  • A little off-topic for the farm, but part of being a self-reliant homestead is being self-reliant for all that we have stewardship of. In this case, our 2012 Honda Accord EX--L V6. Check engine light came on, code was a P3400. Diagnosed as a rear oil pressure sensor and how to replace. It's a 10 minute fix and not scary at all! Also applies to any other 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 or 2012 Honda with the active displacement or their, VCM (Variable Cylinder Management). Fix is the same for the P3497, but it's the front pressure sensor located on the front, passenger-side of the engine.

    Thank you!! This fixed my problem! I was getting the P3400 code on a Honda Pilot 2011. My oil pressure switch on the left side by the oil stick was completely cracked! I went to Advance Auto and got the part for about $38 and the 24mm deep socket for $8. Problem fixed for less than $50!

    Thanks a lot! My crosstour lost power and felt like it was misfiring about 5 miles from my work this morning. My friend had a scanner and the P3400 code came up. 45 dollars and I fixed it in the parking lot after work. I had to get the part from the dealer because I couldn't wait. The light went out and I drove it 40 miles home with no issues!

    In most cases, oil pressure sensor was not the culprit, it is the O ring being hardened over the years and it caused lost oil pressure.

    Typically driving so many miles after a fresh oil change will fix the issue to allow the computer to register no fault. Cleaning the sensor gently is another approach. Majority of the time sensors aren’t faulty. Honda’s, especially the Odyssey’s are known for puttering until you service the vehicle. It’s odd, but consistent

    Lol! I have had this code come up intermittently on my Odyssey. It usually means that its time for an oil change. After I change the oil and make sure that the oil level is good, the light goes out. It doesn't happen everytime but maybe once a year or so. I don't know why but that valve is very sensitive to either oil level, pressure and/or cleanliness of the oil.

    Just wanted to update with my issue. I was getting p3497 error then started getting misfires in cylinder 2 and 4 too. I changed all 6 spark plugs took the VTEC or spool valve housing off took a flat head and was moving the spool valve inside housing back and forth with carb cleaner inside soaking it for a few minutes. I put everything back forget her and the pilot if driving so smooth right now. No codes have come back for a couple days now

      I used a Bosch obdii code reader that has a reset feature. Most on Amazon or auto parts stores can do it, just make sure in the functions is says, "clear" or "reset" fault codes. I'd give you my model of reader, but frankly, I don't like it very much and am shopping for a new one myself next time something breaks.. :-) Hope that helps!

    • @themikecranston
      @themikecranston 4 года назад +1

      If you cleared the code and it came back, that unfortunately wasn't the cause... It could also be the valve timing control solenoid, oil pump, pressure regulator or a PCM issue... Sheesh! At this point I'd continue up the foodchain, or, run it by a mechanic. This fix is by far the most common cause of failure. You could try swapping it with the rear to verify that the code doesn't change to make sure there's not something wrong with the circuit. I believe they're the same part.
