For those asking: Jack got his 10th dan at 97 in 2020. Jack is still in the dojo, at 100 years old, and is officially the oldest judo teacher in the world❤️
I turn 50 in a few months. I go for my first Green next month. I started for health reason and to keep active. I have truly fallen in love with this sport.
If he's in his 90's and he is still out moving around like that, then you know his technique is flawless. My sensei is a 7th dan and we're just as proud of him! Judo really is a great sport and way of life.
When I was in the Coast Guard and stationed on Kodiak island, Alaska, there was a very old man who taught judo there. His name was Corky McFarland. He may have looked old, but he was fit, spry, and very much energetic and alive. Super inspiring.
Update on Jack: _”September 26 marked the 10th anniversary of his 9th Dan and he was then contacted by Judo officials to tell him he was to receive his 10th Dan and an informal presentation took place at his Northumberland home. A grander presentation is planned in London but due to Covid-19 restrictions that has been put on hold.”_
Do you know how things progressed by now ? I he still in good health ? I'm curious after having seen this video. I'm in my 50thies, but feel like a young guy after watching this ! ;)
Stephanie Wentz - My Grandad served in WW2. He was a flight sergeant in the RAF who was a rear Gunner in the Wellington and Lancaster Bombers. He died at 57. He would've been 98 if he was still alive. Him and his crew were coming back with a damaged Lancaster Bomber, they crash landed on the runway somewhere up in Scotland. The tail of the plane snapped off with him in it where he received bad injuries and the rest of the crew/friends died. I think that crash took a lot out of him and he was never completely the same. He became a draftsman where he helped design the Super Sonic Concorde. I never got to meet my Grandad, I'm happy you have yours. Thank your Grandad for his service from Me.✌️
@@michellew2379 lol good age you wint get that injured starting early is the best way by the time your 18 you will grow and have very good technique but when you start later like me youbget injured alot
LoL Exactly. I'm 33 and have no left shoulder from years of baseball (Pitcher) and boxing. I couldn't imagine practicing Judo as hard as that is on ones body & joints at age 94. The man was even practicing flips, i'd be afraid my weight would hurt the man. His story is very inspiring, I think we all would love to look as good as he does at age 94.
Sensai Jack you are an inspiration to me and many. My grandma was 103 when she passed but man she enjoyed her life. I’m just getting outta bed and saw your video. This will be my best day ever cause of you. Peace and Respect....
Judo is the reason why this wonderful man is not in a box. I trained for a few years, then had a few years off. When I returned my Sensei said "Good move coming back to training, it will add years to your life."
I'm doing now for 5 years Ju-Jitsu but I have a physical disability ( knock-knees) - lately did the green belt exams and passed. Then a friend of me (also from Ju-Jitsu) came to me and said "Thank you for teaching me." And I was really confused about that asked like "Teaching what?" "Teaching me, that even when you have physical or even mental problems, if you work hard enough, you can overpass this." That was such a wonderful expirience for me and almost brought me to tears...
Hearn, Shihan I send my respect for you! I have been teaching Jujutsu for 40 years and I hope to still be teaching if I live to be your age 94 ! It is a joy to see this video !!
I feel the key of his amazing health is that he is doing an activity passionately and hence living a happy and fulfilling life. Love you. It is inspiring ,❤️ Find your passion in life
just wow man the last sentence was the best " get of your butt and do something useful " and he looks like 67 in comparison to other older people lol reminds me of helio gracie
I love how he said judo is more than just a sport, it is a way of life. I used to work at a martial arts academy that wanted to make their own curriculum of martial arts. The teachers were very knowledgeable however I felt that they lacked heart. I’ve been doing martial arts for 15 years and I’ve been around the block with many martial arts and every teacher had heart (yes I understand that some people depend on martial arts as a source of income). The people I worked with viewed martial arts as a product that can be bought and sold. My friend didn’t join the school because he though they were just trying to sell him the martial art and that they had no passion for it. My boss even told me to do body building to look more professional, despite me doing six martial arts and having a black belt. Martial arts is more than just a sport, it is a way of life both physically and mentally. And I hope that I look as good as this guy when I’m 94... if I make it lol
Major RESPECT for you Sir, there's never been a man on either side of my family who lived past 62. I'm 62, and although my spine has been fractured twice, I will be attempting a little comeback to Powerlifting hopefully early next year. More than likely just the BENCHPRESS, but competition just the same. I can honestly say that the years of Martial Arts Training I had in my twenties, were a major factor in my SURVIVING the first accident, as well as my general health to this day. My spine as a EXCEPTION to the rule, as they say. I totally ENVY AND RESPECT YOU Sir, you are TRUE INSPIRATION !!!
Well in a irl situation I would much rather use a sword than martial arts and he probably has it because since he is a red belt he has had to study Japanese martial art history for a long time, it could be a replica of a valuable sword
I learned judo from Jack at Concordia in Cramlington in the mid 80's when he was only a 6th dan, he is one of the few people who truly contributed to who am now as an adult. I hope he gets his 10th dan. Thank you, Jack.
As someone who does Seibukan Jujutsu (it's a martial art as well), I can tell you that this dude is AMAZING. I don't do Judo but just imagining all the things we do in Seibukan Jujutsu being done by this dude is EPIC.
I'm not surprised if this man is 94 years old because the oldest woman in history of judo, keiko fukuda (12 April 1913 - 9 February 2013) was 99 years old received her 9th Dan in 2006, and later her 10th Dan in 2011. She teaches judo until her death in 2013. This is a great motivation for me to keep on training although I'm currently a white belt in Judo.
I remember when I went to my family when I was a baby and I was growing up my grandpa told me that he would have talked to me Saturday for British Judo and he was practicing and practicing and you know certain times like that I hope it and make something for us in my dream is doing the sport to me it means everything I'm going to give everything my whole life and I hope I get it thank you
God is good indeed! Except for the hungry, ebola and cancer infested children dying in poor countries. But hey, he may help you to get to 95 and still kick ass !
I am 29 and i am tired of this bullshit..... I envy this man he found something that brings him happiness. i wish i found something that inspire me that much.
Finding something that truly interests you is difficult, just keep an open mind and persevere. The first couple of months of any new hobby/sport is difficult. It’s only when you fail at something and there’s a desire in you to do better that you realise you actually haven’t failed at all.
My judo teacher past away 4-5 years ago and he was 90 years of age and the highest ranking in the U.K. RIP Willy Shields

Rejean Nowlan nope ur just colorblind lmfao
@Rejean Nowlan if he was orange after 67 years, I wouldn't think he would be teaching others..
@Rejean Nowlan some people who have a high dan in judo still use a black belt, my sensei doesn't use his white-red belt..
Faded red. Must of had that belt for well over 20years.
I know in bjj there's less than 10 red belts is that the same in judo
