    If that ball is doing 18,500mph wouldn't it have a massive amount of kinetic energy? (In addition to the potential energy due to gravity). Edit: come to think of it, since the ball is also falling, doesn't that mean the potential energy due to gravity has already been converted to and kinetic energy?

    • @Anonymous-mm8ej
      @Anonymous-mm8ej 6 лет назад

      lol , your edit is conservation of energy. (And we all know that 😑😒)

    • @theeric800
      @theeric800 3 месяца назад

      Correct, if you theoretically had an immovable object in space at a complete standstill and the ball ran into it, that would create utter destruction.

    Drop me that ball when you reach my coordinates

    • @user2C47
      @user2C47 6 лет назад +1

      It would do 1 of the following
      1. Stay with the space station because of it's gravity and the ball's almost nonexistent relative velocity.
      2. Become a dangerous piece of orbital space junk.
      3. (If thrown hard enough retrograde) become suborbital and burn up in the atmosphere.

      @MariaMartinez-researcher 6 лет назад +3

      Google "ISS experiment list." You'll get a view of the many, very complicated and tongue-twisting things those scientists and engineers research for days and months up there. A 2:49 min. basic physics demonstration is for kids; research is for grown ups. Starting here:

    At 1:15, he should not say "create potential energy". He is converting or transferring his work (force he applies times distance) into elastic potential energy. The law of Conservation of Energy states that energy can not be created or destroyed, only transferred between objects or transformed from different types of energy.

      i think it was here on minute: 1:42 no?

    • @bryansmith6327
      @bryansmith6327 3 года назад +1

      @@valentinaalvarez5705 He says it correctly at 1:42. He should have NEVER used the word 'create' when talking about energy.

    • @annabetts1539
      @annabetts1539 2 года назад

      @@bryansmith6327 While that is true, I will argue that sometimes simpler language can make a topic more accessible to others. Transferred and transformed can be strange to some people, especially if it's not clear to them where the original energy is stored. As teachers, we sometimes use language that isn't fully accurate, to help communicate a certain point. NEVER using the word create is a strong statement, what should be said is that you should ensure you also talk about the law of conservation.
