Same, 42 here. He and his music means so much to me. He's the master (or Maestro) of making you feel every emotion. I love a lot of other film composers, but none of their music quite makes me feel the way I do with John's music. He will forever be my favorite.
He wrote the soundtrack of my childhood. We were blessed! He made the good times even more joyous and lightened up the bad ones. Thank you for the music!
Lets hope and pray that John williams will be like Yoda and live for many many years to come bringing us more great heartfelt music like this, not that John williams will see this but if he I thank you for all the great enjoyment you have brought to my life through your mastery of writting the greatest music to ever grace our minds aswell as ears.
Those first two notes of the main theme (fifth note of the key, up to the third note of the key above it - or the tenth if you prefer - over the tonic major chord) must be something Williams associates with romantic heroines. Leia’s theme, the Han/Leia love theme, and Marion’s theme from Raiders of the Lost Ark ALL begin the same way.
Both those pieces are lovely. The Han/Leia music is one of the themes I think is a bit underrated in Star Wars music. I think it should be as iconic as the main theme or the imperial March or the Force theme, I think it’s absolutely beautiful and epic.
@@tayo_95 To be clear, I’m talking in each case about the theme proper, not the intro. The first note is the fifth scale degree, the second note is the tenth (or third in the higher octave). The interval *between* those two notes is a sixth (not an augmented sixth), but it’s the relationship to the tonic that is most significant.
Yeah those major 6ths are one of his trademarks for love themes. Also in Superman he uses them. And for harmony he likes using the 1st scale degree chord and a minor 4th. We can also see this in Stargate (David Arnold).
Beautiful and masterfully done, as always, by the great John Williams. I can't wait to hear this combined with the onscreen action. Thank you, Sir, for the preview! You will always be my absolute favorite!
Definitely has Rosza, Waxman, Steiner and a bit of Elmer Bernstein, you don't hear music like this in modern movies anymore. The orchestrations are so lush and the flute has become a staple of any John Williams love theme
Yes, it's very vintage sounding, like something out of the 30s-50s era. I've noticed Williams' latter scores sounding more old-fashioned over the last decade or so. It's seems he's returning to the roots in the latter days of his career.
100% that’s what I thought too. It harkens back to the Golden Age of Hollywood. I actually thought this was the direction he was going to go with The Fablemans.
John Williams always tells a story with his music. I felt impossible love story or a disappointment story with this theme. On the other hand, I'm so sorry that this is farewell music to John Williams.❤❤❤❤😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
May God please bless this good man. He has given us much in the way of music and it keeps giving. John Williams is indeed a National Treasure as William said.
I wish I could see him at the Hollywood bowl or in Tanglewood once. The theme sounds really lovely, reminds me Sabrina a bit. Cant wait for the soundtrack.
Well he plays at the hollywood bowl every year around september so you still have a couple years chance to go see him. He doesnt conduct as much as he used to at the shows though. He does a few songs himself when just a few years ago hed do half of the show himself, first half is now always handled by a different conductor
The only ones who can complain about this are those brainwashed by the assembly line technique of scoring with the monotonous, D-minor ostinatos and "ping & BWAAAM" syndrome.
I'm gonna miss John Williams and Harrison Ford! 😭 If they both died, I'm giving thanks to John for making great music for movies that people love such as Star Wars, E.T., Jurassic Park (I'm not including World because there's another music composer), Harry Potter, and the list goes on and on! For Harrison Ford, I want to thank him for making Star Wars happen by being Han Solo! I never watch Indiana Jones movies, but i felt like Star Wars is more popular than Indiana Jones!
@@bungobaggins01 I didn’t. I was also thinking about why Marion feels so different for me. I am still thinking. Maybe just more familiar but The first differences I noticed is that Marion’s theme starts more Melodic right away. The first tones are already the melodie, similar to Leia‘s theme. This takes more time to developer. More the John Williams style later on.
@@Kasino80 I was thinking about the book thief and stuff like that. For me, the John Williams style changed a bit after “indy three until the lost world”. There was a transition. I don't mean that negatively. I liked Reys theme for example. But I miss also the more clear themes like that and especially in action themes. Something like asteroid field etc. But he stays the master of classic scores. My favourite.
A beautiful piece, but I'm missing some...punch or intrigue. But perhaps in the mix of the rest of the score it will stand out. It felt a bit meandering and unfocused.
that's exactly what I thought as well. I was waiting for it to really get going and it just... didn't. a forgettable score for a forgettable movie, no doubt.
I used to do regular concerts at the Hollywood Bowl. You might the crickets would be a negative, but they actually adds something magical to the event. When you sit right at the back (the acoustics are amazing), with the crazy neon lit cross on the mountain in the background, it's sort of like the end of Close Encounters. It's a great place to hear music.
Why is it that so many composers have the first violin section doubling wind solos or soli’s? The strings completely drown out the soloists. Notable examples that pop in my mind from the classical repertoire are Beethoven 6, Brahms 3, and Heldenleben (although it was the cellos that drown out the horns in that piece).
It's all about voicing. In a studio or in the composers heads, it allows the voices to be heard. In concert, that subtlety is often lost. We instead still get a nice full sound, with woodwind bringing warmth to the violin section.
Imagine if Hans Zimmer did the Indy Jones soundtrack---if that ever came about, it would make Crystal Skull seem like a masterpiece; only Jonny knows what he's doing in Indy's world.
I like both for different reason but for Indiana Jones Williams is a better fit. Since the film is based on the old school tv shows the music should also be reference of that time period/style. Zimmer is too modern.
@@StopmotionStudios13 I don't count minimalism as modern, not for the past 30 years where Phillip Glass has made acareer out of it, though he likes music in his music. Sorry, Zimmer is just a series of sound effects to me
