Hi Jon, I just picked up the Sport Cub S from Hobby Town Concord today. I haven't been in the air in a few years so this little guy should do the trick on getting my sticks back to where they were. Also Chino demonstrated his skills with his Rock Rey. He was making the Rey do back flips, something I've never seen before..totally cool! The truck is cool and so is Chino with his RC truck skills. Thanks for the video.
that's awesome! Great choice :). Happy to fly with you if we can work out a time! Yep, Chino is the man with the trucks and mods-he does some awesome stuff!
Am i the only guy whos stupid fpv cable was wired backwards? Black was positive and red was negative...... I let the blue smoke out of my camera for just a moment. I was able to reverse the polarity of the plug by swapping the pins and by some miracle of modern science my camera does seem to be working......So I guess there was a little smoke still left in there.
I never knew this plane was set up already for FPV that hole on top lol question where did you get the bigger tires? or was that stock and the new club sport s 2 just has smaller ones?
RCd. Thank you for your video. Can you please recommend a FPV kit. It would be my first FPV system so I looking for advice and/or suggestions. Thank you in advance.
Any ideas to get a discount or something for this set? I have this plane and it pretty cool. Also, how did you connect the camera with the inside of the plane?
Nice video! I am a helicopter pilot looking to get one for fun. I don't have lots of RC time so should I get the non fpv cub so it's less to lose if I crash?
Does this use the same motor as the carbon cub ss? I have a board and motor and like 30 extra batteries that would be awesome if it would plug and play.
Do you still have your Sport Cub S? I found the lead in mine, but it wasn't connected to anything. When I split the fuse open to connect it, I couldn't find anywhere on the board to connect it to. I've apparently confused HH tech support as they don't understand what I'm saying (with photos to boot). I did what you did to start, I have velcro on the top of my plane to hold a separate battery. Flies like a pig with all that weight.
Have you flown the UMX Radian FPV? If so which did you prefer... read where one guy said the S Cub S was not very good for FPV compared to the UMX Radian but looking at this video it obviously flies great. Thanks for sharing... and a big thanks to Horizon Hobbies for coming out with some small foam FPV planes to get the FPV camera in the air... all that matters and at this weight you're not going to cause any damage in an "event"...LOL
+John F Hendry I have flown the umx Radian fpv - not the version you buy ,but just sticking the camera on it (the fpv radian you buy is slightly lighter as the case is removed). ruclips.net/video/yuqhnpVVzL0/видео.html I prefer the sport cub s for fpv-just more my type of flying. Both are good though. This is just more fun :) ruclips.net/video/UEwNFH69hBc/видео.html
Hay thanks... thinking about getting one as it will let me fly without worrying about damaging anything "just in case" of a fly away or something and have a bunch of 250mAh batteries for it already. Wonder how the RX works with a micro 1.3 VTX without a notch filter and using the RX battery... is the power coming of the FCB? If so it must have an onboard filter and worth trying to save weight. Have fun....
Hay it's been a year... but I just put a 4.5g Cam/VX on the UMX Radian after about 10 hours flying it LOS to get to know it (amazing LOS glider and only limited by it's size seeing it) and found adding a second 4.4g battery for the cam was too much weight adding 22% of its own weight and robbed performance big time so you really want to keep it as light as possible to FPV it. It needs moving up to a 205mAh to run the VTX and I think if you ditch the cam case and solder it direct eliminating connectors and shortening wires to length saving over a gram it can handle a 205mAh but it's maxed out with the weight of the cam and surgery to lighten it should be done either way. Was surprised how much 4.4 grams affected it and without it all you'll have is 20 minutes max and 15 min to be safe IF you only motor up once or twice so it's really too small for a serious FPV motor glider beyond short flights whereas being able to carry the extra 4.4 gram battery gives you 30 safe minutes with 5min emergency to get back down and a 7g 260mAh would almost double that . A "mini" 150 gram Radian with a 2S brushless motor setup is needed IMO. So I'm looking at the new 110 gram Cub and studying the history of the AS3X trainers but don't know if the AS3X on the rudder is working or making it slip through turns as one guy reported so want to find out if it can be turned off. Sport Cub S is really tempting but I have wind up top and serious lift as well so too slow I'm afraid for where I'm located which is a great location... had a paraglider follow me in last night and it was getting dark... lights add weight too so another reason to up the scale of the UMXs for FPV..
Nice vid. I want one to fly low and slow around stuff. The vapor Fpv was top on my list but I think this will slow down nicely. Are you flying in self level mode? I'm curious how much it fights you while on Fpv. I have to turn the gain down on my planes with self level to make it a nicer flying experience
William Anzueto Thanks. I only fly it in experienced mode - it is ok in the other modes but does limit you too much. I've been flying it a lot lately and getting more comfortable going between obstacles. The vapor would be ok for indoor fpv but the sport cub s is probably going to be a lot more fun overall...and it can handle a little wind.
Does anyone have any tips for finding a downed plane in the woods? I recently flew out of rc range with the parkzone sport cub s2, have been searching for days, and can find it... Thanks in advance!
Sorry to hear that - planes in that situation are often farther away than you think. Do you know anyone with a quad? My First Quadcopter Search and Rescue Mission
Klinger RC Yeah it will be tough to find with a plane - what fpv tx are you getting? Just be sure of the range especially over trees etc. I'd help you out if I was close by.
Allister2013 That would be bad. Popping brains are no good. You can use these wheels-they are not the exact same but will do the job. :) www.horizonhobby.com/main-wheel-set%3A-piper-l-4-grasshopper-250-efl5031
you can use any micro 1s camera - in fact at this point I would recommend a different camera than the one here. Either the rmrc cricket cam or Eachine micro. Both are better.
Really nice stuff. That video answers a lot of my questions before I get one of these. Question: you say that the video image is nicer through the fatshark goggles than what is seen here. What did you use to capture this video? I assume it's captured on the ground, and not in the camera. Is that right? What model DVR did you have (so I can avoid it!) Also, have found found the upper limit on how much extra weight you can put on this plane before it starts to suffer for it?
Its a little 5 inch DVR from foxtechfpv. Yes its a remote video receiver/dvr. It's actually pretty good for what it is, but not as good reception and image as the goggles. I have since changed from the attitude V2 googles to dominator V2s. The dominators are amazing and have a built in dvr so it's a better idea of what you will see. Still, there is no way to capture the immersion you get with goggles on a youtube video. As far as weight-the fpv camera is 6 grams and the plane handles that fine. I would think you'd start having more issues when you get to 12 grams or so-just a guess though. It's a pretty light plane.
RCDeparture, how are the Dominators compared to the Attitudes (not including DVR)? I'm about to buy Attitudes to upgrade from the Teleporter v4, but I'm wondering how much better Dominators are... John umFlight.com
umFlight They are pretty close. The biggest difference to me was the color in the dom v2s - much more vivid. The attitudes are already a giant step up from the teleporters. The dom v2s are a much smaller step up from the attitudes.
+Deerej18 i've never tried it - i think id be too slow to hit the button fast enough anyway. Just fly it until the plane is on the ground one way or another. :)
That's pretty cool. I actually ended up ordering my first FPV setup- The "Skyzone Plug-N-Play FPV 500-Set With TS58500 TX, RC832 RX, Sony 700CCD and C/P Antennas" - Which seems like a really good deal. www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__66474__Skyzone_Plug_N_Play_FPV_500_Set_With_TS58500_TX_RC832_RX_Sony_700CCD_and_C_P_Antennas.html I also ordered that funny "face box" dorky looking Quanum "goggles" for now. I'll probably get some Fatshark Dominator HD next summer or over the winter. And I got a wide angle 2.1mm lens on ebay that I hope fits that cam that comes in kit above. Anyways I wonder if I get that little cam/transmitter that goes on the Sport Cub S, if I can just tune my vid Rx to the right channel and make it work with that? I know that kit I ordered comes with Left hand polarized antennas and I wonder if I need to get a right hand polarized one for that tiny little vid Tx or what. Not sure about that.
***** I used that setup on my big radian, and it worked amazingly well (only got in a few flights before winter). I think m something on my plane was causing some interference and I have to get to the bottom of that this coming spring/ summer though. I think it was my TM1000 telemetry unit. It still works great though, as that interference only happens in short pulses. For the smaller birds like my umx radian and umx sport cub s, I got the RMRC pico cam and micro fpv setup. So I got an Immersion ground station Rx, a Uno 5800 v2- (v4 out now though :-/ ...) , and am going to make another set of diy fpv goggles with that for the smaller fpv setup. Haven't fully tested it yet, but it should work great. I sent the Spektrum unit he uses in this video back after i bought it because it was defective.. the glue holding lens on would turn to liquid when the cam heated up (which it does) and adjusting focus was impossible.
It's the dvr more than the fpv system - I've since gone to FS Dom V2s with the built in dvr-much better to show what you really get out of it. Skip to 3:20 on this video-same spektrum system on a quad. ruclips.net/video/sHyTeur1awc/видео.html

what dvr would you suggest that will work with this kit. (fpv vapor kit)?
and what size/kind of tires are on this bird?
Thanks for the video! I am really close to buying one!Don
+Don Wood sure thing! thanks for checking it out-still a great little model. :)
just bought one from hobbyzone, i have a 808 micro cam that i plan to record some sunsets with, fpv will be my summer project.
I never knew this plane was set up already for FPV that hole on top lol question where did you get the bigger tires? or was that stock and the new club sport s 2 just has smaller ones?
Thanks for the great video and some of the tips. Now if the snow would just go away here!!
Happy New Year
GrampaKenCanada
+Ken K. Happy New Year Ken. You just need some skis on that one! :)
How expensive is the FPV camera and goggles?
YOU WERE GREAT MAN.
You may want to secure the lead now that you found it, so it does not fall back in?
It's fine-you can just leave it connected to the camera. Just leave it pulled out if you disconnect-it's got plenty of slack.
thanks,glad to know that.
ITS 2020 NOW. IS THE FPV SET UP STILL AVAILABLE
im going to look for it in 2021
how much video trasnmitting time do you get off one of those 200mA batteries?
RCd. Thank you for your video. Can you please recommend a FPV kit. It would be my first FPV system so I looking for advice and/or suggestions. Thank you in advance.

Thanks Paolo! I believe this only comes as the bnf now. It has the lead for the fpv so if you get a camera you can easily add it.
Okay thanks the super cub without the camera can be purchased RTF right?
Can you make a tutorial on how to install the fpv kit in the plane but also show what’s the best fpv kit to get?
Does this use the same motor as the carbon cub ss? I have a board and motor and like 30 extra batteries that would be awesome if it would plug and play.
Not the same - carbon cub ss is a 180 brushless outrunner. Sport cub s uses a geared brushed setup.
Very cool

yeah it's much better if you lose that extra pack. Something is weird about yours - there should definitely be a port to connect it to.
Nice where do you get the big wheels setup?
caguitas0 estoy viendo que masomenos asi seria el sistema que usted pidio, y lo usaria de esta manera, solo a corto alcance
saludos!
Eso es. A ver si para el Lunes ya está aquí el SkyZone System.!!!
I also own a sports Cubs, and I'm looking for bigger tiers, do you know what kind the are?

Klinger RC Sorry I am on the other side of the country-don't got a lipo big enough yet to make it to Florida.
Where'd you get the bigger tires?!? Awesome vid
Ryan Powell Thanks! Well those were pulled from a drawer but any 1.5-2" light foam wheel will do. Will have a video on this soon.

where did you get the tyres?? please reply with the link

How does larger wheels affect stuff?
+Kenneth Wang flies just a bit heavier but can taxi over the dirt better.
this looks like a great learner plane. it looked really fast in the video, can you slow it down with throttle so it is not so fast to learn. thanks
+Ray Harkins yes you can fly it pretty slow.
Ware did you get the wheels from?
That was so long ago I forget - someone in the comments may have asked the same thing.
Ok thanks
Where did you get the bigger wheels?
+Deerej18 these are the ones you want: www.e-fliterc.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=EFL5031
Thanks! And does the safe feature work pretty good? Has it gotten you out of some bad situations?
