is 3 tier with 8 nesting fabric boxes of various sizes but, on the sides of the metal tier are built in pockets that are clear for other items and I do lots of sewing and various crafts so there are 3 different types of crafts being stored in the boxes and once I get to my new dwelling I want to put all my ribbons into the side clear pockets. The organizer is also gray. I love your storage area its very nice and neat and I love anything that is blue. Thanks for a super ID. My mom has a shoe rack on the back of her bathroom door with about 15 slots for shoes and the pockets are clear but, she keeps her perfume in the pockets and hair brushes, combs, etc because she doesn't have a medicine cabinet in her bathroom. Thanks again, Rebekah in Alexandria, VA

    I really like the heavier material for this project and it looks so nice. I use a red&green holiday wrap canister, so that would be covered.
    Suggestion: When you put your scissors in the top compartment, I can visualize the scissors eventually stabbing a hole through whatever the material the organizer is made of. I'd spread some vaseline over the scissors tips, close the scissors, and coat greased tip with hot glue, front, back, sides, like a sheath to protect the pocket you're putting the scissors in.

    At some point, I decided that I would only give small to midsize gifts, so I used a serrated steak knife to cut the taller rolls in two. Either of equal size or one small, the other larger. These are kept in a shallow dresser drawer with numerous packages of bright tissue paper. If I plan on a larger gift size, I buy wrapping paper specifically for that. I only use straw type ribbon, plus white and silver and gold curling ribbon, most of the year, and have several zip bags of mostly gold and silver adhesive bows.

    I did this with a shoe organizer from Five Below - it works great - I just hung a command hook on the wall to hang it up. What I DO wish is that it had those see-through pockets so I can see what I put in the extra pockets (the ones at Five Below are solid material). It's almost worth tossing the one I have and getting the Target version just for this.

    Thanks for the ideas. I have my stabilizers and interfacing in one currently and hadn’t thought of cutting one of the units for the longer stuff to fit. I would suggest also using those easy snaps (like for the homemade diapers) to put a grosgrain ribbon across the small area to hold the tops of the shorter rolls from falling over. I previously had done that on a door to keep my hanging scarves from flying out when the door opens and closes.

    I take the extra and make my own bow to match the paper.
    Fold paper in half so your strip is at least 6" long. Cut 1/2" strips almost to the middle fold. Open it up and 'curl' the paper as you would curling ribbon by pulling the blade of your scissors along the inside of the paper strip. Accordian pleat along the fold to bunch it up. Secure the center. Voila! A matching bow.

    Really Love this idea! But will not work in my house. But love the over the door ideas! Right now I have towels on bathroom. And Pantry rack for diapers and pull ups over basement door at the bottom of the stairs that lead up to kids room! Right now, which I have so much more than you lol, but mostly all Christmas paper is in my open closet in the back behind my hanging clothes, no door to that closet. But it one of my online purchases in came in a skinny long box(meaning its size of 2 rolls but half the length of my closet) and another smaller version of that to hold all the on sale Christmas wrapping paper I have. (It is also tall enough that they don't lean! I hate when they do that too) We also like using different designs for kids when they are from different people, mostly from mommy & daddy, santa, reindeer etc. So it seems more real that they wrapped it themselves!

    I put my scraps inside the roll. However, I never thought of the toilet/paper towel core to use to hold everything. Using those, I would be able "clip" the shorter pieces together instead of having them flop around on the outside of the roll.

  • @RoxyAnny..8b
    @RoxyAnny..8b 5 лет назад +1

    My freebie solution is kinda sorta similar. I took a long narrow cardboard box and attached it to a wall inside a closet and I stand up the rolls of paper in it. Shorter boxes could be glued together side by side to get more length. If the box has to be placed higher up on the wall, then the height of the box must be an inch or 2 shorter than the distance of the top of the paper rolls to the ceiling (for me, a shelf) with the roll standing upright in the box. This is so the roll will clear the top of the box before it hits the ceiling when lifting it up to take it out. In my case, the height of the box had to be so short that the rolls flopped forward, at risk of falling out. To remedy this, I ran a string horizontally, tied to a nail at each end, just high enough above the box to keep the rolls upright behind it. They all still lean forward a bit because the string has to be loose enough to provide some wiggle room to remove the rolls and clear the box front. A length of elastic would likely work better but I had none on hand. I didn’t do anything to enhance appearance because it’s out of sight so it was a quick little project.

    I do keep my useable scraps! Usually, I wrap them around the outside of the roll, and I wrap a scrap of kraft paper around the outside of them and take it together with masking tape. All the rolls (which I never keep more than a few, I generally like to wrap rustic) I usually keep just on the inside of the brackets in the closet. I'm thinking of setting up a wrapping station though, putting together dowels with hooks to hang them inside of a shelf or on a pegboard maybe?

    This is an awesome idea! I am actually lucky to have an original gift wrap hanger, I got years ago when my kids sold wrapping paper through school. Although during the year I store my wrapping paper in the box from my 4 tier wire shelf and an guitar box. I found leaving the paper out in the hanger, some of the paper would discolor. When Christmas comes along I load up the hanger with the paper I want to use that year, makes for easy clean up. I like to wrap in smaller batches, instead of being overwhelmed at the end with stacks of gifts. Also, just as a tip, I like to buy the wide rolls in solid colors at the Christmas season , so I can use them for Birthday gifts and such. I seem to have trouble finding wide birthday gift wrap for large gifts. ( I store the scraps rolled up inside the roll )

    FOR WRAPPING PAPER i LOOSEN UP THE PAPER, THEN TIGHTEN IT UP again and store it inside the roll, it saves the edges from getting torn and wrinkled, and I keep scraps of substantial size only inside the roll, too

    For scraps I keep the medium to large pieces just inside the roll of wrapping paper. I use a toilet paper base around the middle or a large rubber band to keep the roll from unwinding.

    I use empty paper towel rolls and roll the rolls tight enough to fit in the roll then let them expand to the size of the roll. I use two paper towel tubes for each roll of contact paper. One roll a quarter of the way from the top and the other a quarter of the way from the bottom. This way it keeps a tight roll with no tape on any rolls. You can cover the empty paper towel rolls with a pretty contact paper.

    I don't have much wrapping paper so I use a small bin (trash can) for my few rolls. However, I once worked out I could get free wallpaper samples so now I have loads of papers ack. I might try this in my next craft room if I collect any more.

    Love this...I do put my odd lengths in the other tube. Maybe the extra roll could fit into the wider tube. I love wrapping paper and keep telling myself I’m going to get ‘fancy’ with my gift wrapping...so what do I usually end up doing??? Gift bags and tissue paper. 🤷‍♀️ Then I have cute gift bags to store...

    I leave my extra small papers on their own but I always have a mess. I think that looks very neat, and you can use it for your scissors and ribbon is awesome. great hack

    when I get something on a roll, I always loosen it a bit to slide the cardboard tube out then tighten up the roll of paper, or whatever so it's slightly smaller than the tube then I drop the paper into the tube, and let it unspool so it's tight in there this protects the ends of the paper from tearing or fraying

    I put my leftovers inside the tube. I just bought a 24-pocket shoe organizer yesterday from Target very similar to that one, but no larger pockets on the bottom. I think I am going to use it for punches. I have a wrapping paper storage tote thingy, but I like checking in with you anyway. 😃

    I would've kept the larger pockets in the bottom for ribbons and bows. Use the same size shoe holders for holding the larger rolls of paper. It might be possible to have one column for shorter rolls by not cutting through the bottom in some sections.
    Start by getting all of your wrapping items together first to visualize where you want them to be contained.
