A couple things i love about your reviews in general: I have noticed a few times now where your family strays into the video (NOT the skits) and you dont bother to edit it out or anything...shows a lot of class on your part. Also, I like how you dont edit out things like where you bang the camera, or shit doesnt work right...alot of reviewers refuse to show that kind of stuff, which, on the "not working" part, gives a bad misrepresentation of the toy, and on the first part, shows that you keep it way more real than any of the others...
Thanks for the honest review Bobby, your quickly becoming my go to reviewer dude! This Ironhide has bugged the hell out of me since I saw pictures of him in design stage and even watching some of the other guys reviews it still bugged me. Oh yea bring back the old music as that suits you much better, look forward to the next review!
I just did the shoulder "fix". I regret messing with it, he now has the FansToys squeak on the mushroom cap bicep swivel. I don't know if you already messed with it, but I thought it was worth telling you. Thanks for the great review.
The MP line got a new designer since MP-25 Tracks. It shows. The quality has gone down. I still like this Ironhide figure, though. He's not as bad as Tracks, but MP-10 through MP-23 was on a higher level.
+rick4777 I have actually pre-ordered Ramjet a while ago. He's based on the MP-11, who was co-designed by both guys. The main reason I ordered him is because I don't have any of the planes yet. I think Ramjet is cool enough, but I'm really waiting for Thrust.
Great review! I absolutely agree, looks on the shelf take precedent above everything else. I usually transform only once to get to robot mode and just smile at the shelf.
I used to not be a fan but you won me over. Now your my guy. I agree with mostly all your points and I like your work because you don't hold back. If it's good you say it, if it's crap you say it. Stay safe and have a great summer Mr. Skullface. 😁
Personally, I love this figure. The early photos bugged me a little, but once in hand, I didn't really have any problems with it. It's awesome. I also think that if they were going for a 100% cartoon robot and/or Alt mode look, it would absolutely lose something along the way. We can't take the cartoon robot look for real life engineering. My 2 cents anyway.
Great review as always man! Agree 100 percent, he will be a stand in for me for now, until something better comes along. Ironhide seems like he's one of those guys where the animation not differed enough from the vehicle to make him really hard to get just right
Ended up buying Ironhide thought maybe I'd feel better about him in hand and I didn't. That hip area really kills it. But I need an Ironhide for my collection and the third party offerings don't really cut it so just went official. Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping Fanstoys tackles him. Like always love your videos.
It may not be dead to rights on the toon look, but Ironhide was always the old strongman of the team. The old strongman asthetic does look like the guy has a belly. But that is just his layers of real working muscle, not that body builder fake stuff. So based on that, the 'belly' doesnt bother me as much as others. Also, sacrifices have to be made to get teh licensing for the alt modes, otherwise these things would cost closer to 500$.... *looks at MP-44
I definitely see where your coming from on the design issues. I don't man , for me , the good out weigh the bad. Hell I didn't even notice the hour glass part till you pointed that out lol ! I appreciate your honesty though . That's why I'm a big fan of yours . Hopefully , after a drink or 2 , maybe you'll take a better liking to him . Keep up the good work boss !
Can't believe I haven't seen this review before now (great job)!! Soooooo...lookin' at the animation model, Ironhide and Ratchet got guts, alright. I think that the problem with the MP design is that the way the torso builds up before locking the front in, that part behind the windshield is like an upside-down trapezoid with the side slopes going downward...the complete opposite of the windshield's right-side up trapezoid, so as a result, they clash visually. As for the face, I just saw a review by Toysatthetable, and he's done an interesting mod I don't think right many folks have thought of: he painted up a spare MP52 Starscream face (though to keep it gray, I think that Thundercracker and Skywarp are better options) and modified it to fit on Ironhide's noggin. Admittedly, it looks considerably better that way. And it's funny to me, because I think that the heads & faces of both Power of the Primes Rodimus Prime and Kingdom Rodimus Prime make better Ironhide heads than the actual Ironhide heads.
I'm loving this figure as well, like +opsimathics. The characterization of Ironhide, to me, has always been a veteran soldier with a 'beer belly' and a chip off his shoulder, hardened by war. So I think a deviation away from that generic 'broad shoulder tapering down to a slim waist in a V shaped manner' silhouette actually works for Ironhide.
+Joshua Teo thats cool man and like i always say, at the end of the day, ultimately, if you like it... you win, but it just doesnt look like the cartoon to me
+Bobby “Skullface” Skullface L exactly! That's why most of us are into the Masterpiece lineup: for cartoon accuracy! Now, when did Ironhide ever had hipskirts, Takara Tomy?
I'm a little late to the party on this review but great review. I don't have this one yet but hopefully going to. He has a "beer gut" or "energon gut", if you will. He's an old warrior/ Veteran who witnessed friends die, failed to save lives and witnessed things no soul should. Indulges in drink to cope with PTSD and fails, but failing leads to keep trying. This is what I see. Still an awesome and very capable warrior. Gut from trying to drown demons. Or just an aesthetic not done right. Who knows.
Even with the small "flaws" this figure has, its still way better than any other Ironhide representation out there. My biggest issues is that they could have done something with those hip panels to cover up the hollowness in his torso, and as a result he would have better outwards articulation. As far as the belly-look on him, maybe they could have added a hinch or something to make it more flat. But hey! Its still looks good to me. On a sidenote. I can't help thinking how both Tracks and Ironhide would have been if the old designer was designing these. What would have been done differently? Would it have been better or worse compared to how both Tracks and Ironhide turned out, or would it have ended up just the same? They had what they had to work with. The looks of their alt modes would have stayed just the same, but there could probably be some other engineering solutions that could have been for either the better or the worst. I guess there is no way to really know, other than if another third party company reverse engineers this mold and makes improvements of their own. Its easy to look at a finished product and see different solutions, than actually come up with those solutions from the very start. Anyways! This was the second figure from Takaras new designer, so we'll have to see how the future ones turns out. But personally, I think that Takara went a step backwards with the new designer, and I wish that they had stayed with the old one. A wise man once said; Don't fix shit that ain't broken! And even though I don't know his name, he was pretty damn right about his statement! For better or for worse, this was a great review, buddy! Straight from the heart and no gloryfication what so ever, and thats what I love about you, my friend! So, thats my 5 cents, and Im out! The pizza was a bit on the bad side this weekend, so Im off to the good old chair in my other "office" LOL!
Bobby Skullface L Where?!? You're what!?! Oh my God! I hope you weren't in my chair when I sat down! Please don't be in my chair! Please! Please! Please! Ahhh! Thanks God! You're not there... Phew! Did I leave you in the bathroom? Man! If so, I feel so sorry for you, dude! That pizza I ate did not leave a good smell when I was done on the can LOL!
Been waiting for this review and you nailed it once again!. I must admit I was really impressed when I first opened him and checked him out. I do agree with your points as you have a way of making me look at things with a bit more of a neutral mind and not just my Transformers geek mind lol. He looks a bit odd in places but for some reason I get a smile on my face when I look at him so for that I can look past some parts and think he's going to make a good addition in the long run (I hope)
I'm sold on this figure. Belly doesn't bother me, I don't think 'hide was ever the bondi beach muscle type, more like rugged old beergut sargeant from a dozen battles, comrade in arms to prime and Kup.
+opsimathics thats cool man and like i always say, at the end of the day, ultimately, if you like it... you win. but for me it just doesnt look like the cartoon
Interesting, I never thought about it that way. I will trying to get my hands on the upgrade kits because I just bought Ratchet and Ironhide, alas, the late tax is real.
Thanks again for the review. After watching this review and your Inferno review, I'm going to still have to go with Ironhide. I am only able to purchase one or the other right now. I think that for the accessories, the general engineering, and detail, it is a better piece, plus like you, my dad was a fireman, so I am a little weird about accuracy of an apparatus. I have to agree with you about the chest piece. I also think those hip skirts should be able to lift up to the torso, to clean it up a bit. Like you, I am not too interested in modding my figures and don't really have the time. I won't know how I will like the bot mode until is in hand. I also agree that he looks a little more like a masterpiece should than Inferno. I think the transformation looks fun and intricate too. I also have to agree that it's about how it looks to you, on your shelf. The comparison of Reflector that you used, perfectly exemplifies your point. I can't wait for your discussion on the direction Takara is taking the MP line. I couldn't agree more.
Hey bobby, just a note regarding GCW Bruticus. Get the takara version, it is so much more better looking than Hasbros version. Also enjoyed the video man. Keep it up!
Great review. I ended up buying this guy after watching the review. The gut doesn't bother me much at all, and I prefer him greatly over voodoo's offer. (TFC's was a joke if you ask me). You managed to be objective on the quality and honest on your opinion. I appreciate that. Keep it up!
Great review....spot on with new mechanics. Ironhide is badass love the presence the older timer brings to the display. It would be great to have a Kup soon. Awesome materials...fantastic materials and for me personally looks like dude's been in the cyber gym not the local energon waterhole LOL...........bring on Ratchet! Will you be reviewing MakeToys Hardhead anytime soon?
Great video again Uncle Skullz. I like him and his chest doesn't bother me as much as you but I understand what you're saying. I think if they had the bottom half of his chest, the part with the headlight, flip up under the widow and add a grey piece it would be a little more cartoonish but to try and make it as square wouldn't work with the van mode. Btw just won Nero Rex off eBay for $200....had to brag haha
I agree with all those aesthetic issues, and hope I'll be able to overlook them when Fed Ex finally deigns to deliver mine (assuming they're able to outrun the heat death of the universe). Honestly, I'll put up with a lot from official figures if for no other reason than to ease my collector OCD. "MP Ironhide" is so much more satisfying to add to a list than "NX-37 - Hillbilly Fighting Robot" from Been-In-Business-For-One-Day Toys.
I totally get the your grip on how a figure is supposed to look on your shelf. I am curious if your criteria over time has changed though. Your review on Apollyon was very critical on valid reasons, but as a figure on the shelf, for my tastes he is top notch. Almost perfect. Ironhide, good toy, bad display Apollyon, bad toy, good display (Like reflector)
+D0wnshift I agree, I think my main issue with apollyon is after the transformation he'll never be the same. at least in my experience. the paint chipped and things never sat right or moved properly again. that's a pretty big issue for me
Another great review. I totally disagree about the aesthetics of the chest but you nailed that in your review too. Like you said, if you like how it looks, you'll love this. If you don't, that won't change (paraphrasing). For some reason I always thought of toon Ironhide as having a bit of a gut and this gave me exactly what I wanted on that score. I can see why you don't like it. The ability to plug one of his flame attachments into his bunghole for an explosive farting pose catapults him even further into the top echelon for me. Kind of joking but not entirely. Really love posing him that way.
"Face launching action! ! !" I am usually in the middle when it comes to liking Clear Plastic Windows, but for some reason on this piece, the clear plastic just looks amazing to me, it really reminds me of the Car Robots/RiD Era toys. Like I said on some of my older comments, I'm the kind of collector that likes to mess with their toys, and this Transformation seems amazing, exactly what i would expect from a TT Product. For now I'll probably hold out for a Black/Diaclone Version, If that doesn't happen I'll probably get the Ratchet since I like the colors better. Cheers.
You nailed it right on the head,he looks like he has a beer belly instead of the heroic proportions of the chest,it's the same reason why I haven't bought this and refuse to buy x-transbots Scourge either, why should I have to settle for a figure that I think is less than when in my mind it doesn't look right at all,ill just w8 till Fanstoys gives us a proper iteration if these awesome characters...thanx again love the old videos by the way 👍
It's funny, I got mine today and when I got done transforming him I muttered under my breath the old SCUism "I hate this guy for what he does right." I love the legs, love the paint, love the accessories, love the face sculpt (which surprises me), love the van mode, like to colors, etc. So much of that beat out my expectations by far. I am not crazy about these hip skirts though and wish those could have been done better. I don't hate them as much as I thought I would, but they still aren't for me. I also wish the headlights could have disappeared the way they do in the animation. He's not bad, but he could have been perfect...and that sucks.
Bobby. I think you may have been spoiled with Quakeblast. The reality is the G1 cartoon never had a toy as such given the toy was totally different. The hip panels I don't think could be helped. I gotta say it's my fave MP since Wheeljack with genius transformation. But that's the great thing we all have an opinion. I can't wait for ratchet but il wait till I see a few reviews of hot rod. thank you for doing the collector community a great service. with unbiased reviews.
I had already received and had plenty o'floor time (shout out to Deluxe) with this guy. But after hearing all of the build up convos on SCU had to hear your final thoughts. I totally agree he is well made, great accessories etc. BUT I love and hate him aesthetically at the same time...I grew up with the G1 toy which was a huge disappointment to me so this guy is marvellous compared to that...but some of those design choices like the belly and butt tires and hip skirts beg the question WHY....oh well gonna look only at the +. Thanks again for the review man much appreciated!
I see what your saying, the part I can't get past is the Diaper /Granny Panties hes wearing. Its like hes got on depends. I will say hes a step up from the G1 Ironhide. Thanks for the great review as always.
Great video dude, so much passion in that one. I totally see, and in a lot of cases agree with those design choices, but they don't spoil it for me. The chest is a long way from animated accuracy, but what can you do. As always looking forward to the next one.
Another good review skully however I'm not sold on Ironhide... I just don't like the waist and side plus the proportions of the chest is off to me. I'm thinking of going with tfc ironwill the aesthetics to me seem better proportionate throughout the figure, what do you think skully? Would you swap out for ironwill? #thatsafactjack 😰
Hey Bobby Kibbleface, I just installed the Shadow Fisher upgrade kit and (while not perfect) he is WAY better without those stupid panels on his hips. I can deal with the tire butt. I know you're not usually into upgrade kits, but you should give this one a try for Ironhide & Ratchet. It's easy to do and the color match is actually pretty spot on.
Bobby Skullface L yea, there is plenty of things going against this guy. but for some reason getting rid of the hip panels helps his overall profile. still don't like his chest/gut but that would be a lot harder to fix. I think you'd be forced to do a faux chest to get it right. which I'd be fine with. save us fans toys, you're our only hope. lol
Great review, thanks again. I'm feeling the same way about this guy and am passing on him. I wish that the voodoo robots didn't have the wide stance issue or I would have picked them up. The funny thing about the mods that have been done on this guy is how it shows that Takara could have easily fixed this problem and made a better figure! They have been so sloppy in general it is frustrating. BTW I checked the mods done by the Chinese guy and he had to make a couple somewhat complicated interacting parts out of white styrene (which you probably noticed as well) and that's where I passed on that idea, although the result was very good of course. Here's hoping someone does a G1 Ironhide/Ratchet right sometime in the future.
Thank you for doing this review. He just doesn't look like a "Masterpiece" to me in robot mode. The side skirts make him look like he isn't finished transforming. I just can't get past it and his awkward chest/waist. Gotta wait to see if someone else makes one that is great in both modes.
I really love this guy. actually can't wait for Ratchet. Haven't had any problems with my face popping off...apparently some are. his chest in my opinion looks great. my only problem with this figure is his torso seems a bit elongated...my by hair. besides that, I love 'em! not crazy about the bumper as well...great and honest review buddy!
From animation to this, I think the belly (yes I see it too) could have been fixed with one more hinge (maybe more to accommodate). The angle below the windshield and above the autobot logo is around like 30 degrees give or take, and in animation it's about 90. If that belly folded in and made a bulkier chest, it would be spot on. Maybe not eliminate the hourglass, but the belly could've been avoided, and just finished him off. For a fig that does so much else right, it's surprising that's missed.
Hello Mr Skullface. I have a couple ideas for sit down Saturdays. 1)How do they hold up/ quality over time for figures. (My ironhide has bad paint chipping. ) 2) what MP figures fit each character in your collection and would you want an update.
just got mine yesterday...he is top notch....though i may end up trading him off for Ratchet...loves me some Ratchet...not a huge fan of the sled...but dont have to acknowledge its existence..he looks so great on the MP shelf with all the others...legit and 3rd party alike...his transformation is brilliant...love the way everything moves on this guy..
I thought this guy looked really good, chest/belly didn't bother me...... Until you put him with prime and grapple. Then I couldn't stop noticing his beer belly. He looks like a vet soldier who's let himself go haha. The colour is magnificent! And despite his gut and that non masterpiece shoulder ratchet, I think it's the best ironhide we've got so far. Thanks Bobby 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Also if you do the mod will you do a vid on it? Peace out!!
my first car was a Nissan vannette, I called it the Snausage and glued a Micromaster Tote to the dashboard for luck. then immediately crashed it into a tree on an icy road and got a concussion. not the ideal ironhide but damn the ratchet version looks perfect for me.
Looks is something you really can't get around , you either like it or you don't. I like his looks pretty well. I just got him in today and im having a pretty good time with him. He looks good with other MP 3p figs and he poses pretty well too. I definitely like it better than the offering from voodoo. I think Maketoys or Fanstoys might be able to top this one , however for the money I'm more than pleased and hes definitely going on the shelf :).
I agree with your review of the figure I wish the proportions were better; it sucks because I really liked this figure as a kid, and would have gladly dropped the sled and accessory's for a higher parts count on the figure to correct the issues with his proportions.
Actually if you look closely to the anime, the only part that should not be there is the small sliver down the bottom. That is the front bumper. That is the only part that isn't there. And perhaps the entire thing is squeezed more. But hey it is animation vs real life. I do believe they chould have transformered it away with some hinges. And push back the front lights perhaps , that would make it more accurate.
Great review as per usual. I thought you would have a problem (like many people had, me not included) with the "diaper" but apparently you didn't. XD P.S Did you plan on doing "TFC OS-01 Ironwill"?
Awesome review and all of your points are valid. I appreciate your reviews because of your honesty. I didn't pre order him because the pics scarred me but after seeing several reviews I'm definitely going to pick him up. For me personally I always pictured him with a beer gut and don't mind the look at all. This is basically the Iron Hide I've always wanted. He was one of my favorite Transformers growing up but the toy was so horrible I never could bring myself to get it. I like the nod to that horrible figure with the weapon sled and I really dig the alternate face. I may be wrong but to me it's the exact expression he had right before Megatron killed him in the original animated movie. Sorry for being so long winded but now I have to ask. Since Ratchet is basically the same mold are you going to pick him up or pass on him. I've just pre ordered mine as I know I'll love it but I was just curious as to what your plans are for the Autobot Medic?
I've only watched a few of your videos, and here's my take: You're very critical in the videos I've seen, but I don't think that's a bad thing. It's refreshingly honest. Do you, and don't apologize for it.
I agree with some of your points, especially on the torso and the hip kibble. Personally I wish they could have found a way to get rid of the bumper in Robot mode. Currently, in my opinion this is the best MP Ironhide in the market. Voodoo may have the better robot mode proportions, but I just didn't like how that toy feels and transforms and it was more expensive. TFC is a different take of an MP Ironhide and not really meant to be show accurate so not really my cup of tea.
"its not my job make it look good its there's!" Amen brother Bobby! So I have to ask do you think this is a step forward for the MP line or back after Tracks? Or no movement at all?
i like to leave it up to your imagination. im not sure why, but i like the idea of people thinking i just always have box cutters laying around hahahahah, but in all seriousness its a marker, theyre actually my kids markers, but yea, cheers!
It seems that the quality on these MP figures is starting to vary.Like starting with Optimus (MP 10) it felt like Takara stepped up their game but then Tracks came it felt like they were slacking and then Inferno came but it was like a 50/50,after that there's Megatron where it's like Takara really put effort.
Ah... cool... I personally dislike the emptiness of the void (and why I really dislike Tracks) in middle of the silhouette more so than the frontal view on this.
I think its ok. I always thought of Ironhide as the old boxer kinda like George Foreman in his last days fighting. Body wise. But ill wait for the Toys r us release. I hate paying extra for figures that will eventually come to the U.S. Cheaper. Ill save my money for 3rd party stuff. I just hate that Hasblow waits so long to get them here. Awesome review as always.
I agree, that he has parts, that look weird. But it is the same with the Takara carbots, they have this kind of robotic proportions, that looks off. I think, that FT is currently doing a better job of creating figures, that have a more solid toon design like MP10.
I dont mind the gut. Yes, that part of the van was different in the cartoon, but it doesnt bother me that much. What bothers me is that just behind it, it is narrower and it looks weird. Also (as I commented somewhere else) I remember hating the face when the first pictures appeared. Dunno if they changed it or it was just weird angles...
I think if those hip panels could be modded to fill out the sides of his chest, and his pelvis was trimmed down he'd look the part. If I have to do extensive mods though I'll wait for a ko.
I think the figure looks great. The robot mode breaks your normal robot design. It shows character. Funny how people's stereotypical views on what a "male" figure should be is the slim, wider chest than belly/waist look. I mean shoot, we all know the preferred girls look (Barbie). LOL But the tire butts do bother me. Thanks for Videos man. I always appreciate and watch them, agree or not. :)
Honestly, it looks good, quite passable. Although, which would you pick though, this, iGear, Maketoys, or TFC? They look great, but this one looks great. Just want an opinion of which is better. :p
When I first started collecting 3rd party it was to supplement my classics collections eventually it turned into which official products make the cut to go with my 3rd party collection. It's a shame but it seems like masterpiece is heading that way as well.
Catapult face steals the show. XD I think the chest never bothered me, but after your review...huh...wonder how much it´ll bother me once I apply the Shadow Fisher upgrades. Otherwise...I love this dude, he got me back into the TF game and INTO the new MP scale. I was mindblown by it.
Great review. But I've always imagined G1 Ironhide with a gut. Maybe that's why it doesn't bother me all that much. He's old, seen a lot of battles, and had a few too many cheeseburgers. I'm okay with that. I' d brobably eat a lot of cheeseburgers too if I found out I turn into a boring minivan while the other Autobots get to turn into cool sports cars. Just kidding.
I got him same day I got ToyWorlds Scavenger and Bonecrusher and he was less impressive compare to the 3rd party :/ I believe if they made the roof to come of and become the base that way they could have result a better robot mode.(believe some time "partsforming" can lead into a fantastic results) Plush, Ratchet's roof did came of and became a medical base once in the early episodes I can not see why no improvise and make a battle station for Ironhide base on his G1 Toy :/
Dear Uncle Skullface, I think the reason his chest is so bothersome is: A: Ironhide is supposed to be more of a beefy toughguy, and this shape is more reminiscent of Animated Ratchet (old, fat and saggy). B: The shape hearkens back to generations Ironhide, which is still a sore spot for most of us....
A couple things i love about your reviews in general:
I have noticed a few times now where your family strays into the video (NOT the skits) and you dont bother to edit it out or anything...shows a lot of class on your part.
+Rasmo 07 yes sir, i think that stuff is important to see
"It's Ironhide is what it's *supposed* to be"
Awesome.
+liquidroyl lol many thanks
Thanks for the honest review Bobby, your quickly becoming my go to reviewer dude! This Ironhide has bugged the hell out of me since I saw pictures of him in design stage and even watching some of the other guys reviews it still bugged me. Oh yea bring back the old music as that suits you much better, look forward to the next review!
+Roger Olver thanks man, and no old music lol, were moving forward, always in motion is the future ;)
10:10 hey Bob whos that? Jenna? she sounds super toddlery, great video Man!
I just did the shoulder "fix". I regret messing with it, he now has the FansToys squeak on the mushroom cap bicep swivel. I don't know if you already messed with it, but I thought it was worth telling you. Thanks for the great review.
ugh sorry to hear that
The MP line got a new designer since MP-25 Tracks. It shows. The quality has gone down.
I still like this Ironhide figure, though. He's not as bad as Tracks, but MP-10 through MP-23 was on a higher level.
+Dennis E im with you
+Dennis E That upcoming Ramjet looks mighty sweet thou.
+rick4777 I have actually pre-ordered Ramjet a while ago. He's based on the MP-11, who was co-designed by both guys. The main reason I ordered him is because I don't have any of the planes yet. I think Ramjet is cool enough, but I'm really waiting for Thrust.
Dennis E My favorite is Dirge.
That's because it's from the designer who gave us mp9 and those before him the designer who gave us mp10 is now working on the combiner wars molds
Great review! I absolutely agree, looks on the shelf take precedent above everything else. I usually transform only once to get to robot mode and just smile at the shelf.
+James Rich yep!
Exactly how I have him, in the back of the display with a few MP cars in front of him... hides the imperfections fairly well.
+The Ranger Medic agreed
I used to not be a fan but you won me over. Now your my guy. I agree with mostly all your points and I like your work because you don't hold back. If it's good you say it, if it's crap you say it. Stay safe and have a great summer Mr. Skullface. 😁
Hahaha welcome!
+OptimusX1972 im sincerely glad he does it for you, i envy you honestly. i wish i had that same love and happiness with him
Great review as always man! Agree 100 percent, he will be a stand in for me for now, until something better comes along. Ironhide seems like he's one of those guys where the animation not differed enough from the vehicle to make him really hard to get just right
+jmg3k ageed
Ended up buying Ironhide thought maybe I'd feel better about him in hand and I didn't. That hip area really kills it. But I need an Ironhide for my collection and the third party offerings don't really cut it so just went official. Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping Fanstoys tackles him. Like always love your videos.
+Eugene Robledo yea man welcome to the club brother
+HAWKSFAN79 hahaha many thanks man and im glad you enjoy him
Great review man, i coulden't agree more. That chest man, yikes.I love that Igear Ironhide, awesome CHUG figure.
+Ray's Reviews (DMSL2007) agreed
That dark line on the side you pointed out at the beginning is the groove for the sliding door. The g1 toy tries to emulate it too on the stickers.
+Casey Regent not the darker yellow but the red showing through in panel line ups underneath was my issue
Love my Uncle Skullface's rant... TRUTH
+Godsize1976 thank you
Watching this in 2019 and Takara just announced a 2.0 Bumblebee. I've got my fingers crossed for a Ratchet and Ironhide 2.0 to fix pregnant autobots.
Judging by Bumblebee 2.0....ugh
Let's see if FT will give Ironhide and Ratchet a go...and we will get them within the next decade
But robots can’t get pregnant...
+eSeReS im with you man
Bobby Skullface L
Where?!?
+Sam Thompson (Samsformers) well if you can look past it, hes a great figure
I'm sold on this figure. Belly doesn't bother me, I don't think 'hide was ever the bondi beach muscle type, more like rugged old beergut sargeant from a dozen battles, comrade in arms to prime and Kup.
+opsimathics thats cool man and like i always say, at the end of the day, ultimately, if you like it... you win. but for me it just doesnt look like the cartoon
+Bobby “Skullface” Skullface L Could not agree more with you on the upper body design.
Tom Maclary enjoy!
Hey bobby, just a note regarding GCW Bruticus. Get the takara version, it is so much more better looking than Hasbros version. Also enjoyed the video man. Keep it up!
+Thomas L thanks man
Great review. I ended up buying this guy after watching the review. The gut doesn't bother me much at all, and I prefer him greatly over voodoo's offer. (TFC's was a joke if you ask me). You managed to be objective on the quality and honest on your opinion. I appreciate that. Keep it up!
Many thanks man. I appreciate the kind words
Thanks mate :) I thought I was nearly going to break it before I watched you transform him ;)
+ttandc hahaha no worries man, and thanks for watching
We def need a Ratchet 2.0.
There's so much details to improve.
His lower arms, his hips, non transluscent windows, his silhouette, his side view etc
Hey Bobby, you should make an informational video for when you do the mod. I bet we're not the only ones unsatisfied with the hip skirts.
Agreed. I want a mod as well.
+Jack S if i end up doing it i will
Great review man, he's not the best mp but he still gets the job done imo, also the whoa sin the video killed me lol
+alex v reviews hahahah nice
Great review....spot on with new mechanics. Ironhide is badass love the presence the older timer brings to the display. It would be great to have a Kup soon. Awesome materials...fantastic materials and for me personally looks like dude's been in the cyber gym not the local energon waterhole LOL...........bring on Ratchet! Will you be reviewing MakeToys Hardhead anytime soon?
+David Lenshyn yep
Great video again Uncle Skullz. I like him and his chest doesn't bother me as much as you but I understand what you're saying. I think if they had the bottom half of his chest, the part with the headlight, flip up under the widow and add a grey piece it would be a little more cartoonish but to try and make it as square wouldn't work with the van mode. Btw just won Nero Rex off eBay for $200....had to brag haha
+Jon Langs wowwwwww congrats man!!!!
+Sean Whitmore LOL i like that, see for me my expectations are higher for the exact same reasons
Nice review as always! One thing I think that can improve its looking is don't flip his belly button down.
+顾帆 "belly button" lol thats funny
I totally get the your grip on how a figure is supposed to look on your shelf. I am curious if your criteria over time has changed though. Your review on Apollyon was very critical on valid reasons, but as a figure on the shelf, for my tastes he is top notch. Almost perfect.
Ironhide, good toy, bad display
Apollyon, bad toy, good display (Like reflector)
+D0wnshift I agree, I think my main issue with apollyon is after the transformation he'll never be the same. at least in my experience. the paint chipped and things never sat right or moved properly again. that's a pretty big issue for me
such a great character but he looks off
+Anthony Court agreed
Another great review. I totally disagree about the aesthetics of the chest but you nailed that in your review too. Like you said, if you like how it looks, you'll love this. If you don't, that won't change (paraphrasing). For some reason I always thought of toon Ironhide as having a bit of a gut and this gave me exactly what I wanted on that score. I can see why you don't like it.
The ability to plug one of his flame attachments into his bunghole for an explosive farting pose catapults him even further into the top echelon for me. Kind of joking but not entirely. Really love posing him that way.
+tfronczek hahahah yea ive seen that lol
"Face launching action! ! !"
I am usually in the middle when it comes to liking Clear Plastic Windows, but for some reason on this piece, the clear plastic just looks amazing to me, it really reminds me of the Car Robots/RiD Era toys.
Cheers.
+Toolala thanks man and yea that face launching gimmick is something else
You nailed it right on the head,he looks like he has a beer belly instead of the heroic proportions of the chest,it's the same reason why I haven't bought this and refuse to buy x-transbots Scourge either, why should I have to settle for a figure that I think is less than when in my mind it doesn't look right at all,ill just w8 till Fanstoys gives us a proper iteration if these awesome characters...thanx again love the old videos by the way 👍
I have always had issues liking Ironhide and Rachet's design in alt and robot mode!
+BPhife this one was so close...
+MP Collector totally agree
+Alan Ó Cléirigh thanks man, but i think if theres a will theres a way, i dont believe in "cant" ;)
+Tygr Trax i hear you man and thanks for watching
I see what your saying, the part I can't get past is the Diaper /Granny Panties hes wearing. Its like hes got on depends. I will say hes a step up from the G1 Ironhide. Thanks for the great review as always.
+RoleKeeper lmao thanks man
Great video dude, so much passion in that one. I totally see, and in a lot of cases agree with those design choices, but they don't spoil it for me. The chest is a long way from animated accuracy, but what can you do. As always looking forward to the next one.
+astartespete yea, if you can get past that, you'll love this guy
It's easy to do and the color match is actually pretty spot on.
my only thing is, thats not what bothers me about this guy
+MultiJamesman yea man, im not sure the definitive ironhide has been made yet unfortunately
Bobby Skullface L Agreed, let's hope some quality company agrees.
Thank you for doing this review. He just doesn't look like a "Masterpiece" to me in robot mode. The side skirts make him look like he isn't finished transforming. I just can't get past it and his awkward chest/waist. Gotta wait to see if someone else makes one that is great in both modes.
+Casey280 same man, thanks for watching
I really love this guy. actually can't wait for Ratchet. Haven't had any problems with my face popping off...apparently some are. his chest in my opinion looks great. my only problem with this figure is his torso seems a bit elongated...my by hair. besides that, I love 'em!
not crazy about the bumper as well...great and honest review buddy!
+Brad Koski many thanks man, and glad you enjoy him
From animation to this, I think the belly (yes I see it too) could have been fixed with one more hinge (maybe more to accommodate).
+Kenny “Kennyprime” McKinnon im with you!
Hello Mr Skullface. I have a couple ideas for sit down Saturdays.
1)How do they hold up/ quality over time for figures. (My ironhide has bad paint chipping. )
2) what MP figures fit each character in your collection and would you want an update.
Dadbod Ironhide. There was also "Skullface's face pops off" skit in there.
+Orin Thomas lol
Side question: is there anyway to keep the chrome from chipping off? Maybe apply some kind of clear coat finish??
i didnt have any issue with the chrome that i recall
Bobby Skullface L ah, okay. I thought that chrome would easily chip off of plastics and die cast...
Maybe I was wrong...
just got mine yesterday...he is top notch....though i may end up trading him off for Ratchet...loves me some Ratchet...not a huge fan of the sled...but dont have to acknowledge its existence..he looks so great on the MP shelf with all the others...legit and 3rd party alike...his transformation is brilliant...love the way everything moves on this guy..
+MrSwindle666 i certainly do love the transformation
I thought this guy looked really good, chest/belly didn't bother me...... Until you put him with prime and grapple. Then I couldn't stop noticing his beer belly. He looks like a vet soldier who's let himself go haha.
The colour is magnificent! And despite his gut and that non masterpiece shoulder ratchet, I think it's the best ironhide we've got so far.
Thanks Bobby 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Also if you do the mod will you do a vid on it?
Peace out!!
+Cliff Jacker yea, im not sure i'll do it, but if i do i will definitely shoot it and post it
my first car was a Nissan vannette, I called it the Snausage and glued a Micromaster Tote to the dashboard for luck. then immediately crashed it into a tree on an icy road and got a concussion.
not the ideal ironhide but damn the ratchet version looks perfect for me.
+mantis999999999 wow man, thats crazy
I watch your videos just to hear your complaints of the figure....Keep it up!
+LT LT lol will do
Looks is something you really can't get around , you either like it or you don't.
+Justin Linett exactly
Even though I disagree with most of your review thanks for it. I got it the other day and love it.
+Qc4073 thats cool man and like i always say, at the end of the day, ultimately, if you like it... you win
I agree with your review of the figure I wish the proportions were better; it sucks because I really liked this figure as a kid, and would have gladly dropped the sled and accessory's for a higher parts count on the figure to correct the issues with his proportions.
+Toopassive amen
Actually if you look closely to the anime, the only part that should not be there is the small sliver down the bottom. That is the front bumper. That is the only part that isn't there. And perhaps the entire thing is squeezed more. But hey it is animation vs real life. I do believe they chould have transformered it away with some hinges. And push back the front lights perhaps , that would make it more accurate.
Great review as per usual. I thought you would have a problem (like many people had, me not included) with the "diaper" but apparently you didn't. XD P.S Did you plan on doing "TFC OS-01 Ironwill"?
+TheAnt1hero yea because that look is bretty toon accurate so im good with the diaper
+Toy Man 1976 awesome man i hope you enjoy him. i'll buy ratchet too, mp's usually retain their value so if a better one comes along ill just flip it
It's 2020 and I agree with Mr. Skullface... thanks for the review.
Please do a mod tutorial video
on the skirt pieces and wheels
+XSwordStoneX if i do ill post it
Sweet
I've only watched a few of your videos, and here's my take: You're very critical in the videos I've seen, but I don't think that's a bad thing. It's refreshingly honest. Do you, and don't apologize for it.
thanks buddy
I agree with some of your points, especially on the torso and the hip kibble. Personally I wish they could have found a way to get rid of the bumper in Robot mode. Currently, in my opinion this is the best MP Ironhide in the market. Voodoo may have the better robot mode proportions, but I just didn't like how that toy feels and transforms and it was more expensive. TFC is a different take of an MP Ironhide and not really meant to be show accurate so not really my cup of tea.
+primekiller i agree this is the best available
I'm not big on action features but the face shooting gimmick. Nailed it I'm in
+Phoenix Richardson lmao
Why did you stop doing the trailer test?
"its not my job make it look good its there's!" Amen brother Bobby! So I have to ask do you think this is a step forward for the MP line or back after Tracks? Or no movement at all?
+Mr Nobody id say its better because it works as a figure, just looks weird
Where's the lie? Just ordered Ratchet and Ironhide, I can live with the shape and he won't be hidden behind other bots.
The G1 toy was one of my favorites as a kid, so I just had to get this figure. Might try to mod it, also.
+eyescovered right on
Couldn't agree more, I do not like the look of the chest and hips. Which ironhide design are you choosing for your top shelf ironhide?
+yellowgut this one... for now ;)
15:42 wao you can actually tell when the meds stop working.
in the skit about the drawing what is that? a marker or a boxcutter?
+Green Weeaboo what does your heart tell you? ;)
marker? sorry my bad
i like to leave it up to your imagination. im not sure why, but i like the idea of people thinking i just always have box cutters laying around hahahahah, but in all seriousness its a marker, theyre actually my kids markers, but yea, cheers!
hooray plus i have a weird imagination but it`s a 50/50 and safe
LOL
Hey do you have a video that tells us how you got that skull mask?
Lol it may have come up in a Q&A vid. But I got it from party city
It seems that the quality on these MP figures is starting to vary.Like starting with Optimus (MP 10) it felt like Takara stepped up their game but then Tracks came it felt like they were slacking and then Inferno came but it was like a 50/50,after that there's Megatron where it's like Takara really put effort.
i hear you
Well, said...my Ironhide will be in ALT mode on my shelf. For me, robot mode is a fail for me. Hope Fanstoys will come up with one.
+Famy Emil you and me both, or mt or mmx ox
Curious... do you think the side profile looks weird, esp the midsection?
+Jaraxel yes, just not as bad as the front view
Ah...
+THEWATCHERISLOOKING thanks man and i hope he gets a us release for you
Yup. I just added you on FB. hope you like my MMC Headstrong and Tantrum Homemade Stickers. its the way to go i think and fun to do.
I agree, that he has parts, that look weird. But it is the same with the Takara carbots, they have this kind of robotic proportions, that looks off. I think, that FT is currently doing a better job of creating figures, that have a more solid toon design like MP10.
+Tombstonecross i agree i just think these choices are a bit more... insulting maybe?
+Bobby „Skullface“ Skullface L they are, especially for the eye... :)
I'd say the squeaks, clicks, and chipped paint, actually fit his character.
lol
I dont mind the gut. Yes, that part of the van was different in the cartoon, but it doesnt bother me that much. What bothers me is that just behind it, it is narrower and it looks weird. Also (as I commented somewhere else) I remember hating the face when the first pictures appeared. Dunno if they changed it or it was just weird angles...
+sgecko7 well if you dont mind the look of the chest and gut, i highly recommend it
Why hasn't hasbro released any of these in the US?
+cnevarez4 probably license issues
I think if those hip panels could be modded to fill out the sides of his chest, and his pelvis was trimmed down he'd look the part. If I have to do extensive mods though I'll wait for a ko.
+GibDozer1 AMEN
I think the figure looks great. The robot mode breaks your normal robot design. It shows character. Funny how people's stereotypical views on what a "male" figure should be is the slim, wider chest than belly/waist look. I mean shoot, we all know the preferred girls look (Barbie). LOL But the tire butts do bother me. Thanks for Videos man. I always appreciate and watch them, agree or not. :)
+Sahlai Yang haha no worries man and im glad you enjoy him
Honestly, it looks good, quite passable. Although, which would you pick though, this, iGear, Maketoys, or TFC? They look great, but this one looks great. Just want an opinion of which is better. :p
+Smoke screen if maketoys made one id definitely be in for that
Sweet.
LOL! Ironhide's secret weapon, he throws his *face* at you!!!
;-)
lol
When I first started collecting 3rd party it was to supplement my classics collections eventually it turned into which official products make the cut to go with my 3rd party collection.
It's a shame but it seems like masterpiece is heading that way as well.
+blackrabbit1 i hear you man
Could they not of had the hip skirts cover the tyre butt?
probably
i agree with you besides the chest its a solid unit i thought i was the one who was iffy on it
+nachoprime 360 yep!
Catapult face steals the show. XD I think the chest never bothered me, but after your review...huh...wonder how much it´ll bother me once I apply the Shadow Fisher upgrades. Otherwise...I love this dude, he got me back into the TF game and INTO the new MP scale. I was mindblown by it.
well welcome back either way
i think it's a tossup between this and voodoo. the accessories for this one are just awesome. i think it's a win.
+Frank Marzegliano see, i think the best ironhide option has yet to be made lol
+Bobby “Skullface” Skullface L well i was commenting on the ones available as of today but i am inclined to agree
+Bobby “Skullface” Skullface L This MP Ironhide could be the starting point for an excellent "evolved" third party offering.
+Sportimus hahahaha
you got the Bad one I don't have problem on mine...
+Arcel DeGuzman its not qc, its design choices that i have issues with
Hip kibble is growing on me...still undecided on a purchase of this guy or TFC Ironhide...
+defstar this is beetter than that one for sure
I got him same day I got ToyWorlds Scavenger and Bonecrusher and he was less impressive compare to the 3rd party :/
I believe if they made the roof to come of and become the base that way they could have result a better robot mode.(believe some time "partsforming" can lead into a fantastic results)
Plush, Ratchet's roof did came of and became a medical base once in the early episodes I can not see why no improvise and make a battle station for Ironhide base on his G1 Toy :/
+TheForgotenStef30000 yea he certainly falls a bit short
Dear Uncle Skullface,
I think the reason his chest is so bothersome is:
A: Ironhide is supposed to be more of a beefy toughguy, and this shape is more reminiscent of Animated Ratchet (old, fat and saggy).
B: The shape hearkens back to generations Ironhide, which is still a sore spot for most of us....
+Rasmo 07 maybe so
