I work in the drone space. I cornered a FAA rep at last years AUVSI. I asked him plainly how RID will prevent bad actors from doing naughty stuff. He admitted it wont. No more than a license plate prevents a nut from driving into a crowd. He just claimed it needs oversight, even if its onerous and serves zero real purpose.
Why I will never comply 😊
It serves a real purpose...lining pockets of those creating the bs laws and who are under huge drone Corp's finger
Onerous and zero purpose describes most of government. “We’re not happy until you’re not happy”
"Oversite'? = "A concrete oversite is a layer of concrete that gets laid underneath the flooring or a slab, to prevent the ground beneath from being disturbed, this also allows it to block out moisture and air from the ground beneath in order to provide a hard but level surface for new flooring to then be laid."
Or "Oversight"? = 1 "an unintentional failure to notice or do something." OR 2 "the action of overseeing something."
All pertinent as far as the paper shufflers see things I guess. 🤔🙄
Money grab
Well I learned something. I'm 65 been flying over 50 years now. I fly a DJI camera drone at times. I had no idea I wasn't a "TRUE" hobbyist.
I noticed you said "at times"... so do you *only* fly DJI? 🤔
I noticed you said "at times"... so do you *only* fly DJI? 🤔
Yes, in America there are dangerous massive swarms of drones everywhere. I, myself, have been killed on multiple occasions by them, it's terrible. OR it could mostly be F.U.D (or income by FUD), or something like that. BUT, at least we can take flights on commercial aircraft knowing full well that the federal government is keeping us safe. Or... not...
Have original Mavic Pro, no RID attached. Will never have unit attached.
Good weekly news Bruce…..the comments from viewers are just amazing. Thank for sharing
Bruce, you hit it right on the nail. The FAA will not care if you're not RID complaint unless you do something dumb that will attract attention. I haven't been flying for a couple of years but now that I'm retired, I'm getting back into it... non RID compliant! I've been watching your channel for 6 years and really enjoy your content. So much so, when I visit Hobbiton near Matamata some day, I would like to drop by and say hi, if you have the time.
Any time Donald, It's always a pleasure to meet viewers and subscribers!
Great commentary, and really enjoyed your AI created image which hit the nail right on the head👍
Excellent video, Bruce!
I'm feeling quite smug for now being in Australia - they scrapped even just the registration requirement for anything over 249g. I think we can fly anything as long as it's under a kilo and 5.5km from an airport or something. Which is making me a bit sus - because what are they planning. I'd politely run foul of any remote ID nonsense - registering something with a identifying number on it I can see making sense, because if you f*** up and somehow cause World War III by crashing it into an embassy, sure, but remote ID seems to be next-level paranoia.
Fly under the radar,
Fly under the RIDar
Too speak to Boeings issues, you should be aware the whistleblower has died in an "apparent" suicide. This after telling individuals that if he showed up dead, its not a suicide.
His family said he had mental issues. He knew he was going to lose his defamation case. Think about it, people saying what youre saying are exactly what he wanted to happen when he went out. Do you really think boeing is dumb enough to murder him? Just a thought... he figured it would hurt boeing by planning all that, which it is..
Just like Jeffrey Epstein did 🙄
@@anteater555 maby not boeing but what about some with financial interest and low morals.
Not saying it is so but it is also a possibility.
With all the migrants flowing through the US border comes future false flags. All its gonna take is one whack job with a drone and a B and a boom and they will try to ban everything flying. Importing the false flags. Thank Joe Biden. #FJB
He had already given all of his info out in a prior case, so this was not new info.
I sold or gave away most of my RC aviation models, equipment ect. My new hobby is rimfire markmanship and target plinking, not nearly as much hassle with regulations, permits ect. and surprisingly less expensive with just as much fun and the local range community is very welcoming to new members.
Thanks Bruce
Thanks so much Bruce!
Thanks brother hope your doing well and getting some flying in, cheers 🍻 bro
I have prop planes buzzing my house well below 200' and the field is 8 miles from my house. No reason for it.
We get crop dusters < 150ft flying right over our FRIA approved field. 😬. Crop dusters don't give a flip about 500' rule.
@@jasonhurdlow6607 Yeah we had a guy in a powered parasail fly into our RC Field area, then continued down the valley going closer than 500' to houses and vehicles. Pilot violated regs and probably didn't even know it.
@jojoma4025 I could be wrong, but I think paragliding has somewhat different rules than normal GA. He may have been legal to fly that low. However, he still shouldn't have flown through your field area, just for his own safety if nothing else.
Where I lived in the UK, the Army would fly Apaches below tree top height through our village.
The AI is spot on with that picture.
Yeah that was a banger meme.
I'm just glad quadcopters are exempt .
oldguyFPV; I was flying today and have no ID where I was!
Thank you Xjet!
Will RID prevent stupidity?
Asking for a friend.
I still fly as I have always done and will continue to do so without a tracking device. I haven't hurt anyone or anything. It's a miracle 🛩️🛩️🛩️🛩️🛩️ flying free in America a Democratic Republic.
Hi from the uk 🇬🇧 Bruce
Doesn't the UK have designated drone patrol officers now ?
@@Paulman50 lol not near me but I fly fixed wing planes and jet’s
Keep at it my friend. I appreciate you.
Explain to me how back yard model rocketry is safer than drones and rec planes.
Its not, and its still bound by the FAA's rules. A rocket over 249g requires remote id. Any rocket going over 400' AGL needs a waiver and in most cases a NOTAM filed. (I fly rockets all the time in NM). If you fly at a FRIA your are limited to 400'. My last rocket made it to 91,009 feet - woohoo! This summer I plan on making it to 150k ft.
@@dougwalls1162 you got video of that? I did some small time EX when I was younger. 100K ft is some accomplishment.
@@dougwalls1162Where did you learn to make such powerful rockets ?
I'm not putting remote ID on my models. I'll continue flying safely in the park. FAA chose the worst possible rules for remote ID.
cheers for vid mate
Love that AI generated picture, amazing.
the most important voice in FPV!
All of my Quads are on the Ozempic Challenge 👍👍🇺🇸🌬️💋
I've seen the term "airworthy-mess Certificate" banded about lately
Good video !!
Hi Bruce, excellent news video, great use for a disco-ball, I blame designer trying to make things easier, im writing for the airlines to fire their pilots and 12 year olds will be piloting from their bedrooms, and a joystick. Yep its a big gorilla. I have been flying 3.5in micros far from anyone else. Thanks again for a great news about our Hobby
Bruce, we need to stop that specific AI right now, because it ends us all! It's too smart to keep working. 😬
But yeah, I absolutely agree.
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
This week in Aussie, two Quantas jets have a Fender Bender on the tarmac, Jetstar plane collides with Ute on runway, LATAM plane plummets injures 50, No drones involved in any incidents.
Mirrors can't stop lasers. They can slow it down a little but they'll heat up and get destroyed.
Dichroic mirror ?
@@tonybony5805 There are very reflective mirrors that reach 99.99%, but they're only good against one specific frequency. Any change in frequency will get around it.
You also have to worry about the mirror getting dirty.
And the laser is going to kill any optics the drone has anyway.
WT... are you talking about? Maybe if you were flying over a mil installation you might get hit with an IR laser with ultra fast tracking able to bring down your quad, but in a park or on a beach you're most likely to be lased by some joker with a pocket laser, no tracking. They'll be able to flash your drone possibly many times but the beam is relatively small and will wash over your drone in milliseconds (they'll see it because the laser is a brilliant light and by persistence of vision it will look like they're "hitting" it half a second or so each time). Such clowns want to see the beam on the drone for their own jollies (it normally won't hurt the drone but can burn out your camera). They will be visible spectrum lasers that ordinary reflective materials will work just fine with, and a few corner reflectors made from it around your drone will do wonders for laser clowns' education.
@@terrencezellers9105 This was about military lasers designed to take down drones and missiles, not about consumer laser pointers.
I love the Ai photo it sums it all up.
Nothing wrong with sub 250, it's just a question of matching what you fly with where you fly it. Not that it'll make any difference here in the UK, because the current CAA plans are (hybrid) network remote ID on everything from tiny whoops upwards.
Sub 250 doesn't handle wind very well. Where I live that means very limited flying opportunities. If RID stays in needs to be 1kg minimum.
@@jasonhurdlow6607 yes, true about wind. OK up to about 13/14mph but getting hard after that. Usually by then I don't bother. Can build some reasonable 4" prop craft at around 210g AUW, though. But if RID turns up here on anything I fly - which unfortunately looks likely, that'll be me gone.
@edcbabc I fly fixed wing, so it's less than that. 10mph is too much for comfort. 5 is about max.
How will the FAA enforce the drone ID? With enthusiasm and gusto!
1:09 Those are infrared lasers, regular mirrors don't work shit against them. Also even if it was in visible spectrum laser it melts glass/plastic and destroy thin reflective material in seconds. Only somewhat working Mirror Shield is the Bragg mirror, but it needs to tuned for the laser frequency.
Heat resistant tiles are the way. Or just nothing. Not like any laser nonsense will see widespread adoption anywhere.
Plenty of other materials that are reflective in infrared that you could cover a drone with.
Police have been notified about remote Id and intend to use it to harass local RC Flyers. Enjoying a hobby is against the law in the US.
You missed aerial video of an even that officially isn't happening as an offense attracting additional FAA charges.
Waiting for the first disco ball drone .be a real eye opener
Should look pretty 'flashy' too 😁
Just look out for those older gentlemen flying around the model airfield.
Laser beams. Not a disco ball. Corner reflectors. Make a half dozen of them and stick them on reflectors anywhere you have room around it. from half an inch to an an inch square. If he's just using a pointer he'll get an unpleasant flash (depending on the optical quality of your reflectors) If he's using a high energy (and illegal for that matter) laser .... probably the return wouldn't blind him permanently .... probably ... (the sweep across the drone is likely on the order of milliseconds actually on the drone... and again if you're using light weight materials the optical structure is likely not that good) but quite possibly he's gonna have a bad day.
From now on, all my drones will be covered in retroreflectors
Hi Bruce, When are you guys flying again?? 👍👍👍👍
Need to put or if those corner cube mirrors like they use on the moon that regardless of what angle the beam comes in it goes right back to the source.
Hit the nail on the head about the "70% non compliance" study and DJI ... just walk into any electronics store today, buy any new DJI drone above 250g. It is automatically going to broadcast your pilot location and the serial number & you cannot turn it off. Fine, unless you register yourself with the FAA along with the RID details you're in violation, but the hardware is fundamentally compliant with the basics of broadcasting. The study nitpicked that the reporting can be a little inaccurate due to software/firmware versions but, whatever. 🙄
Also, I'm _pretty sure_ the law only applies to any drone with a manufacture date past September 2022... so companies like Parrot, Yuneec, etc are not required at all go back and update end of life drones. Though it is a mess that they have allowed parrot to implement it however they wanted, self-certify and then get it approved.
It appears the BNF FPV drone/plane/heli market, hobby-grade RTF market has been forgotten also. I think the FAA doesn't want to actually deal with that category, which is great, but I'd also hate to be a small 'manufacturer' knowing I was technically breaking the law and they could come knocking.
There are other more serious crimes that must be enforced instead of hassling a guy flying a foamie at the local school field. This should be only for commercial drone users.
6 more years of Poootin and my diesel truck and drone are the real problem with the world
And skydio doesn’t sell consumer drones or any drones lol only lease. Crazy I spent money on a rid module and the HR2864
Theres only one company making RIDs and with all the Part 107 people buying 10 at a time, the rest of us probably wont fly for another 2 years. I think that most RC companies will be bankrupt by the end of the year. Its certainly not a good investment
FAA is so busy with drones that they have no time to check for missing bolts in jets 😂 They hire only RC haters there 😅
The whistleblower had already given the same testimony before and this time it was due to an appeal. He wasn't giving new info out so why would Boeing do that? He probably was not in a good mental state as is. Sad though.
It would have been nice to have a quick and simple introduction to drone ID for first time viewer’s.
It's not hard to find videos that explain the ins and outs of RID and, to be honest, many of them probably do a better job of explaining things than I would.
Media hyping drone stuff...does that sound like media and those scary looking AR's?
I’ve got both. Wait! I forget I lost them in that boat accident
I need to worry about man aircraft not the unmanned aircraft
I'm thr only person I see in my area flying drones. 1 drone is a swarm I guess lol.
Same here. I’ve heard rumors of another drone pilot, but never seen his drone. Probably a Fed looking through windows.
The FAA will find some RUclipsr who is flying a small RC airplane without Remote ID and give him the same treatment as they're giving Trent Palmer to make an example out of them and get everyone scared.
I will not comply, I fly at my property, most are umx.
I'm more scared of people reporting you for just flying and then having to deal with police at that point.
Usually flights don't last very long. Just fly and then leave. Don't hang out all day flying somewhere that's high exposure. If you are only flying for 30 minutes max you maintain a lower profile so busybodies see less and even if they tattled by the time anyone shows up you will be gone. Most people don't care, it's kind of local demographic dependent as far as the odds of being reported. Also the bigger the plane the worse your chances of being seen, obviously.
Ummm, how come no one is complaining about all the private pilots with monetized youtube channels showing their flying adventures?? Huh? What is the diff?
It's power and crazy politics.
How can they tell if it's over 250g
They'll use their drug scales. :-)
With all the new rules in the U.S. they have now, scared me out of THEIR SKIES even over my own property. I live in a small town in NW Pennsylvania and I have NOT seen a drone flying anywhere around here for a couple years now, they are all scared to fly these days.
The aviation industry...it was safe? When was this?
So check this out. You can still buy none compliant drones. Bind and fly drones can't comply with standard RID. It's impossible. You putting a module on it won't make it compliant because the regulation demands standard RID for mass-produced drones weighing over 250 grams. There's not a single Emax bind and fly on the declaration of compliance list, yet you can buy them right now.
Yep, and supposedly the FAA has been "enforcing" the rule on store-bought drones for over a year now but there are heaps of violations and not a single prosecution.
@xjet they've never truly enforced the RID rule on corporations. I have a drone that not complaint even though it's required to be. Was manufactured in May of 2023. They had no good explanation when I called them and asked about it.
I'm beginning to hate my first name!
Hello, I love your fight for our rights but can you please also give us the fun videos you used to make at the RC Airfield where you fly, it's a nice change of pace between all the seriousness that happens at the moment 😊
I would love to but the tyranical bureaucrats at our local council have forbidden me to fly at the airfield or any of the local parks.
@@xjet I am sure that can't be done with legal foundation, go to court and have them corrected, in any free country this is illegal.
@@wernervandenbosch1609 I have enough money to pay the bills I already have, not enough to hire lawyers and engage in court actions I'm afraid. Besides which, since they'd be funding their lawyers from the local property taxes, I'd effectively be paying both teams of lawyers and that's a big lose/lose situation
you need to make a t-shirt with your AI picture
"What's happened to he aviation industry, it used to be super safe?" ESG happened to it ,that's what!
If I do something stupid and have RemoteID - no one will ever have a record for it because Bluetooth only goes 70ft with those tiny tinsy antennas .. also my 3.5 inch fly's like a 5inch!
How would they clear airspace over cities before laser blasting it.
In the USA the attack on recreational drone pilots is driven only by the financial value of our airspace. Stay Analog
Cats eye and lasers make laser weapons problematic.
Answer: with an authoritarian heavy hand.
I won't do remote i.d. that's where draw the line. But I will meet them halfway and make sure I'm flying in a non populated area and stick to the basic rules of safety and common sense 💯
Some say that the problems FAA and Boeing are having these days is in no small part due to new hiring policies that does not focus on merit but rather on sex, color, etnicity hbtqmfgku or whatever is the fashion. Quite possible I think.
Did the Boeing panel or plane land safely?
I gave up flying. to many stupid rules and regulations for a toy. I also hate the media portrayal of a "drone". Saw a comment on the redbull F1 chase where people were talking about the speed and some idiot actually compared it to a predator drone saying that was faster.... and this is the issue. The word drone is synonomous with military equipment and people just dont identify the difference. I have never flown a drone.. I fly ( well flew) quads.
Last week I took my Typhoon H for its last flight. There are no RID modules under $200, Where are the modules? The Yuneec pilot forums have gone almost quiet other than peeps trying to sell their hexacopters. This is a law that seperates Rich from Poor. I dont even know if I can legally sell it to buy a mini or something and if I can Im sure theres not much of a market for a large heavy hexacopter. HEY! BEZOS! send me an RID module! This is your Law, Help people out!
I'm sure the FAA will point you to the $50 RID module they promised us when the rule was announced. After all, with their in-depth knowledge of the hobby, the industry and the technology they can't have got something as simple as the price of a module so very wrong... could they?
I agree with the bezos part. This is not being done in the name of saftey, its to clear the sky for commercial reasons. I was born at night, but it wasnt last night.
I would think bad characters would love the rid. It is a useful tool, just don't register it. You would appear ligit to those who don't have the ability to match the number to a pilot or a ghost.
Take ni notice. Whose policing it!!!!
Oh don’t underestimate the police state that US is
No one can afford to get a pilots license any more
IT WILL SOON BE ONLY SKYDIO
HR 2864
Some good points , can you do a video on the controlled opposition popping up on youtube ( a fat bloke in the uk) that subtlety try to dissuade people from enjoying their hobby through threats of fines and retribution that are in reality unlikely to occur because it can not be policed
Yea directed energy encompasses a broad range of technologies/devices. Many of which we will not know about for years. And yes...they do work. And like anything else that is functional...it has hiccups along the way. But I'm gonna guess that if the major militaries of the world are arming with this technology...there's probably a good reason as well as a good reason to believe the tech outperforms other methods of technology that are in the same class.
HR2864 Will end everything .. this is all distraction .. no more dji no more Autel.. only SKYDIO
It is kind of worrisome what happened to the whistleblower. I hope institutions in the US investigate to the fullest extend. Of course, i am being naive. I know but I expect justice is done.
I lost my remote ID can I borrow yours xJet?
Sorry, I'm picking bits of door-plug and wheel out of mine :-)
Do these weight restrictions apply to my RC Zeppelin with helium or when weighed without helium?
Can I fly a kite?
I bet Boeing could fix all their problems with even stronger DEI initiatives. Diversity is far more important than actual skills. That should stop their insiders from cancelling their life subscriptions.
Boeing 100% had this man killed.
Could have been any of their major investors too.
There has to be some drone regulation. In one week I saw 3 separate drones hovering above or near a major highway. I am surprised that it didn't cause any car accidents. They are certainly a distraction that drivers don't need. I saw another drone flying near the local hospital. Helicopters🚁🚁🚁 are in that space. Be responsible.
Why would a drone be more of a distraction than a low-flying aircraft, helicopter or young girl with a short skirt?
They weren’t drones but rather vultures homing in on roadkill.
simple ban drones not rc aircraft /plane helicopters gliders
They suicided him
HR2864
I registered 2 of my drones with built-in RID but the rest I still can't get my 50 dollar module 😂😂😂
Who would want to risk it from now on, flying on a plane built by an organization operating under ESG certification with all it's woke compliance boxes ticked... no thanks.
