In this poignant talk, massage therapist Terri Bergstrom suggests to trauma sufferers and their health practitioners a more body-centered approach to healing from trauma disorders like PTSD.
Reflecting on the lengthy journeys to heal from PTSD that both she and her brother endured, Terri became curious why trauma disorders today are still treated mostly with psychotherapy and drugs. With an abundance of scientific research pointing to many diseases being exacerbated and even caused by stress, hormonal imbalances, diet and other physical problems, it made sense to this bodywork expert that a better balance of mind and body approaches might offer better results. In her talk, Terri surmises that healing from trauma might very well happen more quickly and more thoroughly if we remember our issues are in our tissues and treat the body, too.
Terri is a lifelong resident of Austin, MN. she graduated from Austin High School, attended Riverland, and went on to complete her B.S. in Social Work at Bemidji State University. Her own personal path to healing led her into massage and bodywork, which she has made a career for the last 18years. Always curious, she has explored a variety of mind/body modalities personally and professionally. She believes in the power of addressing healing, health and wellbeing through a blend of mind/body approaches and hopes that through her continued journey she can help others as well.

THANK YOU! I have always known PTSD was part of my story, but as I was not in war, so it was hard to explain it to others and have it "validated". I will share this video with everyone in my circle...so they might "actually" be able to understand.

Terri, your presentation was both very moving and educational. I find it interesting that although our minds may or may not intentionally suppress past traumatic experiences or details of situations, we carry the residual effects in our bodies for a lifetime. Perhaps this explains my chronic pain, fibromyalgia, fatigue, and autoimmune disorders. In your research have you found if the use of Essential Oils, either aromatically or topically, may aid in healing from trauma? Thank you for the information and your willingness to share your personal experiences to educate others.
