Great video and you make the case for your seats very well. Worth keeping the old seats in case you ever sell the car and want to transfer the seats to your next one! I think you have the best of both worlds - you have an original Mk1 as a constant reminder of the Defender's roots which contrasts well with your lovely Defender. I'd love to do the same - I have an old '79 army Series 3 but would also love a Defender to modify and as an everyday driver.
The seats look great. That probably wouldn’t have been my choice of color, but customizing to your taste is what makes it enjoyable. Thanks for sharing this video!
Not too sure about colour at time of installation but I like them now and think they make the interior of your defender look upmarket...keep up the good work..you inspire me with your upgrades...
Out of this world Marcus! They look superb and another brill video 💪🏻😀
I have been on the fence about updating my seats. Thank you for your thoughts. 🙏
Hi Doc,
I think you nailed it, the beauty of a Defender is it’s down to the individual and their individual needs.
My Puma is very similar to yours, I spend ‘LOTS’ of money on mine and yesterday I took it to my local garage to get them to price up an Autobiography spray job, I couldn’t care less what the purists say, it’s my car and it’s in mint condition and it wouldn’t take much work to take it back to ‘Original’ if anyone would want to do it.
I don’t take mine off road, mud absolutely destroys cars, if you want to trash a Defender get an old army one, I use mine for adventures and Alps type journeys, next year we are planning a 9 country tour through the snow in Northern Europe going up higher than the Artic Circle to see the northern lights……it’s horses for courses Sir.
Keep up the great work Doc.
Kind regards
Tony
I think you've said it all. Do what you like to a Defender to suit your own personal taste. Those seats do look good. Regarding the heater in the Puma. It has two heat settings, off and standing at the side of a volcano. I've never been able to adjust between the two, generally end up opening the window.
😂😂 sound like effective seat heaters
@@thedoctorsgarage Hi Doc, I think Tony is referring to the main heater in the Puma, not the heated seats. Just an observation. 👍
To be fair, the Puma was the first version to incorporate a heater that regularly worked,
First prize for best funny comment
I’d love a defender but I’m too broad across the shoulders and don’t fit well, I used one for years in the past and still love them, Yours is awesome love everything about it,
Cheers Chris!
Having a similar debate right now with what to go for in Scout.. hard decision as wanting the utility and practicality but these look great!
Thanks mate - I absolutely love these but I also wouldn’t want them to get them too dirty 😂 #ChelseaTractor
They look fantastic the colour just works, I’m now considering would that go with my Silver 110 and the second row or is it going to be too much as would have to do above the dials on the dash and the grab bar on passenger side. Your Defender looks fantastic and like you mine is my daily so seats are important, I have an XS so one heat setting but thinking there may be an OEM 2 stage button on the market will have a look at LRO this weekend - are you going to be there with the Defender be great to see it in person!!
Looking forward to the next video and upgrades !!
Very nice. I'd definitely consider those seats, thanks for the review. My Puma's seat back's side foam keep collapsing, second time they have broken and I had to replace it, you end up sitting slightly skewed when it happens, not great for the back. I'd need the removable bases, I do find that I open the battery side quite often. The only reason I may not want to get such nice (and expensive) seats is that my dogs always climb into the front if I leave them for 30 seconds alone in the car. Could get a net I suppose but I have a feeling they would manage to hurt themselves somehow trying to get past it, they're not the smartest dogs!
Having watched this video and the last one, I can't help but wonder if the heated seat buttons are positionned upside down? A few cars have the electric window switches located in a similar position, and the graphic would show the bottom of the window nearest to you and the top of the window further away. For me it would seem more natural to orient the buttons 180 degrees from where they are now, with the seat base in the graphic closest to you. Nice install though. Wooden steering wheel and gear knob would really set it off I think.
Yes they are upside down lol
They look great. Did you move the rails back at all - to give yourself a little more leg room?
As well as being top quality, they look tremendous ! 👍🏻
Very nice! I want them but I still love removal bottom part. I guess you could move battery location?
I’ve put £150 Mercedes SLS seats into my discovery 2 and they’re amazing, required a fair bit of fabrication, but if you’re handy with a grinder and welder you can find leather bucket seats from luxury vehicles really cheaply on Facebook marketplace and eBay!
I like the style of these seats, but I doubt I would manage to keep seats that colour clean! I have a Puma XS, so battery and jack under passenger seat, and a fuse box (amongst other things) under drivers seat. When I am tinkering about, I do frequently need to go into the seat box, especially the passenger seat, so I personally would have to have a seat that allowed quick and tool-free access.
looking well doc been thinking of a set of these seats myself but in black
Firstly, you don’t need to defend your choice - it’s subjective and as you said, we all like Defenders which is the main thing! I’d be interested if you can source seat belts to match the seat colour?
Would love to change my seatbelts as they are a bit tired anyway- let me know if you know anywhere that’s good !
Would it make sense to move the battery from under seat to rear of cabin?
I think the seats are very nice, apart from the rather bling quilting effect that is sewn in them, but I can see that not being able to access the under seat area is a real deal breaker, I really like the Keswick Green paint, that looks very tasteful, but the seats for me are rather too brightly coloured, maybe I would order them in a mid green . Never worry what other people think about your choice, it is your vehicle so you can paint it pink if that is what you want . Chris B.
The seats look good. Is there a reason folks don't move the battery into the engine bay, under the hood?
Hi mate, love your videos! Had my TD5 90 a week now and love it, and slowly watching your videos. Just wondered what steering wheel you’ve put in it, looks like the kind of thing I’m after👍🏻Cheers
Hey David thanks- glad you’re enjoying the videos- mine is a Momo prototipo and I got it from Optimill
Lovely job, thank you!
Great video I’ve got to say those seats are amazing awesome choice..
Cheers!
Go and do some green lanes, no need to go extreme, there are plenty of lanes that won't cause any damage at all, North Wales or the Lakes have some amazing lanes with stunning scenery. 👍
personally in my truck i like my original seats. they fit my tall neck perfectly and allow me to sit up with my neck straight instead of cramped forwards like most modern seats that are terrible for my neck
Are yours the low or high base seats? I’m assuming low base. Think it refers to the height of the side padding. Climbing in and out of a defender always wears that side padding.
Yeah low base for that reason 👌🏻
I think It all depends what you use your defender for I mean you wouldn’t fit these lovely seats if it was a farm hack truck or a mud plugger only used off road. I think they are just right for what you use your car for
Those heater switches are upside down
Great vid< are the seats LUCARI LEATHER OEM HEATED FRONT CORBEAU LOW BASE SEATS FIT LAND ROVER DEFENDER ?. Just there are so many on there site
Hey Barry- yes they are the corbeau low base heated. They do a high base too- which essentially is the bolsters on the base- I think Lowe base suits a defender better
You've built a cracking looking Defender. It's almost criminal to get it dirty 😂
😂👌🏻
do you have anywhere you would surggest if i wanted to buy a defender?
Just trawling the usual sites unfortunately - auto trader, Pistonheads and eBay. I would just say take your time and have a really good look at it before you buy one!
I can’t get in and out with bucket seats , but they look great
At least they aren’t ‘ I have zero imagination’ black. Cracking colour combo.
I like the seats but along with the comments of others, I'm not necessarily convinced about the colour especially as you've otherwise gone with black / grey interior theme. That said, and again echoing the comments of others, one of the great things about Defenders is the ability to customise them according to your taste.
Have you noticed defenders going down in value mate ?
I have seen a lot for sale in the last week but quite high prices still I thought?
I like the colour, but not necessarily the style. But it’s your Defender so what I like and dislike is irrelevant.
Green over Tan is a winner. The seats look great and “opinions are like arseholes, everybody has one”.
I would say no just got mine in ready to make into a office chair
Hi Do you need some great lighting for your car to help you better driving, off-road? We're the pro auto lighting manufacturer for nearly 20 year and we're looking for sponsorship!
These seats are the dogs
🙏🏼🙏🏼👌🏻
Doc.
If you were a farm vet covered in a Freisians after-birth and mucky wellies, then I would suggest a wrong choice was made. However, as you are not, I think they're just fine.
you get a prize for saying The word Defender ? what car is it again
What’s my prize?
@@thedoctorsgarage you can have the Prize for the most brand loyalty, Im keen to see how this series one goes but def liking the Defender so far, some good content 😄
Yes you fell into the urban. trap
