Holy moly! What an awesome restoration. I’m impressed with the detailed work. This definitely is not something that gets done in one weekend. Great video!
This is, without a doubt, the BEST AW11 Mk1 MR2 content on RUclips as of this writing. I mean it. From the outstanding edit to the actual content, this video gives the viewer a real idea of what makes up a Mk1 MR2. From the guts of it to the way it drives. I am so impressed by this effort and hope you hold onto this car as it will never find a better owner. For reference, I have owned 7 Aw11 Mk1 MR2's including my current mint Super Red 88' Supercharged with optional leather interior. No car I have ever experienced offers the visceral driving experience that the first gen MR2 did. The view forward is unlike any other car and allows the driver to place the car exactly where they want it... every... single... time. You really get that vibe from this video.
amazing job on an amazing car. always have so much respect for the guys that pull these cars off the scrapheap and give them a brand new lease of life. i had an AW11 way back and you have given me the feels to get another!! nothing like the 4AGE hitting the limiter always put a smile on my face 😁😁👌👌🙌🙌
incredible to see so much detail work...and so fast. I'm so old...everything takes longer. I have 2 AW11s waiting for me, with a 20-Valve Silvertop and a 1mzfe.
Excellent work vlogging your restoration. We tackled a similar project a few years ago, using 3 parts cars in various condition managed to make one really nice MK1a (and help out a lot of other enthusiasts with the spare parts). Haven't driven it too much but planning on hitting a MR2 specific car meet in New Jersey next week. Been looking up videos to get me stoked for the drive. Anyway, just want to say, see if can source the original intake box or at least run some duct work to get cold air from the bottom of the engine bay. The air that passes upward through the vents is very hot from the exhaust header.
I had a Mk1 MR2, and had many, many enjoyable miles from her. In fact, I only sold the car, because I became a wheelchair user, and so could not use the car anymore. Very sad day, when I had to sell.
Nice. That's a substantial amount of work. Most people would give up! I just got a red 1989. I didn't have to do as much restoration but it looks like brand new now. Ok, 8 or 9 years old. Gonna need an engine reconditioning soon. Bunch of carbon deposits inside the engine. Runs good though.
Brilliant video and great project well done mate. I just moved in to a new house and across the road is a deralict house with the same colour and year mr2 parked down the driveway, it's been parked up there for 4 years and looks pretty rough, i'm trying to track down the owner to convince them to sell it to me so i can restore it :)
Can you tell me where to get engine rebuild parts? There's kits on ebay but am not sure if there any good. What about crank shaft and cams? Did you replace? I have an 85 that needs a engine part rebuild or full i won't know until its taken apart. Any advise would be helpful. Beautiful job you did on yours, i love the colour.
I usually find everything second hand and on forums, I’d try to go oem as much as possible if you have to rebuild. Some people still have that stuff laying around
Beautiful car, amazing work, great video. Had an '87 with t-tops about 17 years ago. Never should have sold it. What steering wheel did you mount (Luganza)? It really fits the style well.
beautiful restoration ! - what wheels are those and what are the specs if you don't mind me asking? also wasn't sure if you had coilovers or stock suspension
Awesome! Always interested in seeing AW11 videos, didn't realize the car was that bad off at the start. Is the build finished for now or are more things to come in the future?
So it varies, we for the chassis for 500 dollars and did all the work ourselves. But we’re probably in about 5k ish I’d say. But it has itbs and coilovers and everything now. Parts have to come from other local mr2 people or twosrus
@@NostalgiaHeroDriving very nice. Luckily my car was an automatic before someone converted it to a manual and they left the automatic bracket on. I had to buy a Lokar cable end though. That's about it.
❤❤ dude, Ive got 2 of these I got as a gift that I want to fix, but my buddy has then at his parents who want to get us to get rid of them. Any chance you want to do this again? Id be happy to give you one as payment for the other!

Loved that bit of Barry Leitch on the cassette deck at the end there! Terrific rebuild video.

This is a big compliment. Thanks so much 🫡
Wow! Pleasure to watch such care and attention
This was amazing. Love the gen 1 MR2’s. Great job saving this one!
Love the colour you put in it. In love with this car since saw it in 1984
Wow look at all that hard work!
Couldn’t have done it without you
Great restoration!!

Thanks man much appreciated! We’ve put another ton of work into the car after this video, and it’s come even further.
Inspired me to start dollin my ole girl up.
Having an MR2 as my first project car and the video's really inspiring and eye opening.
Thank you for putting this together.
Awesome first project to have. One of the coolest cars out there in my opinion. I wish you luck on your build!
Amazing! You guys had given a second life to this unique car!
I owned 3 of those at different times. I wish I'd kept one. Thanks for posting. Fantastic job.
Appreciate it 👍
Wow man nice video camera look like 2000s recorder. 😎🎥🎞🎧
Wowww! The Mr2 looks amazing! Great video too!

Fantastic work! Your MR2 is gorgeous and it was a pleasure seeing it at this past PNW show
Appreciate it! I’m hoping to go to radwood every year from this point forward. Hopefully more goodies will be done by then
Awesome rebuild !!! Great job saving this from the scrap pile graveyard.
Nice job
The Misato MR2 goes crazy
you did this in 5 weeks? thoroughly impressed... completely shocked
Love this piece of Beauty
I didnt know it was this trashed originally, great job man!
It was pretty disgusting. I wish we had more footage of the exterior and stuff
Can't wait til I'm ready for Radwood and the Japanese Classic 😢
Which one you going to?
How rad!

Interesting tattoo you got there on your hand, Colonel Mustang :D
Good eye 🫡
bro this is amazing 🙌🙌🙌
That AW11’s paint and interior is clean as new, but still the classic 80s. 👍 You know why I love MR2 AW11? Cause I love Over Rev! manga.
Over rev was what inspired the sticker!
@@NostalgiaHeroDriving absolutely. That is why I love Ryoko Shino and her MR2 AW11.
great job. Looks fantastic

Respect 👍🏼👍🏼
it turned out super great!

Wow! I just picked one of these up to restore and am beyond impressed. What is that color?! Mines the gray but this color looks so good!
how much did this all cost? absolutely sick
Alright now when can you start on mine???
funny enough, i actually bought the sticker a while ago before i saw this video. i hope to have an AW11 one day!!
That money definitely went into the build haha. They are out there! But they are usually lots of work

They are knock off rpf1 15x7. Also stock suspension in the video but coilovers now
Where do you get parts for these . I have an 86 MR2 I need rear fender wells
Ive planned on doing this to an MR2for about a year now. Any pointers on where i can buy stuff especially for the interior?
Depending on how bad it is, we got a whole interior from a scrap car. If you can find a shell for cheap that’s what I’d do
Turbo charged MR2
😍😍
can I have the painting coulor code please?
It’s Harley Davidson 100th anniversary blue pearl

Better get one soon, prices are going up fast lately for some reason

What throttle bracket did you use? I'm using the automatic transmission throttle bracket to eliminate that stock tripod, hideous bracket.
I had a small piece of shelving metal that I took a dremel and hammer to, I mounted it to one of the throttle body bolts

Hey I know this road! I'm in Sultan, we should go for a rip.
