That opening solo was amazing, I don’t care what anyone says. That kid had a vision and he executed it.
def not amazing, its quite literally a classical solo in a jazz setting. He def could've done better with a bari sax instead of bass clarinet
That solo was great.... for a concert setting....
Agreed
Kinda pissed me off that they didn't start with the bari sax
bass clarinet to baritone sax what!! Insanely awesome~~!
Grooving hard! great intro, great solos, insane alto, and very nice work overall. Impressive.
The solo felt more like a concert band solo, it didn't feel like jazz at all, and it sounded to sweet to be "Moanin'"
Perfect Big Band Jazz, and I even love the excellent solos!

Interesting choice the bass clarinet. The vibe was a lot different then the original song. But it’s still great.
Fantastic! This is what I'm talking about!
Good job guys!
The Bari player goes to Julliard now.
i am in jazz house kids and this is my favorite song ever double win :D
The guy on bari and bass clarinet reminds me of Eric Dolphy.
I thought I was the only one!
Why are they playing the easier version? They are well capable of playing the harder version!
Love it, nice try, great future in this cats. Only a little thing in 6:33 but is just music experience.
double bassist had a tough time.well done to him
jazz house kids is amazin
Featuring Eric Dolphy on baritone sax haha
very nicE music love it
I think it should be on bari... bass clairs are great instruments but a bari can be jazzier, bigger, and closer to its original recording lol
the bass still sounded nice thoe..
GRAND - TREMENDOUS
I heard people say, "Say What". How Dare they.
You guys forgot about the "uH!" At 0:17 seconds.
Wait lol never mind I heard it
This song is meant for a baritone sax, not a bass clarinet
everyone complaining about the solo at the beginning doesnt know shit
That intro sound to me like "turkey man" by Joe Satriani
I think he based that bit off of Donna Lee lol
Thats freakin' Tuba! :)
well that's one interpretation...
nice
bass clarinet part could be way jazzier than that 0:00 - 1:49! to classical in my opinion.
I agree
Usually every time there’s a soloist on moanin, the beginning solo sounds like shit
im doin that in my jazz band. i play trumpet 1
68/100
did any one hear the bari/bass clarinet player quote Donna Lee in his solo
as awesome as that was i was kinda upset that the intro solo wasnt a bari
I feel like he high trombone needs to make his notes more jazzy...
bari is the only way to do moanin.... no bass clarinets... not jazzy enough. sorry. its a bari part for a reason
At 5:56, it sounds like Donna Lee, haha
Why didn’t you just play the bari. That way you wouldn’t have to transpose the music
Poor guitar player, he seems so bored
Drummers' the best
This is not it. This song has to have the bari solo at the start
Moanin without a piano solo is just not moanin to me. Maybe I'm the ignorant one here, but big band jazz solos, while technically insanely difficult (and way out of my league), just aren't enjoyable to listen to for me. Amazing job though!
I think you might be thinking of art blakey's composition of the same name. this tune, while not originally written for big band, is probably best known as a big band chart and is all about collective improvisation between the horns.
followup: just realised I just replied to a 9 year old comment
am very smort
The opening solo was long and boring, it just sounds out of place in a jazz setting
Its just not funky enough. Got to come harder...not felling.
Good performance... Bad arrangement.
What the hell is this?!?! Since when bass clarinets even in jazz bands. Moanin shouldn't be played without a bari in addition to this is to easy to play. You need the cooler version that's only bari instead of all the saxes
Hunter Dean Clarinets are pretty common for jazz really. You don't see them much in jazz bands because they don't cut through as much as saxophones, but you can still use them for soloist purposes. Bennie Goodman us an example of a big band that uses clarinet. Also, Eric Dolphy played bass clarinet
