I was looking everywhere for someone to explain this I didn’t know if the dipstick would pop out or needed some kind of pressure to extract it but this guy exactly explains the how to 👍👍👍
Using a long drywall screw lije 3.5" with some JB WELD screw it some into to broken tip and let it harden. Pulls right out. You did a lot of extra work.
I did the same drill screw technique, however I hit the top of the tube with a torch to melt the plastic inside the tube. It pulled out with zero effort
This is only my second time coming across this issue. The first one came out easy. Next time, I will try your torch idea, Bow Tie guy 1981. I like the zero effort ideas!
It’s the 2nd one I have come across. 1st one I broke on wife’s Grand Caravan. I was shocked! That one was easy to get stick out. This one as you saw required a bit more doing. Still saved a bunch over the dealer doing it! Thanks for watching Pete!
I had the tube break down at the block, that was a lot of fun. Those were pressed into the block and I wasn't sure what else would work and found a aluminum one that was about right and filed it down till it would pound into the block after I managed to get the nub out. Drilling it worked for JT 😉
Had one break on our 2010 caravan. It came out easy. This one was a bit harder. I like how J.T. did one last week. I was not copying his idea. Recorded this video when I bought the car a couple months back. I was worried I might get junk into the motor if I drilled any further.
MARK, I got the same kind of ratcheting wrench, and I HATE IT!! I needed to buy one to replace one i broke, so we bought one like that. I didn't know it didn't lock into place like my others. When you were wiggling the dipstick tube, it reminded me that I ha to replace the one on the F150 we just did, MAN did it feel like I was wiggling and pulling FOREVER🤣 Those are times when you want to QUIT as a mechanic, LOL! Your outtakes prove just how much you care about getting good footage!
That wrench use to keep the angle you wanted. I can’t tighten it as the screw won’t turn. I might try to get warranty for it. And yes the dipstick tube fought me all the way to release from the pan. Thought it would come out easier. Trying to get as good a footage as I can as this stuff will be up on RUclips forever.
@@unclemarksdiyauto Ohhhhh, so that one does lock? I bought one that doesn't lock, LOL! Over the years we have actually deleted some videos because (to us) they weren't good enough quality, so I know EXACTLY what you mean!
@@OnlineAutoRepairVideos Yep, me not perfect, but trying to spend a bit more time to get some quality shots etc in the videos, since they get posted once. Lol. Sometimes though I am rushed cuz got to get it done!
My friend's 2009 Chrysler 300 granny owned and driven car 90K miles broke off and I did the screw trick..well it made the plastic expand and even harder to pull out!! So i had to use a crow bar with vice grips to hold the screw then leverage with the crow bar and Thank God it broke free!!!
Wow, yep they can be though to remove. This one was broken when I bought the car, but I did break off one on our Grand caravan. (Same dip stick & I was shocked when it snapped off!)
I broke one on the wife's van a while back, I think plastic handle got brittle. And this was pre broke! LOL! I imagine we will see more as vehicles get older.
Awesome, thank you! Everyone else just drills into it and put a screw in... Easy peezy. I have issues similar but different to you when mine keeps pushing down further and further. I'm going to remove the tube
Hope you gained some knowledge from my experience Patrick. So far it is holding! It was my first time using one of these. (I am sure it was very obvious) Take care!
That is a good question 58dorsett. I imagine they saved .00002 cents on each one by making it this way! LOL! Yep, splitting pennies! I had one break in my hands on our Grand Caravan, and this one was broken when I bought the car.
Thanks! Not sure how long the previous owners were driving it like this T G! At least now I can check it once and a while. Especially in winter here in central Manitoba Canada. Things can freeze up and then engines start consuming oil until the freezing condition changes.

Thanks, Tony! I was just figuring it out as I recorded it. (As you could tell) Glad it was a help.

Nice to see a simple repair being difficult which is my experience.

Why do they make dipsticks with plastic handles instead of an all metal dip stick like older vehicles have...makes no sense to me?

Nice work!
Thanks! You know one day this will happen to all of us now that everything is plastic!
Great job!

Good to know
just took a little time. With these plastic handles, you know one day it will happen to you too!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Can i thermal wrap the dipstick head so the plastics can last longer?
I am not sure that would work, but it might. There may be other issues with the wrap though.
@@unclemarksdiyauto thanks and i appreciate your reply..thanks again
