BEAUTIFUL work table, kitchen accessory!! Love the recycling, too! Well Done, as ALWAYS~~💚 It is so nice to the curiosity of your cats, happy they are back💛
why are you thinking of this as a temporary measure? I think it is very useful, versatile and a tribute to your skills. When we built our first house my husband fitted out the kitchen and we kept it for 35 years - we loved it so much, we love the memories of each attempt to do it right, I didn't want to part with it.
I agree, my husband made me a smaller version of this that sits under the worktop. The baskets are used everyday and as it is on castors, it can be wheeled out when the whole family come over and we need more work surface in the kitchen. I would never changed it for a more “perfect” one. Perfectionism can sometimes get in the way of life.
Mostly because it’s not the right shape for how we want to use the space (can’t reach the sockets on the wall for example). We’ll use this prototype to work out how we want our final table to be (shelves or drawers etc) and later this table will get moved somewhere else. It will still be used, just not in the kitchen
I'm glad you have plans to reuse the table because it is magnificent. Thanks for sharing all your steps and your thought processes. As you go along. I would love to have that table in my house.
Love the worktop/shelf island, love your sense of humour, love your teamwork, and I love that Guy is secure in himself and often takes his lead from Kylie, such a wonderful thing to observe. You two are inspirational!
Well done to both of you for your first furniture project. Remember that regardless of what anyone suggests or advises, any furniture you make, the most important opinion is your own! So long as you are happy with how it turned out.
As a former apprentice to a cabinetmaker and a veteran of diy, you’ll never truly be able to sand dried glue off wood. The only way is to wipe the glue off as you do the glue up. Damp rug in warm water and wipe as you go. Don’t worry about getting the piece wet. The glue inside will hold. Been doing it this way for decades.
Watch Roaming Wild Rosie to get tips on wood working. She does all her wood projects in her house that way. I hope I made sense, she will show you many tips. Love how you two always are learning who to do new things.
I would be proud to have that table in my kitchen, what a grand masterpiece made from scraps. Bravo Kylie and Guy. Looking more and more like a kitchen. Good to see the kittens xx
Your house is really coming together. I enjoy your honesty when you make a mistake and then show how to fix it. I love how your kitchen is becoming functional and that will make all your kitchen projects much easier this summer! Love your show 🤩
The absolute joy of woodworking is the process. Stretching your brain to find solutions, the feel of the wood, the smell of fresh sawdust, learning new skills - there is nothing like it. Don't worry about the minor imperfections. Every project I have ever done has had minor imperfections that only I know about and I have made some very nice pieces of furniture. When someone praises your work resist the urge to point out these imperfections! Just bask in the awareness of a job well done. Confidence will come in time. You have made a wonderful start!
Wheels on furniture will be very welcomed in the next 10 or more years. Believe me when I say, no to stairs, yes to lift (elevator), yes to wheels and no to any edging you have to walk over into a shower stall. And a shower always needs a bench. Take good care of yourselves ~🤗💖Lacy, Mike & Hamish🐾
The table turned out so beautifully! I love the dark wood with the white. Congratulations on such a beautiful piece. The kitties are gorgeous thank you so much for letting us see them.😻🌸🌺
The table looks fantastic. If you bought that in a shop, it would cost a fortune.🥂🍾🎉🎉🏆 Well done to you both, lots of patience, perseverance and teamwork.
The table is beautiful, you have done amazing from scrapes of wood. If you had bought a table like it would of cost a fortune and would have not been as sturdy. Love the kitties, love and blessings from Scotland 💖💖
You think you built a kitchen island. The cats know you built a sleeping island for them. I love the wood color combined with the white. Crisp & clean. The rolling spice cart is a great idea.
What's the saying. The person who never made a mistake never made anything. Ltl mistakes are precious...who needs perfection anyway. Love love love the finished table..island..multifunctional piece.
Hi, Kylie and Guy. The work top table is gorgeous! You have done yourself proud👏👏👏👏👏 It’s so good to see your cats! They’re fully grown and are beautiful❤❤
That table is beautiful and far better than any you could buy, I don’t think it needs to be any bigger. It looks perfect where it is. Well done to you both.
Love the ginger kitty, my little sweetheart, now 10 years old, is a ginger, but with no white, and he's an absolute love. My husband built a few pieces over the years, bookshelves etc, basic but functional and very sturdy, with very basic tools. Through the years and many moves, and lightening the load out of necessity, the only piece I have left is a large blanket chest he made out of pine almost 40 years ago. As creative and handy as he was, he was not great at applying the finish, so that was my job, and I still enjoy refinishing small pieces to this day. Your project came out great, and it reminded me of way back when...thanks guys, been with you since the beginning and enjoy watching your progress...carry on! 🌸
OK here are some of my 50 years of wood working suggestion. Glue squeeze can be 99% cleaned with a slightly damp rag at glue up. Don't forget your table saw can produce incredibly accurate, repeatable tenons for joinery. For larger glue ups, I use pipe clamps. They use cheap black pipe as the bar. I have a selection of 3, 4, 6, and 8 foot sections of pipe. 4 sets of pipe clamps and a selection of pipe is like having an entire selection of clamps. If clamped properly, wood glue will stick. Gluing both sides of a joint just causes more squeeze. Most of the glue you apply is wasted when it squeezes out. Your clamped joints are incredibly thin, almost invisible. When ever possible, carefully align all the pieces for dowels. Use your square and a sharp pencil to make identical marks for your dowel placement. Makes placement of individual legs or pieces less critical. A dado blade for the table saw is an amazing addition. A tenon jig is also incredible.
I never usually comment or make suggestion because I always get the feeling that you both are careful, through and have thought of everything before doing a project.
That is some awesome re-use of scrap wood, totally love that! The remains of the Titebond glue can easily be removed with a brush and some water straight after you mount everything together, it saves you sanding afterwards. Have a great week!!! Cheers Bert
Those nooks with lights in the kitchen look just magical. While it was a lot of faff to get them done, it was really worth it in my humble opinion! And I am so impressed with your kitchen island/table build!
Thanks for the reminder that oftentimes we learn many ways NOT to do something when were learning a new skill! Also, I think we regret an abundance of attention to detail less often than a lack of attention to detail. IMHO.
Chiselling is an art form. I spent like 3 hours chiselling out a door handle on a bedroom to add a lock. Years later I had a carpenter fit several doors in a house and he knocked out the door handles in under 15 seconds per door. haha.
Yes. I love it. Just the right vibe for a rustic Portuguese kiychen. The white frame makes it contemporary and a clean look for a kitchrn. I like the balance.
love your attention to detail and regardless of you thinking you are NOT patient you really ARE otherwise you would not undo and redo thoroughly enjoy watching you both
Aaah, my favourite 🤗 RUclips Vlog, the Make.(un)Do.Grow channel. Thank you for sharing and keeping it real. I love that, I'm learning along with you! 🙃💞
We bought our kitchen cupboard from K-Mart back in 1980. Because my hubby put so much into fixing up our tiny kitchen I haven’t been able to part with it. We’ve updated it some over the years but it’s still there. No they aren’t great quality but they still work. I don’t need the newest thing going. The memories mean more to me.
I think your first piece of furniture, and yes I'm calling it furniture, is brilliant!!! 👍 I'd suggest putting wheels on the bottom so you can move it around as you need it! You might want to consider buying a biscuit cutter. Good job! Can I order one? Just kidding.
Have you seen French Farmhouse Diaries? Budo is a master carpenter who often shows exactly how he builds things. Definitely worth a look. He is in the middle of building a kitchen which might be interesting. Love your island, real achievement for your first time. It is really starting to feel like a home, especially with the cats😊 enjoy❤
Your table looks amazing! You guys have plenty of space to store your pots and pans. The dark table top with the light color table frame gives it a nice touch. Outstanding work! Can't wait to see your future projects. Take care, and God bless.
If you want a real treat you should watch "Roaming wild Rosie". She is from Sweden and has renovated her home by herself. Her woodworking skills are amazing. She is also a designer and has learned while doing as you both have and made mistakes as well!
You don't have to apply glue to both surfaces in order to get it to bond correctly. You just need to apply enough glue before clamping. Always use a damp rag to wipe away excess squeeze out glue any stain applied after will not stain the wood. It looks good when painted.
That's a braw table/worktop. Remember that learning by doing is a very legitimate way of learning - and you have the evidence of your learning in front of you. It is cumulative too - that work trolley on wheels for the spices, etc. sounds great. Keep doing it - and you'll acquire the tools too. Great video.
Straight up cat tails means very happy kitties.
BEAUTIFUL work table, kitchen accessory!! Love the recycling, too! Well Done, as ALWAYS~~💚 It is so nice to the curiosity of your cats, happy they are back💛
Shall we take a moment and appreciate the gorgeous olive wood cutting board that the loaf of bread sits on?
It’s a beauty isn’t it!
Guy gave that to me about 14 years ago and it’s still going strong

@@kathleencollings7021 That sounds just up my street - very versatile 👍
Ya know, that Island is so gorgeous, I don't think I'd ever replace it.
Matthew Cremona has classes on how to make nice furniture in great detail.
The cats are so beautiful! ❤❤❤
I hope you keep that. The minor imperfections are a sign it was made by humans and not machines. It looks great. And love those sweet kitties.

Good hint!
I found out the hard way 🙂
‘Some glue has dried’ 😂 hilarious 😆 that piece of furniture is amazing and I hope it has a place in your kitchen for a long time - well done you two
As a woodworker this was painful to watch but the result was the best painkiller on the market 😁😁🤩
We all have to start somewhere … hopefully a couple more builds and it will be less painful for all 😂
Watch Roaming Wild Rosie to get tips on wood working. She does all her wood projects in her house that way. I hope I made sense, she will show you many tips. Love how you two always are learning who to do new things.
The table is really lovely and the kitties behaved exactly as I would have expected; inquisitive, slightly cautious and very paws-on. 😊
Amazing piece of furniture , congratulations
that turned out great, really nice to see the fur babies all grown up
The cats make that a home. They are just beautiful x

Aww Guys?? I had to pause the video to say how perfect the table/island/prep area is.. It’s HOME. Just like you are. Belonging is “importanter”. 💕

I don't think you could buy anything as beautiful as you two made. I love it!
Well done. The island is pretty big, but it has lots of work surface and more importantly storage. Kitties are looking happy. All is well
Make sure the wheels have brakes!!
The table turned out so beautifully! I love the dark wood with the white. Congratulations on such a beautiful piece. The kitties are gorgeous thank you so much for letting us see them.😻🌸🌺
Using 2 clamps together to make it longer, BRILLIANT!
Great table. You're calling it rustic and I agree, it looks like country furniture. I think it looks perfect in the kitchen.
The table looks fantastic. If you bought that in a shop, it would cost a fortune.🥂🍾🎉🎉🏆
Well done to you both, lots of patience, perseverance and teamwork.
So happy to see you making your house a home, filling it with furniture you've made yourself! ❤
Awesome table. Nothing more satisfying then building your own furniture.
I really like the table and I think I should give yourself a break and not be so self critical, it looks great so well done. 😊
Who said Wood Working was Hard ....looks Fantasic
Everything you do ends up being super high end in appearance. Your work is so detailed. I love seeing the progress.
