The MK11 krypt gameplay was honestly fantastic. It was like a mini adventure game, running through it for the first time was an easy fun hour-ish experience.
Any F’n day … everything in me really feels like this board game mode wasn’t the original idea but for whatever reason ( prob something dealing with WB ) it got swapped out and we got this. Regardless it’s prob the worst mode they have ever made. The new subzero skin after you beat it is cool but I can’t even drag myself to go through it

Invasions could have been enjoyable with some changes but it's just too much of a slog. Especially the seasonal towers where you have to beat them damn near fucking 40 times or something to get all the skins. That's outside of the normal Invasion which is a slog. I can appreciate that True Underdawg is a fan of MK but even the towers in MK11 only mattered when people didn't have the gear already. The towers got boring as fuck as well.

Movelists aren't everything, it's more about what game does with them. SF6 has similarly limited move variety, but compensates with really solid fundamental mechanics, which is where MK1 really struggles in comparison.
i mean people also like the atmosphere and lore as well. Thats one of the things i love most about mortal kombat. And honestly keeps me playing more than tekken and street fighter. the world just has this.. feel to it. and i love that "feel". Even if the gameplay doesnt match up to street fighter. Characters as well. Personally, i love mk characters more than both street fighter and tekken characters

As a more casual player, one of my biggest issues with mk is not having movesets carry over. Im not saying don't change moves up but the complete wipe they do every game is getting annoying. With tekken or SF I feel my progress growing with each instalment. Mk it feel like I'm back at square 1. Ignoring the other issues for this game, I think changing this will keep people more loyal to the franchise.

I would just say that TEKKEN 8 showed the FGC what a complete game on launch looks like. They also showed it's possible to regularly communicate with your fan base. Worst thing about invasion is there's no friggin map. After I was done playing the first time, I just forgot where was my last point of progress. And that was in season 1, after playing for THREE HOURS STRAIGHT. it bores me so much, having to fight virtual characters over and over for a drop for recolored skins. And when you want to come back to have no indication of where you left off. Coupled with acknowledgement that the path ahead is gonna be a damn chore. The also very bad problem mk1 has was my grip since day 1: characters being so bland they don't stand by themselves. Scorpion literally having 4 strings made me wanna kill myself, coupled with the lacking, meaningless balance updates. Kameos were an interesting yet risky concept to me but its very apparent now their only fonctionnality is restraining the completeness of each character. And btw when your character is trash but you still enjoy playing them you look forward to devs doing something (Scorpion suffer from the "all my attacks are high and half of them are useful" syndrome and i fuc**ng hate it. Since mk11 i'ts been normal to me that a majority characters have reliable options and diversity. Low attacks and overheads are completely absent from Scorpion. His change of personality with sub zero in this timeline is not emphasized enough and make no friggin difference to the average player, expect give them more confusion. Is this scorpion the real scorpion or is scorpion sub zero? Where is hanzo hasashi? And don't get me started about only the player 1 being able to decide of the map, everything here is so wrong to my eyes, and to remember i preordered the ultimate edition on ps5, which i now wanna sell with my tv because i switched to pc and have nothing left to do on console, this is baffling. I'm telling y'all, when peacemaker comes out, i ain't gonna try him. I'M BORED, BORED!!!!

When you pause, during the pause screen has a huge white space that was clearly supposed to have the map for whatever Mesa you're on. We're reaching a FOURTH Invasions season & STILL no freaking update to add maps! MK11 had maps in the Krypt, so how they went backwards shows me they stopped trying.

Konquest > Story Mode. Like when MKvsDC/MK9 came out, back then the story modes were cool and exciting. But now, they can't keep relying on it just by making the story longer. Aka, cutscenes taking 20-25 mins to play before a 2 min fight, repeat. Konquest could at least allow them to merge story with a more interesting campaign. With cool and fun shit to do.
MK fans will be dissappointed with that patch. no matter what NRS will be able to add to it in such a short time. it took them 3-4 years to release MK1. what do people expect them to achieve in 3-4 months?

I’m definitely someone in the camp of playing Invasions all the time despite hating it, the reason he doesn’t know anyone is because all of us are ashamed of it. Though I don’t think the season 4/Peacemaker delay was a reason for anything, hell I’m more afraid of season 4 not having any farming methods for character mastery.

I do understand what he means in regards to invasions. I absolutely HATE invasions but I still do it for the unlocks and all. In the current season, I completed the invasions mode and once I reached the rank I wanted and unlocked the rank rewards I wanted, I stopped playing. I will start playing again when the next season starts and trudge through the muck that is invasions then play ranked until I reach the rank I want. Hopefully the rewards for the ranks are better and, if so, I'll play as long as it takes to reach those ranks.
I like invasions but will admit its just because of leveling up characters and unlocking skins, which NRS keeps nerfing every method to speed through doing this so its almost like a huge middle finger.

We want a complete game, not an incomplete live service experience that a good game is piece meal to us. A lot more of transparency from the Devs would be nice, too.

I never thought about it till you mentioned that MK just redesigns constantly. Compare to tekken where I was a top player in the 3/tag days and I come back and play casually 5 DR and tag 2 and I'm competitive against good players. Because there are only slight changes to the system so I can pick up and get by with a character. I may not be optimal and I'll get murdered by new moves but I can pick up and play. Every MK game I have to learn from scratch and usually don't bother.
Could’ve done konquest. Or hear me out, bring back kart racing, chess and puzzle kombat. I would grind the hell out of those just for joins and other stuff.

Stuff that bother me among everything else, is how after all the updates the audio issues never been fixed audio cutting out mid game and even the frame issues where the game laggs so bad and frame drops mid game make me fight in slow motion. Also still leggy matches which compared first 2 seasons I hardly had lagg issues
To add more to your sf6 point, every character they release adds content to world tour mode. So not just a stage and a character but more content for the fun world tour mode

I saw this downfall coming months before release. The biggest mistake NRS made was sandwiching MK1 between SF6 and T8. I knew MK1 was gonna finally get exposed how mediocre MK really is. This might take several MK games to recover from. I’m predicting Tekken will king for at least 1 or 2 more installments while SF coming in 2nd possibly 1st if SF7 is amazing in every way.
Watching Kombat kasts through the years leading up to new games or characters they have always over emphasized “easy to use” mechanics or features. It’s obvious who they pander to and have no intention making a truly deep game worth fleshing out.
For me, one of the MANY reasons this game got old for me is I’m just not interested in learning to play majority of the main cast. Learning new characters was a lot of the fun but i couldn’t be bothered for some reason in this game. All the characters I want to play are stuck as stupid kameos. And the only dlc characters I’m interested in are the mk characters, enough with the guest characters or at least don’t make them half the dlc.
Advocating for little short term compulsions to draw people in, such as living towers or little superficial events is wild. They unironically need to rebalance most of the roster, and take heavy inspiration from Smoke(Video on my channel btw). I think hes one of the few characters that can take full advantage of the kameo system.

Giving every character 10 new moves and forcing them into some kind of identity would be a start. That way at least the gameplay would be interesting and every character wouldn't benefit from running the same kameos. And drastically increase the power of the characters
This guy really tried to blame it on the players. By the first month of MK1, I'd already figured out several characters and kameos and felt there was nothing left to explore with those characters. In contrast, at this point in Tekken, I haven't even figured out the full move list and how to use it on the one character I'm trying to play. Dude is...a special kind of shill.

I would just say that TEKKEN 8 showed the FGC what a complete game on launch looks like. They also showed it's possible to regularly communicate with your fan base. MK fans just woke to the realization that they were in an abusive relationship and walked away. I would say R.I.P NRS, but instead I'll say get F***ed. there was a theory I saw a while back that said MK1 and the Kameo system was supposed to be Injustice 3 with a sidekick system and I'm starting to think that was true lol.
Worst thing about invasion is there's no friggin map. After I was done playing the first time, I just forgot where was my last point of progress. And that was in season 1, after playing for THREE HOURS STRAIGHT. it bores me so much, having to fight virtual characters over and over for a drop for recolored skins. And when you want to come back to have no indication of where you left off. Coupled with acknowledgement that the path ahead is gonna be a damn chore.
The also very bad problem mk1 has was my grip since day 1: characters being so bland they don't stand by themselves. Scorpion literally having 4 strings made me wanna kill myself, coupled with the lacking, meaningless balance updates. Kameos were an interesting yet risky concept to me but its very apparent now their only fonctionnality is restraining the completeness of each character.
And btw when your character is trash but you still enjoy playing them you look forward to devs doing something (Scorpion suffer from the "all my attacks are high and half of them are useful" syndrome and i fuc**ng hate it. Since mk11 i'ts been normal to me that a majority characters have reliable options and diversity. Low attacks and overheads are completely absent from Scorpion. His change of personality with sub zero in this timeline is not emphasized enough and make no friggin difference to the average player, expect give them more confusion. Is this scorpion the real scorpion or is scorpion sub zero? Where is hanzo hasashi?
And don't get me started about only the player 1 being able to decide of the map, everything here is so wrong to my eyes, and to remember i preordered the ultimate edition on ps5, which i now wanna sell with my tv because i switched to pc and have nothing left to do on console, this is baffling. I'm telling y'all, when peacemaker comes out, i ain't gonna try him. I'M BORED, BORED!!!!
It goes back to the point that this game is a 25% Kompleted super rushed mess. When you pause, during the pause screen has a huge white space that was clearly supposed to have the map for whatever Mesa you're on. We're reaching a FOURTH Invasions season & STILL no freaking update to add maps! MK11 had maps in the Krypt, so how they went backwards shows me they stopped trying.

They need to go back thier roots, creepy atmosphere, ominous music, cool unlocks, dont get me wrong, the story mode is cool and all but its basically a movie with gaming in between, you pretty much one or two playthrough and done wth it.
That's what made the first trilogy so special. The lack of social media helped it's appeal when it came to it's secrets too.

Like when MKvsDC/MK9 came out, back then the story modes were cool and exciting. But now, they can't keep relying on it just by making the story longer. Aka, cutscenes taking 20-25 mins to play before a 2 min fight, repeat.
Konquest could at least allow them to merge story with a more interesting campaign. With cool and fun shit to do.

I’m definitely someone in the camp of playing Invasions all the time despite hating it, the reason he doesn’t know anyone is because all of us are ashamed of it. Though I don’t think the season 4/Peacemaker delay was a reason for anything, hell I’m more afraid of season 4 not having any farming methods for character mastery.
I finished season 3 tonight. I think I’m done with it it isn’t even remotely fun. I played Tekken 8 right after and had a blast.

I missed the pre-order and they haven’t been in the store rotation since 2021 because they are on rotation B which turns out will never be put back in. I do understand what he means in regards to invasions. I absolutely HATE invasions but I still do it for the unlocks and all. In the current season, I completed the invasions mode and once I reached the rank I wanted and unlocked the rank rewards I wanted, I stopped playing. I will start playing again when the next season starts and trudge through the muck that is invasions then play ranked until I reach the rank I want. Hopefully the rewards for the ranks are better and, if so, I'll play as long as it takes to reach those ranks.
I like invasions but will admit its just because of leveling up characters and unlocking skins, which NRS keeps nerfing every method to speed through doing this so its almost like a huge middle finger.

NRS pulled the okie dope by releasing a rushed product and slapping a live service model to make the game pretty.
People want a solid game that is balanced and fun, and it's not filled with bugs. We want a complete game, not an incomplete live service experience that a good game is piece meal to us. A lot more of transparency from the Devs would be nice, too.

Once you actually get into the game more than a casual and with the community. You realize how much BS his content is.
I never thought about it till you mentioned that MK just redesigns constantly. Compare to tekken where I was a top player in the 3/tag days and I come back and play casually 5 DR and tag 2 and I'm competitive against good players. Because there are only slight changes to the system so I can pick up and get by with a character. I may not be optimal and I'll get murdered by new moves but I can pick up and play. Every MK game I have to learn from scratch and usually don't bother.

I'm not loyal to NRS game anymore because I have to constantly relearn my favorite characters movesets every time they show up in a new MK game. Thanks Tom for vocalizing that fact in other videos, something that's always bothered me but I didn't know it bothered other people too.

Stuff that bother me among everything else, is how after all the updates the audio issues never been fixed audio cutting out mid game and even the frame issues where the game laggs so bad and frame drops mid game make me fight in slow motion. Also still leggy matches which compared first 2 seasons I hardly had lagg issues
To add more to your sf6 point, every character they release adds content to world tour mode. So not just a stage and a character but more content for the fun world tour mode

I saw this downfall coming months before release. The biggest mistake NRS made was sandwiching MK1 between SF6 and T8. I knew MK1 was gonna finally get exposed how mediocre MK really is. This might take several MK games to recover from. I’m predicting Tekken will king for at least 1 or 2 more installments while SF coming in 2nd possibly 1st if SF7 is amazing in every way.
Mk11 kinda got lucky in hindsight, since there were no new tekken or sf games back then.

For me, one of the MANY reasons this game got old for me is I’m just not interested in learning to play majority of the main cast. Learning new characters was a lot of the fun but i couldn’t be bothered for some reason in this game. All the characters I want to play are stuck as stupid kameos. And the only dlc characters I’m interested in are the mk characters, enough with the guest characters or at least don’t make them half the dlc.
Advocating for little short term compulsions to draw people in, such as living towers or little superficial events is wild.
They unironically need to rebalance most of the roster, and take heavy inspiration from Smoke(Video on my channel btw).
I think hes one of the few characters that can take full advantage of the kameo system.
Making combo breakers 2 bars instead of all 3 bars would be a step in the right direction imo..

Giving every character 10 new moves and forcing them into some kind of identity would be a start. That way at least the gameplay would be interesting and every character wouldn't benefit from running the same kameos. And drastically increase the power of the characters
This guy really tried to blame it on the players. By the first month of MK1, I'd already figured out several characters and kameos and felt there was nothing left to explore with those characters. In contrast, at this point in Tekken, I haven't even figured out the full move list and how to use it on the one character I'm trying to play.
