hi just couple questions. what should my grip be like during these drills.. loose? firm. really tight? and what is objective or what am i learning from "insane edge" drill? thank you Joel
Hey Joel, definitely a loose grip. The objective on edge of insanity is just a more focused hand eye drill. The smaller the target we use for the ball to hit, the harder it becomes. Once we can hit smaller targets more consistently, the better chance we have of making solid contact in the sweet spot of our paddle. Hope this helps. Jem
Thank you very much for your video! It is so beautifully presented, so clearly explained! You are born to be a teacher! After watching your video and thinking about my pickleball errors, I realized that, indeed, I need to work on my hand-eye coordination. I know that I oftentimes cannot catch a ball with my left hand when someone tosses it to me across the court, just miss the ball when trying to grab it - a clear indication of a hand-eye coordination deficiency. Inaccurate paddle position which leads to unforced errors is also a part of not sufficiently well trained hand-eye coordination. I worked on some of your drills today and thoroughly enjoyed them! You made a joke about joggling, but probably a learning sequence towards joggling three balls will be helpful, too. I subscribed to your channel and look forward to watching your other videos to learn how to practice in the garage or on a deck. THANK YOU!
Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to write such a thoughtful and articulate note. Really appreciate your kind words and glad that this video helped in some way!
This video is just what I need, my hand eye coordination has always been poor. Just started pickle ball and I want to do my best. By the way I chuckled at the juggling joke LOL. Thank You
Great drills. When doing # 1, SWEET SPOT, I find myself chasing the ball around the room. Is this an indication of something I am doing wrong or just need more time?
Thanks for writing us! It definitely takes time and practice. Something that can help is just trying to do 2 in a row and then catching the ball in your other hand. Once you feel comfortable with that, try for 3 in a row. And so on…
Thank you, #4 is def more of a feel/touch exercise that will help with control. #5 is very specifically a hand eye drill using and extremely small target. It would be similar to throwing darts.
Thanks for sharing the drills Jem! And thanks for the PB clinics in Hawaii. We love your patience, your teaching style and I love your sweater! You're awesome!!
Hi, and thanks for the question. The 5th drill is a variation on a hand/eye drill in which you try to drop a small pebble into the hole of a drinking straw. It’s just another fun way to train the eye and hand to work together. In this instance we are fine tuning the eye’s ability to gage pinpoint location and relay that information to the hand. Hope this helps 😃
Great drills, though I believe juggling is great for hand-eye coordination. I used to umpire softball, and the greatest softball hitter I ever saw told me he was in to juggling.
I'm with you on the first four, and see how they could help, but I see no relevance or benefit from #5 (though I can imagine it might be amusing to do that during a boring class in high school).
I am new to pickleball. This is my first time watching your video. These are excellent suggestions! Thank you for taking the time to make this video and sharing. Explanations are clear and this can be done at home which is great. I subscribed to your channel and look forward to seeing more from you. Do you have any videos for strategies for short players? Reaction time from being at the kitchen line and then having to drop back when a surprise lob comes. So much easier for them to do because my 5”2” tall self will jump and swat at it with an elongated paddle and still miss. lol
I remember when I first watched your video for the first time I really enjoyed it and I need to get back in shape I really would like to be a professional pickleball player but everybody tells me that I cannot and won't be there are some that believe in me
Great question. I’ve only ever used the Paddletek Bantam EXL. I wish I had more knowledge to share but there are some really great paddles out there and it’s all about what feels right for you and your style of play.
WHAT THE HECK WAS THE LAST ONE?? EXACTLY WHAT/HOW DOES DROPPING BB'S IN THE HOLES DO?? a couple of the other drills are ok (there are many others but the one at 09:00 Is just a mystery.
Hey Jem--it's raining out and these look great--thanks much!
Our pleasure Peter! Thanks so much
I had fun playing around with these today after watching this on Mon. evening. Thanks!

Nice video, I'm not sure how drills #4 and #5 have anything to do with hand-eye coordination.
Thank you,

Great for me may help my tracking with history of vertigo.
Great fun! And helpful.
Thank you Sarvani!
Is that an Electrum paddle? Great drills!
Thanks John! And yes, it’s an Electrum Pro Graphite.
@@ThePickleballExperience I ordered one Black Friday! Can’t wait to try it out.
Nice man! Hope it’s a good fit for you.
Thank you! Very useful
Thanks Stephanie 🤗
Nice! What kind of paddle are you using here?
Thanks Brennan!
The paddle is the Electrum Pro.
Well done!
Thanks Garth!
Appreciate it :)

Thanks Glory! So much fun being here in Hawaii and you’ve made me feel so welcome. I’d be nothing without my sweater 😳
You’re more awesome!!
Hi, I'm still not clear on the value of the 5th drill. Please explain. Thank you.

Love of the game

Thanks Randall, I love juggling and totally agree with you. Great for hand eye.
Unorthodox but I definitely see the value of these drills.

Thanks for your feedback Mark. Really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment.

That’s pretty funny about the lobs. Lob them before they can lob you ;)

use a sponge ball if you don't want the loud noise. it works just the same
