I recently read an article about how the original "Star Trek" was considering an episode on a planet where the racial roles were reversed. The actor who played Dr. McCoy, though Georgian, voiced support for the episode, requesting to play a major role.
I think I'm gonna look at "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" in a new light from now on...Woody Strode was a professional wrestler, but he was also a gentle, soft-spoken man; if Strode had been of a different temperament, Jimmy Stewart might not have been around to make that weak ass sitcom.
Keep in mind these people were products of their time. Not an excuse, but as a country we have evolved greatly since their generations. Fifty years from now I'm sure a great number of us will be judged by the standards of that time as well.
I grew up hearing the N word everyday from my parents, neighbors and anyone we would encounter during the day. I was raised racist and to admit it was wrong was to admit that our parents and people that we looked up to were wrong. Praise God The Lord not only showed me that they were wrong, but He Saved me and let me know He made and Loves All people.
Walter Brennan starred in a show named after a black man who invented and patented the best piston for running trains. Hence the term the "real McCoy", the real thing.
I knew about Walter Brennan from a family friend of my parents who worked in Hollywood back in the 1960's. Jimmy Stewart is a complete shock as well as William Frawley.
So sad; I'm sorry I had to stop watching Seinfeld reruns but now that I see the rerun of kramer's rant, it reinforces the need to stay away from that program.
Walter Brennan and William Frawley I didn't know about. The others I did. The fact that Walter Brennan literally danced in celebration of the announcement of MLK's death shows just how disgusting racism is.
I have a feeling that Disney hated Jews because he found out on day that he had some Jewish blood in him! A little surprised about John Wayne, but Walter Brennan was something else!
Who knew that 12 years later, a woman of Cree lineage won a Best Original Song Award--Miss Buffy Sainte-Marie (maybe I should say Dr. Buffy Sainte-Marie--she holds a Ph.D.).
I knew about Walter Brennan and John Wayne, but not about William Frawley and Jimmy Stewart. Mr. Stewart also had PTSD, which you can see in It's A Wonderful Life. As for Walt Disney, I wonder if he disliked Native Americans, given the musical number in Peter Pan, "What Makes the Red Man Red."
John Wayne starred in westerns with many African-American co-stars. How did those co-stars react to him? Was he respectful? I knew about the fight between Stewart and Fonda, but I didn’t know the extent of Stewart’s racism and that he worked with J. Edgar Hoover. This information has really sadden me.
It’s often said, “History will judge you.” I find that old maxim has been transformed into factual revisionism and the anachronism of judging others by today’s standards. While these people are undoubtedly racists, literally millions of others from the same time frames including most prominent democrats, actors, journalists, authors, visionaries and champions of major causes (such as Margaret Sanger) were at least as bad irrespective of the color of their skin, or the land of their ancestors. Sanger’s story converted me from being a lifelong democrat into a staunch independent.
I knew that Walt Disney was actually a racist but I didn't know that Jimmy Stewart, Walter Brennan, William Frawley, and John Wayne was actually racists as well. Good Riddance to bad rubbish.
Not shocked by any of the people on this list…William Frawley especially he was born in the 1800’s. Is racism wrong absolutely but judging people born in a different time who’s education and knowledge is severely limited and holding them to our standard is arrogant and elitist. Odds are in 135 years from now I’m sure people look back at our ideas and beliefs are back water and ignorant. So glass house and all that.
I'm not surprised by any of it
Wow….Jimmy Stewart is a real eye opener…
I’d be more surprised as to who wasn’t racist back then.
I recently read an article about how the original "Star Trek" was considering an episode on a planet where the racial roles were reversed. The actor who played Dr. McCoy, though Georgian, voiced support for the episode, requesting to play a major role.
WOW! , jimmy Stewart making the list definitely surprised me.
The Jimmy Stewart reveal hurt my heart. I'm not even going to lie.

Sorry to hear this about Jimmy Stewart, that's a shock. The others not so much.
I’m blown away about Walter Brennan’s and Jimmy Stewart’s extreme racist views.
Marlon Brando…thank you and Rest In Peace!
Not surprised by John Wayne
Public Enemy told us lol
Wow Jimmy Stuart was a surprise to me.
I'm shocked that Jimmy Stewart was such a racist! John Wayne and Walter Brennan I knew about - most especially Brennan!
Walter Brennan starred in a show named after a black man who invented and patented the best piston for running trains. Hence the term the "real McCoy", the real thing.
Good Riddance
Absolutely!!
Such very small minds......in every generation.
Oh, no! Not Jimmy Stewart.
I knew about Walter Brennan from a family friend of my parents who worked in Hollywood back in the 1960's. Jimmy Stewart is a complete shock as well as William Frawley.
I’m ashamed of anyone I admired acting in such stupidity
So sad; I'm sorry I had to stop watching Seinfeld reruns but now that I see the rerun of kramer's rant, it reinforces the need to stay away from that program.

Sad part is that the majority of them used the backs of others to further their careers.
They’re all dead, right? Champagne for everyone!
Not the least bit surprising and fairly normal for that era.
I wasn't surprised by John Wayne's racist comments and views..But William Frawley and Jimmy Stewart is quit surprising..
Wow can't trust anyone
I love John Wayne movie. But my cousin told me along time ago that he was racist.
And Jimmy Stewart love his movies too..
I don't understand the motive to hate someone you don't know? I just don't get hate.
I have a feeling that Disney hated Jews because he found out on day that he had some Jewish blood in him! A little surprised about John Wayne, but Walter Brennan was something else!
NOT surprised: KNEW Frawley and Demarest was as well as MOST of them, SMDH....
Who knew that 12 years later, a woman of Cree lineage won a Best Original Song Award--Miss Buffy Sainte-Marie (maybe I should say Dr. Buffy Sainte-Marie--she holds a Ph.D.).
Who’s honestly surprised 💀
Oh... thanks for enlightening me!

Never forget, it was an actor who shot Lincoln. Regarding Jimmy Stewart, he suffered from untreated PTSD, which would account for his rage issues.
Wow I had no idea that these people was racists.

In the end we all have our prejudice and or racism ways, if in life we can't cure it death will.
this is Great!
