    Keep learning
    Keep making friends
    Keep making mistakes

    JK Rolling

another wizard stole the wand, and slit the brother's throat
for good measure."

Pretty much the same background as you. Grew up at local kindergarten, primary and secondary. Was doing quite decently in the English subject at school but was never considered a top student. Got a ma ma dei band in IELTS. However, Few months after i moved to canada to study, i already managed to develop quite a perfect accent. I didnt push myself too hard in speaking English with the local people, i did it just out of curiosity, wanted to reach out and get to know more. And honestly, at the beginning it was quite embarrassing speaking English because my Canadian friends would laugh at me on my accent, mispronouncations and not knowing how to express myself. Now looking back, although it’s not any sort of big achievement, i’m able to converse with people from all around the world comfortably, with a near native accent. People would believe that i dont speak a single word of chinese/cantonese.
By the way Torres, i have been watching your videos since the past weekend, i like the content of your videos. Have been curious about where your aussie accent is from (quite exotic to my american accent ears). Thought that you had lived in australia.... or did you date a aussie gal? Pls tell us in future videos lol😜. Keep it up!

I think a better statement than "they won't judge us" is "we shouldn't care if they judge us." Unfortunately, not everyone is considerate of others' attempts and crave of improvement.
If they laugh at you, you take it with a grain of salt, maybe even crack a joke and laugh with them. That's my way to go about it.
The fact that your friends were all supportive means you found the right group of people/friends.

Agreed! In fact being laughed at when practising a language is part of the learning process. I also like the idea of using media of picking up authentic spoken language. Back in 80's what I did was watching Murphy Brown and the news every evening, penciling down all the authentic expressions heard from the episode and revisiting these things at later time. You can improve your accent and fluency by saying the lines again. IYS is another thing I was using to practise my written English by writing letters to pen pals in other countries. These thing may not help you earn a good grade in examinations but being proficient in languages is definitely an asset.

Very good advice. One other way to learn a new language is by singing. A most basic step to proper pronunciation is to learn how each vowel sounds.

Good points! At first I was struggling when I'm study abroad, that is very hard to open my mouth and speak with other people. I had no confidential and scared of making mistake but as you said the people who are native speaker they actually willing to teach you and help you how to phrase the sentence. Slowly you will get used to it through everyday copy and paste their conversation. And never even implant our language throught into a new language , last time I was always confused my friends.

Totally agree with you on the point that many people really dont understand the difference between language usage in exam and daily spoken language ! I'm also a tutor myself too , it's always hard to explain this to them. But just for one point that's different, when I learn Chinese (like written one ), i really used dictionary hahahaah!!
