ABOUT THIS VIDEO: This past weekend, I took my parents who are visiting me in Japan on a day trip to Odaiba; an awesome shopping and recreation area in Tokyo Bay.
There is a free museum called MEGAWEB Tokyo City that is a must visit for car fans since there’s a lot to see, and the life sized Gundam is standing right outside.
The star of this video is probably the 220D; the ultra rare, never publically released rally version of the Fiest gen MR2. This thing is a beast of a machine with I think around 500HP in a tiny body.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this short video which I again edited on my iPhone on the way to work. I think the next video is going to be the one you’ve all been waiting for, so get excited!
********* MESSAGE TO NEW VIEWERS ********* Hey there, If this is your first time on my channel, then I want to thank you for clicking this video and giving my work a chance. I’m Albo and I'm making a documentary series about the real life equivalent of the anime Initial D; real street racing and drifting in and around Gunma, Japan. Here`s the first ep: www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6DQW...
********* THANKS FOR WATCHING ********* Okay, that's it! A huge thank you for watching and supporting my channel. You guys rock and I really appreciate your comments. BANANA! Авто/Мото
My jaw dropped when I saw the TS010, TS020 GT-One, and TS030 all together in the same room
Mikey T yep, just in time for lemans
There are a lot of reasons why they made smaller cars at different times and in different parts of the world, it isn't because people were smaller in 1965 when the Toyota 800 came out. In the US you had 20 foot long Lincolns and Cadillacs rolling down the line, while in post-war Italy the Fiat 500 was being sold with a cloth "convertible roof" because cloth was cheaper than steel. Economics and resources are what drove many post-war countries auto industries. Just as the Mini was launched in the UK as a response to the Suez Canel Crisis causing oil prices to skyrocket in Europe.
This is why in post-war Japan, the Kei-car was created, they needed low cost, fuel efficacy, and vehicles for the masses. The Toyota 800 was not a Kei-car, but it was in line with Toyotas cars of the day, the original Corona was a tiny sedan with a 1.0-liter engine in 1960, the Crown's largest engine was a 1.8-liter. With Honda launching the S600, Toyota needed it's own sports car and the Toyota 800 came out, looked amazing, and still got 70mpg.
Great explanation! I was actually joking but I guess it didn’t come across correctly haha
Ahhhh ok. Awesome video, by the way, I have been to the Nissan Heritage Garage, and the Toyota USA Museum but I need to visit this one on my next trip to Japan.
70mpg!? My wallet would appreciate that.
790cc air-cooled engine and they used lots of aluminum getting the total weight 1,279lbs. The Modern Honda S660 gets a combined 50mpg, you just have to like having a tiny car.
I'm fine with tiny cars as long as I can fit. Funny thing is the GT86/BRZ doesn't even have as much aluminium as its ancestor, the Sports 800.
those engines though, i love the 4age, love it to death.
Nice! The engineer of the 222D was my AW11´s previous owner!
I'm late but tell me about that!
I bought his white 1985 MR2 in 1997 and drove it until last year, (every day except in winters) , there´s a video of one of the last rides on my channel. Now it´s parked where I work, because I needed a Prius for practical reasons (we have two children).
We´re in Germany. He just told me how he flew to Japan and discussed
the powertrain layout of the 222D with Eiji Toyoda! (in 1985)
MegaWeb was one of the coolest parts about my trip to Japan! Checking out the Nissan factory was AMAZING as well!
That Cosmos
that is very true , my friend lives in England and he said he has to duck or walk hunched over in some of the oldest pubs. even older stuff has doors that are barley 5 feet.
just came across your channel. i absolutely love it. what you’re doing here is amazing. most interesting stuff i’ve seen in a long while.
thank you
Interesting to see the actual Celica GT4 ST185 that has the battle scars and signs it had flipped over.
Also that MR2 is based on the AW11 and has stupid horsepower for group B rally. But didnt made to the actual rally stage since Group B was banned for being too dangerous.
Yokohama Nismo showroom should be on your next list of places to visit.
They got the R34 Z Tune on display along with all the LeManns race car and Super GT series Nismo factory cars. And drool at the RB26s on sale.
Lin Chester your on point with your facts
Also, on the point where a comment is made about how cars used to be smaller because people were shorter, the increase in size in modern cars has come about just as much because of people wanting/needing more space as for the need to make crumple zones to meet higher ratings in NCAP safety tests, I would assume... Crumple zones, airbags, as well as the need to have more creature comforts in cars in general have all made cars larger.
frankgile1996 yes general average height of adults male and female was around 1.65 to 1.7m for males and 1.5 to 1.55 for females.
Fast forward today and we seen guys getting closer to 1.8 and females over 1.7m
Legroom and headroom is much needed. Also as the income grew over time. We want more creature comforts and safety in the car we buy. No longer the car is a nice to have item but rather a must have in Asian families.
Lin Chester actually, the MR2 was made to race in the never born Group S class, an even crazier category which was planned to substitute Group B. other manufacturers got involved with Group S prototypes, such as Audi, with an endurance racer-looking odd car, and Peugeot, with the Quasar
Lore Heh good to know
I love megaweb the history museum is a great break for people who have had enough of the shopping madness
Very nice museum, definitely gonna check it out when I visit my cousin there.
This looks so awesome. I'd love to go if I ever get to visit Japan.
Toyota has a special place in my heart.
I'm so happy there's an st165 in there
Used to see that Two in magazines. Nice!
That yellow S800 was lovely.
Wow, some really cool oddball cars in there too!!
I went there the one time I visited Tokyo! As a Toyota enthusiast(or even just a car enthusiast), it’s an awesome museum for sure. The gift shop has a ton of great stuff as well. Also, Super Autobacs is only one or two train stations away.
I missed so much of it when I was there last. Oops. Still was cool to see the ft-86 2 concept in person. Thanks for sharing!
Finally they moved its location. When I visited in January they had the MR2 parked pretty much behind a building support girder making any photo pretty crap. Loved the video Albo agaib
Dude I went there back in March of 2018 truly one thing to see it on camera but to see it in person was just amazing!
That Cosmo was so clean
Love Mega Web and Odaiba man. Cool videos bro. I’m living in Japan as well. Got a JZX100 Chaser, but haven’t done any drifts.
Cars of the future look terrible
They do. They look different just for the sake of being different.
Jonathan Doe exactly, if they looked more like an s14 the I would buy one.
future cars makes prius looks cool compared to it
japan is so trusting, in any other country the cars would be out of reach where nobody can touch them
That celica gt4 thoooo 😍😍😍 So many great cars in this video!
Wow, cool!
Love it!
Your mom's the kind of cultured woman who simply belongs behind the wheel of a classic convertible!
ooohhhh yeaaaa another upload! • w •
My first car was a 87 MR2, I wish they would bring it back so much. Fun fact, MR2 stands for
Mid Engine
Rear Wheel Drive
2 Seater
been there. Its awesome!
wholesome content
I was there at the Mega Web but for a concert LOL.
Behind the Mega Web where you can find Odaiba's giant ferris wheel. Under the ferris wheel is a concert hall, Zepp Tokyo.
I stumbled on this museum during my tokyo trip and was amazed. Had no idea what the building was just walked in. And damn was not expecting this lol
MR2 is the literally "cheap countach with more countersteer" and i love it
dedly kuin more like poor man's Ferrari. The SW20 literally was, let's say, "heavily inspired" by Ferraris of the time lol
Oh man... I hope one day i can going there....
Your parents love cars too🤗
That 1st gen TRD wide body MR2 is my third tier pick for toyota (drools) just behind the 3rd gen group B rally celica and the 2000GT (which I cant pick between)
Kababayan, it's nice to see content like yours on RUclips.
Thanks pare
Wish I would’ve known about it when I was in odiaba . Damn Tokyo guide book lol
*Best fucking museum in the world*
That illiminate hat thoughh.
MR2’s greatest enemies are Snapping,Leaves, and people who have Fujiwara as their surname
Are you kidding me. There was a car museum just by that giant gundam !? I totally missed it LOL. But man is that gundam impressive
Has anyone heard updates on the mc8 ? Cool museum !
Celica, my dream car as well (but I can't justify the cost)
You should make a facebook page were the car meets and races are gonna be in Japan ....

Who saw 1:47 the Isetta?
This place has change so much since the last time I went there, at least 5 years ago. Do they display all Toyota sports cars?
I just realized you're family's filipino.

🍌🍌🍌🍌 That Cosmo is so clean
I was more interested in the ST-185 that was driven by Juha Kankkunen
Really cool , but where is dA tofu car
Takumi Walker that’s exactly what I thought too
the car elevator shoots outside the showroom and there's a levin at the top if i remember correctly
@DriftHunterAlbo make sure you go to the Initial D ride in Joypolis since your already in Odaiba
The mr2 has the engine of my dads car twin cam 16
Most people see my 95 Corolla and laugh, but the 7a-fe under the hood is the same as was implemented in the celicas they want so bad
222d is great, such a cool car
I wish group S wasnt canceled but it would have been more dangerous than group B
rip
4:08 I WANT THESE! >.
where is the initial d inspired cars :( great video man
The 1986 convertible MR2 is actually the rarest MR2. Only 3 were produced. Just throwing that out there
Greatings from Germany in Cologne or in German Köln there ist a museum but i am thinking its only For Toyota staff ans i Hope you know it the Rally section of Toyota is in Cologne (Sorry For my Bad English)
Takumi interview
i think that white 222d was the group s version that was never completed, i wonder where the black group b version is nowadays, and the mc8
The white ones were 2wd and developed for tarmac rallies. Three blacks exist but only one runs.
The rest were crushed by toyota. The ones around now were SUPPOSED to be crushed with thrm.
SONG AT THE END ???
Saw 222D Group S Prototype MR2. Hit like before even watching the video.
I love Japan...the culture, and the great people..
😍😍😍😍
Lol your dads repping Illiminate
I'm sure the Sard mc8 is the rarest Mr2
lemans sw20
Toyota have turned into a family centric brand, it sad
Hello
So much for not touching
Did you asked your father "when were you in Saudi, were these were famous?"
If that's correct, why he was there?
As I'm a Saudi living in Riyadh
Um.... the title makes me think there'd be more than a 9 second shot of the car.
Is your mom filipino?
"The reasons cars from this generation are so much smaller is because *humans were physically smaller 60 years ago.* " Forgive my sceptisism, but where did you get that information from? There are lots of huge cars from that era too. Japanese cars tend to be small by necessity, since Japan has lots of tiny crowded streets. Also, back then you didn't need a whole lot in terms of safety, electronics, fancy chassis design or other feature that take up space -- hence the cars are smaller.
I should have been less straight faced because I fully intended that to be a joke ahah
Haha omg :D Nice deadpan bro
Filipino kaba ?
Question out of curiousity what nationality are you??
Filipino
+Quan Li
This isn't the most rare MR2 that would be the Toyota mc8r road car and there is only 1
Is it true that Japanese people are really proud of Toyota and Lexus or do they like more German cars ?
nono_miata I mean why wouldn't they be? They make great cars
They misspelled MegaWeeb
Lmao
Milfhunter albo
Is your mom philipino?
Forget about the cars let's just take a moment to look at that SAVAGE illiminate hat
You SAW the rarest MR2, not found.
Was it the one they cheated with the turbo?
nope.....this one is the st185 which has the pop-up headlights , the car you're talking about was the st205
