- Today we had an unexpected visitor to the workshop, the 1974 Bolens HT20. Dad moved the tractor and while it was warming up it stalled. He was distracted and forgot to turn the ignition off which burned out the coil. Today we investigate why it stalled and replace the coil. It looks like it stalled due to a fuel issue.

You guys are professional repair technicians! Diagnostics, fixes, and video as well! Good job!
Thanks for the kind words. Take care
Great team work getting it running again! Having spares in this day and age is very smart. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks. We have some supply issues in this country at the moment and keeping spare parts can be very helpful. Take care
Great job on the HT20. You will have years of trouble free operation with the repairs you've made. Have a great week ahead Joseph.
Thanks 👍 We have done a lot of work on the HT20 and now it runs very well. Take care
Runs like a champ now!! Great job of diagnosing the issue...which to me is always the hard part. Tire tracks in the yard just mean progress in the shop!! Take care!
Thanks. We have spent quite a lot of time on this tractor in the past and it now runs very smoothly. Take care
Great Video. I did the same thing once and ever since have always installed a Light to show me the Juice is Flowing.
Thanks. Great idea with the light. Take care
That tractor seems to run well, Joseph. I got a car running once with a dead battery. I planned to let it run for about 10 minutes to charge the battery. I forgot about it. It idled for about 4 hours. Fortunately, there was no damage! Thanks for sharing. - Rick
Thanks. This tractor runs very smoothly now. Your car must have been in good condition to stay running for 4 hours, and a fully charged battery lol. Take care
Hi Joseph, I had no idea that leaving the key on would do that. Adding the primer bulb was pretty smart! You're doing a great job with these videos!
Thanks for the kind words. We copied the primer bulb idea from a friend and it works really well on these tractors as the fuel pump is higher than the fuel tank. Take care
Hello Joseph,
Nice work on getting the HT20 back up and running... the lights worked very well on the test drive... See you next week...
Take care.
Paul,,
Thanks 👍 Getting the HT20 working was critical for our winter plans. The LEDs are a great upgrade. Take care
Thanks for sharing this very beautiful video 😊
Thanks for visiting
I see! You have no problems with it and it run fine. It's Dad! That's It Dad's grounded from the tractors!! LOL Glad y'all had the extra parts to get it back up and running. Have a good week! See ya!
Thanks 👍 Not sure who said dad could drive it anyway :-). Keeping stock of parts is very handy. Take care
Good evening Joseph 😉👍👌 Ho boy, your dad is due for potatoes peeling duty at the kitchen 🤣👍 Yes having spares consumable in house is outstanding 👍😉👌 Great cold tractor start up 👌😉👍 Great tractor test run and the lights are very good 🧐👍 Ho boy, tyres marks on the green will bring your mom to unhappiness 🤣👌👍 Great video Joseph crew and best luck for the potatoes peeling duty for the burn coil and the marks on the green 🤣👍👌 Cheers 🍻
Thanks 👍 We have some supply issues in this country so we like to keep stock of parts that are important. Don't think mum noticed the tyre marks... yet lol. Take care
@@GardenTractorBoy 🤣🤣🤣👌😇👍🍻
it is nice work and good for share
Thank you! Cheers!
Joseph, you have nearly a full time job just fixing what your cameraman breaks! 😂 Good fix and test run. The problem with good led lights, you don’t have a reason to quit when it gets dark 😜
Thanks 👍 Good point about the LED lights, but I think they are great. Dad has had a verbal warning :-) Take care
How did I miss this video 🤦🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️😂. I just love the sound of your tractors, great job Joseph, now Iain don’t do that again 😉😂😂. Have a great weekend 🙂🙋🏼♂️👍🏻
The Kohler twin's in our big Bolens do sound really good. I don't think dad will do it again given the cost of the replacement coil LOL. Take care
So cool movie💕 Fantastic♪🌼 Have a nice day♪✨
Thank you! You too!
Awesome video and good sharing my friend again 😀😀
Thank you 👍
Pretty cool idea with the big primer bulb. I haven't seen many of those on gt's. The LED lights look nice with crisp light. Great video!
Thanks. The primer works well to keep the load off the starter motor. We now have the LED lights on 2 tractors and it makes a large improvement. Take care
Never seen 1 of those priming bulbs before...that could come in handy at times, gotta remember that
On that tractor the fuel pump is above the tank outlet, so having the primer stops the starter motor from having to turn the engine over so much before the fuel gets through. With the primer bulb the tractor starts first time.Take care
Nice Tractor
Thanks 👍 We have a lot of time on it and it now works well. Take care
On the 2cv tractor i fitted a little 12 volt buzzer in the oil light circuit so that if you leave the ignition on or lose oil pressure the buzzer sounds1
Phil
Smart !
That sounds like a fantastic idea, we will probably steal that idea in future. Take care
Nice that with the number of wheelhorses you have that you try to keep stock on the more frequently needed or common consumables. Running like a champ again !
Thanks. With some supply problems in the UK, having spare stock is even more helpful than usual. Take care
@@GardenTractorBoy- The supply problems are everywhere...
Fixed that one up nicely Joseph and Dad :) will be nice to see some grass and greenery around here in a few months.
Thanks. We would like some snow over here soon, can you throw some over? Take care
@@GardenTractorBoy I think I have a good throwing arm.. but that might e a bit too far to throw :)
@@RossOnTheLand LOL
Hello GTB. Great idea with the primer👍 WOW that cool really had a meltdown 😀 She runs great my friend
Thank you 🤗 We have spent a lot of time on this tractor and it runs great. Take care
I learned something, I didn't know that leaving the key on would burn up the coil on these tractors, I know with the older cars with points, if you left the ignition in the on position and the points happened to be closed it would most likely burn the points and possibly burn the coil as well.
I am unsure if the points were open or closed. In our experience, the coils on these Kohler twins are a bit fragile anyway. I think we have replaced the coil at least once in all our Kohler twins now. Take care
Great video, glad you got it sorted
Thanks. We are pleased that it was an easy fix. Take care
amazing work, thanks for sharing
Thank you! Cheers!
Great job on fixing the tractor Joseph, I wouldn't let dad drive it for a while if he is just going to break it, lol. Have a good night.
Thanks. Not sure who said dad could drive it in the first place :-) Take care
@@GardenTractorBoy lol
I bet the check valve stuck on the primer bulb. As for the coil issue, My Roper uses a points and coil set up also. I added a small switch on the coil wire mainly to prevent theft while at Shows. This would also work to prevent coil melt downs. Down side, I often forget to turn the switch on. My Craftsman's use magnetos so leaving the key on doesn't affect them. Always nice to have spare parts.
Thanks, you're probably right with the check valve. We have watched your video about the small switch, seems like a good idea. Take care
Awesome
Thank you very much
How's she goin'? Nice repairs here Joseph. Nice explanation too of what was going on. The primer bulb must have been stopped up somehow eh!!! I wouldn't be too hard on Dad though, after all he did have the spare parts needed for fixing the coil and primer. Dad's are pretty handy to have around you know!!! And your Mom will know there are marks on the lawn even in the dark. Don't ask me how I know, Mom's just know things like that!!! Thanks for sharing and take care!!
Thanks. My mum watches my videos anyway so she will find out eventually. We have plans for this tractor over winter so I'm glad we got it fixed. Take care
Nice fix on the Bolens. You can blame it on the primer bulb for failing.
Thanks, it was great to get to the bottom of the problem and it was an easy fix. Take care
Hello Joseph another great video do let dad near the tractor again get him to stick to camera work.
Thanks 👍 I don't know who said dad could drive it in the first place lol. Take care
Hello there! A great fix, It's great to have spare parts laying around. Maybe your dad did this on purpose to get some good content for a new video. Lol, I don't want to be you when your mom finds the tracks. Take care
Thanks. Sometimes it can takes weeks to get parts, so not having spare parts would mean that our winter plans for this tractor would be delayed. Take care
