    According to his pupils, Heifetz worked on the first 2 exercises in Op 1 every day. When she was 10, Nicola Benedetti's teacher had her work intensively on these 2 exercises for months to solidify her left hand technique. One of the key differences between the top players and the rest of us is that they work harder and smarter on the basics.

    Even though I felt this should’ve been obvious to someone who’s been playing awhile, I hadn’t thought to play the exercise on different strings or to experiment with sound points. Thanks for the tip!

    My problem is that my pinky is so short that I have to turn my wrist, otherwise I have to really turn my wrist in the starting position. Ahh
