I also don't like how you only ever need three Pikmin types per area. I always liked having to strategize how much Pikmin of each type you think you will need at the beginning of the day. But un Pikmin 4, all you ever really need is 33 of each of the 3 Pikmin types recommended to you because there no point in bringing any other Pikmin type. Also Ice Pikmin are recommended in all areas except for the Giant's Hearth and they're extremely broken.
in my opinion pikmen 3 has the best graphics it doesn't look old but it also isn't to vibrant for the eyes its sad it was left on the wii for a long time.
All the bosses in Pikmin 4 are super easy, but then suddenly there's that one Empress Bulblax fight with is incredibly unforgiving if you don't just cheese it.
i love the pikmin 4 character creator but i really hope it stays in pikmin 4 if they're just going to keep us playing as silent nobodies i just think it's more fun to play as an actual character with history in the world, rather than some silent prodigy who could've literally not existed the day prior from how little they seem to have affected anything i like getting to read little log entries showing how they react to the day's events having been right there in the moment learning more about how the character is handling being on pnf 404, how they feel about things like their family, or their job, or their home checking in on the koppaites every day before heading out for fun interactions between the 3 captains i even like the interactions between the rescue corps members, just not the part of them where the one we play as apparently ceases to exist
I like the character creator, but my biggest gripe is the lack of color choices. Like seriously, was it too much for us to get colors based on each of the the pikmin types at least?
To be fair, Alph, Brittany, and Charlie were just Olimar, Louie, and the President, perhaps carried over from Pikmin 3's very early development before they decided to make new characters instead.
Look, I really love Pikmin 4. I waited for 10 years and it did not dissapoint me. There is just so much content. BUT I still prefer 3 (Deluxe) for almost the same reasons you mentioned. They did so much stuff right with 4 but also managed to do so much wrong or not better than in 3.
Man it’s so satisfying to see someone voicing my disappointments with 4 while it seems like the rest of the Internet loved it. My wife and I got heavily into 3 Deluxe, and were subsequently excited for 4. While it was fun, overall we were each (moreso me I guess) disappointed that 4 felt like it was missing something.. the characters and time constraints are a huge part of the problem, as you point out. Anyway… I don’t hate 4 but it’s a big step down imo, and I appreciate your thoughtful analysis of the reasons why.
4 honestly dissappointed me… I’d rather them make pikmin 3 longer and have more to collect than making another game like 4. I loved how pikmin 3 was played so much and i loved the bosses and how unique music is in the entire franchise! 4 kind of felt like it was missing so much..
OH MY GOSH I WAS CRAVING A VIDEO LIKE THIS. I didn’t find any and I thought I was the only one with these concerns, but apparently I’m not, nice to hear. I was thinking: “Really? Does everybody like the new onion?” Or “Well, apparently I’m the only one who prefers a bit more of an adventure and linear story, nobody has been complaining.”. I swear I have the SAME EXACT nitpicks for this game: the music, the world (which I also think 3 was better because of things like how Pikmin brought grapes one by one, or like how there were some more creative fruit placements which really helped build a more alive world, like that one hanging fruit [I don’t remember the section of the game]), even UI. Thank God I’m not the only one thinking this. Overall I really enjoyed Pikmin 4 (still playing) but because it’s a Pikmin game and I love Pikmin games in general. Sorry for the long comment lol
Don't get me started. The whole timline is a mess and it sucks that Nintendo sacrifices continuity over acessability for new players. In my mind, Olimar crashed so many times that he suffers from amnesia and mixes up the events😂
pikmin 4 takes place in a different timeline to the other 3 games. I imagine it being an alternate version of pikmin 1, where olimar met moss and ended up running out of life support.
The thing i love most about 3 is the mission mode, they are quite difficult and require a lot of multitasking, especially if you have access to 3 captains. I get 4 has the dandori challenges, but they just aren't the same. They are so much easier and don't have much multitasking (also its just not as satisfying getting the score due to all these low numbers). Also bingo battle > dandori battle
While I really like Pikmin 4 (It’s behind 2 which is my personal favorite), I definitely feel the post Olimar half of the game kind of feels a little over bloated in the story department. We didn’t need the knock off Koppaites or the Oatchi sick plot imo they kind of feel like an unnecessary way to go back to the planet, when the easy solution was just that there were more castaways stuck on the planet and they had to go back. Louie is easily something I’m the most mixed with on the one hand, this is the best look at his character thanks to his treasure logs and most of his journal entires. On the other hand.. I really hate how they just flat out made him the antagonist in this game, with no ambiguity behind his actions. The fun of Louie’s character is that, honestly it’s more interesting that he’s just a doofus who wanders into trouble more often than not and whenever something about him points to being evil, it’s not exactly black and white. The Titan Dweevil thing is just a BS sales pitch by the ship and the big bug is more than likely using Louie as a living battery for its actions, and the Koppaites are just as much to blame for him stealing their food due to them literally leaving them in front of the ships controls while he was unconscious despite knowing he’d wake up.
I wouldnt say never, there is that part in the game where Louie steals your juice. I thought it was an interesting curveball. But otherwise yeah there's enough juice to have way more than enough time to finish collecting things
I think for Pikmin 5, it should be a hybrid of time based and infinite approach. You play the first part with a set in stone 30 day limit and after finding all the oxygen supplier part, the 2nd part can be freely explored. Or maybe there is two campaigns in the same game but take place in the same world, one with a time limit and one without.
@@JusttAlf Nope, It's no different for me, but at the same time, I was already very familiar with Pikmin 3 before the deluxe version came out. I still shouldn't be having a full screen of juice though.
Pikmin 4 is my favorite one from the series but I agree with the criticisms about the character creation, specially when most of the NPCs are clearly designed with the same templates, making them and the player character generic and uninteresting. Again, just my opinion~
Interesting. I've watched a few pikmin videos lately and there seems to be a lot of praise towards 3 on youtube. I thought 3 was my least favorite because I didn't like managing 3 captains and the time limit felt fake since getting fruit was so easy. I should give it another shot though.
I agree with most of the NitPiks(tm), though there are some that I don’t (4’s Onion design is superior, fight me). The game is held by a lot of odd choices: some inconsequential, some of grave significance. Why did they not just use the 3 trio instead of knockoffs? Why did they set the 3 Pikmin limit? Why did they bring the Puffstool back only to remove what made it so iconic? Why do all the characters look ugly? Why did they retcon the entire original trilogy when they could have very easily had the exact same plot without doing so (just make Olimar go on another spacecation with his newly repurchased ship, have the navigation mysteriously bug out and send him back to PNF-404, and boom, events can proceed identically to how they did in 4, without the retcon)? Why can’t I downgrade Oatchi’s abilities once I realize he’s too OP (he’s much better balanced in the early game, imo. I personally never upgraded him beyond level 2 on anything, and I felt it was fair). For some reason, I still think of 4 as my favorite, despite me having far more criticisms of it than I do of 3. I think I just prefer the 2-style more than the 1 style. But that’s ultimately just personal preference. I still really wonder who made these choices and why. Many of them are just… nonsensical.
As someone that has 3 as my least favorite its always interesting to see the points of someone that does have it as a favorite to see what things they see that i probably dont. Both of your videos were great and i loved hearing your thoughts Im kind of glad i think all 4 are 10/10 games as i dont have to stress over the nitpiks as much 😅
@@MusicJunkie37 I’d love to but I really only talked about it a little bit and there wasn’t a specific time in which I did It’s just sort of sprinkled throughout. Sorry.
I think Pikmin 4's last 3 areas have pretty memorable music, especially Hero's Hideaway. Why the first 3 just don't really confuses me. What makes me more disappointed is the mostly lack of cave music. It was all so creative and bizarre in 2, but there's almost none of it period in 4.
One big nitpick is that Pikmin 4 looks too clean, even the deep dark caves. One big examples are the creatures, in the last three games they felt like predators, in 4 they look like enemies. Mario enemies to be more clear.
1000% share your “NitPiks” and they aren’t unreasonable. Pikman 3 is just better and 4 leave so much to be desired after playing 3. The graphics for 3 on wiiu actually hold up really well and aesthetically look great for environments, couple that with the different music on each level and simple but effective story and that game is actually quite fun and memorable. Perhaps pikmin 4 was left too long in the game making oven?? Often feels like it, adding so many different features but didnt exactly step up from 3. The character creator is ok i guess but instantly makes it bland imo… I was disappointed to finish pikmin 4 due to the reasons you mention.😢
Honestly I don't like the character design of 4 They look a little too similar to the switch sports characters for my taste. They don't bother me and look good during gameplay But they lack the same charm as before.
i personally dislike pikmin 4’s lack of distinct color scheme, and would go as far as to say it’s the worst looking game in the series because of how bland the visual presentation is
Tbh Pikmin 3’s bosses felt like bosses 1 2 and 4 just felt like bulky enemies with themes

Pikmin 4 is more toylike while 3 is more realistic. i wish they could've kept 3's looks, made it look more alive

Pikmins music is important to the game, I'd say it's more iconic then the story for some people.
my ultra-spicy take: pikmin 1 and 2 had the superior onion designs.
Still used in bloom
Ah the space ship yea
