Hi Loyiso, i hope you are well. Just wanted to ask what subjects you took in Highschool and what subjects do you think make someone's application look more appealing for psychology.
Hey! I'm well thank you! I hope you are too :). I took: History, Bio, Dance Studies, Dramatic Arts, Maths Lit, Afrikaans, English, and Life orientation. In terms of the application, I think it would be good to have Bio/Life Sciences as you will have some courses that have to do with the brain, etc in Psych :). I'd also recommend having pure maths, but if not, it wouldn't be the end of the world :)
haha hi loyiso! thanks so much for these lovely videos and good luck on your honors. i had a few q’s to ask, one being what happens if you won’t be selected to do further study like honors and masters ? and the last q is it hard to get it and to successfully complete studying psychology?
Thank you so much for the information...I would just like to get more help on the subject choices in high school for psychology...I've done some research but I only found out all I need is life sciences
Hi Patience! So sorry for seeing your comment so late🙏☀️🥺. Yes Life Sciences and Pure Maths are recommended subjects to have in HIgh school 💫. However, if you don't have Pure Maths you would probably have to take an extra year in Uni to do some statistics courses💫.
Hi there! Psychology is offered at many universities across South Africa not just in Cape Town :). In terms of the course, at UCT specifically, the available courses cover the department's four principal areas of expertise: Social psychology, Developmental psychology, Clinical psychology and Cognitive and Neuro-psychology.
Hey Loyiso currently doing my 2nd year ,currently looking for a mentor as well to just have someone in this journey because it’s a long one (not going well ) do you have any tips?
Hey Joy,if you don't mind may you please tell me how you got into UP for BA Psychology because I plan on applying there this year? Any tips on how I can get admission?
Ahh thank you so much for this. 🌷🌷 I want to take psychology and try major in it - but I don’t have pure maths, so I’m grappling with taking a maths course or not. I’m not sure if it’s worth it - if you do struggle with maths.. what do you think ?
Hey Emma! Sure💛 Amped to here that you want to go into Psych 😁🙌. I did struggle with pure math in highschool and then switched to Math lit in Matric. So according to UCT requirements only students who have 70% on the National Benchmark test QL or at least 50% on Pure Maths have unconditional access to The First Year Psych Course. I didnt have pure maths and didnt get a 70% or above for the NBT QL so I was strongly encouraged to extend my degree by a year and take the maths (statistics) courses they offer before officially starting my psych courses the following year. So, if you score a 70% and above on your NBT QL, you can register to start your psych courses in your first year of University. Hope this makes sense? If you need more clarification please let me know 💞 I dont regret extending my degree and taking those courses because it really helped me alot when we actually did statistics in our research psych courses the following years.
Hi, Fortunate! I'm so sorry for this late response to your comment! I sadly don't have the capacity to be a full-time mentor at the moment because honours is so demanding, but I would love to answer any questions you may have :). Please feel free to pop me emails any time: gasaloyiso@gmail.com / or dm me on Instagram: @loyiso_gasa :)

How many years does it take to complete
Usually 3/4 years depending on the Uni and the country.
