I completed this job yesterday. I left the spindle attached to the UCA. I removed the two 22MM bolts on the bottom of the spindle and removed the bolts for the sway bar. That was it. No need to remove the ABS wire and steering rod. Removed the strut and installed taller one. I was able to push the LCA out of the way to fit the taller struts. After installing the four strut nuts, I jacked up the LCA, installed the lower strut bolt, and then the two 22MM bolts to the spindle, and finally the sway bar. I found this the easiest way for me to do this job given I was installing taller struts.
Also, this is a 2wd Tundra, the 4wd has the CV axle ,which Could pull out with UCA/ Spindle disconnected.
Go ahead and make this Look Easy
A tie rod seperator tool is called a Pickle fork, which is what we used to use in the old days.
This looks much easier, good video :)
Great job showing the steps to replacing strut assembly. Excellent and clear view video that captured the steps of disassembly. Clear concise instruction. Thank you.
thank you!
Seen a bunch of videos on how to do this but yours was the biggest help. Thanks for posting it!
Mike
Best video I’ve seen. Thank you so much for the help!
This video is the best one on youtube for tundra strut removal and assembly. Thanks for making it.
thank you so much! I'm glad you found it helpful 👍
Very well done and great tutorial on how to replace the shocks .
Thanks man this was the best video I’ve seen on how to do this on a tundra. Thanks so much
thank you! I'm glad you found it useful!
Thank you so much, you saved me $800.
They said my right front strut was leaking and quoted me at $1000
that's awesome glad to help!
As others have said, excellent, practical, well explained video--now you've me the confidence to do it myself on my '07 Tundra. Thanks!
Thank you. I appreciate the comment!
This video was a ton of help thank you.
As an industrial tech though please for the love of tools everywhere use a punch!
Don't hit the flathead with a hammer
Good evening sir. Just wanting to provide some feedback......This was a very detailed video and very well guided. Thank you for this one.

Wow excellent video thank you
Thank you for watching!
Thanks . Doing this tomorrow 🤪..
Got the Bilstein so I have to remove the spring 🙃.. Gracias Homeboy .. you got a sub from me
thank you I appreciate it!
You and your neighbor make a great team, he's very fortunate to have such a handy neighbor. :o) My only comment would be that while you're talking about removing the four nuts at the top of the tower a reminder to NOT touch the one in the middle that contains the load on the spring. LOL
TRQ has a video on this but I like this one a little better, nice job.
Also A1 auto has the cheapest parts for your neighbors tundra
Nice job. Diy, in the driveway like most of us.
thank you for watching!
I'm ghetto so I do it in my alley 😆
Thanks guy
Great video
thank you!
Good video. Thanks!
Thank you for watching!
Hello Eric you should do a video on how to fix a death wobble on jeep wranglers. You would get a lot of hits cause my jeep has that and I need to change out my track bar.....just a thought
A+ thank you
Very helpful video, my 2011 tundra have a leaking oil on one of the strut and the dealer want around $1000 to do it. I said No and will do it myself, just give you a sub.
thats crazy expensive, well I'm glad that you saved money by doing it yourself! thank you for your support👍
Yea I'll just have my mechanic do this. I can handle the rears but this is way more involved and I know my luck.
Good work, very informative step by step video and narrative accompaniment. I will be attempting the replacement in a few weeks. I noticed you demonstrated the driver's side in your video, is there any differences or issues I should be aware of for the passenger's side?
thank you so much for watching! And not it was the extra same thing 👌
Thank you

hello, have a question, my tundra is 2wd 2007, can I install 4wd struts assemply?? thanks for video....
Yeah man that’s really cool I really like it what kind of struts are you using there
I sold my 2007 4.7v8 already, idk why im watching this.
Every time he says “go ahead” make sure you go ahead and take a drink.
Awesome, nice video, thanks for posting!Would it be easier to disconnect both sway bar links so you are not fighting the sway bar to pop out the link ends?
yes, its possible that it will since that was a pain to get back on.
Best practice to get your alignment checked after this.
I was curious if it could be removed without pressing the spring. Because, even with the upper arm swung up. My Mcpherson style presser couldnt be used.
(Hooks too big) I didn't unhook the end links, so the 1st one was a pain!
What is the impact wrench that you are using in this video? I would like to grab one.
Ay bro would this method work with added spacer ?
Just double checking before i pay for the parts, my tundra is driving superrr rough and i can literally feel every bump and both struts have a leaking fluid. That means it’s time to change out the front struts correct?
I just completed this job last night, was simple and this video was helpful! Onn question, after tying everything back up my brakes are a bit more mushier than before any thoughts? Taking it in today for alignment and to get this checked out.
I'm glad the video was able to help you out, and that's kind of strange did you disconnect any brake lines? If so you might have added air into the system so you have to probably Bleed It Out but sometimes that can go away on its own if you let it sit for a while since air travels up it will eventually leave the system
ERICSDIYGARAGE Thanks for the reply! Yah guessing air got in somehow or was in there already and moving the lines around caused the issue to become more pronounced. Thank you!
You need to add the torque ft pounds to your video of the torgueable nuts
Cant find the video of you removing the coil spring... is it still on your channel?
not for this specific vehicle but I have these one showing you how to compress the spring on a car ruclips.net/video/rto6fkBjE4I/видео.html
Nicely done on the video. Can you report on ride quality? This looks like a solid replacement. I know sometimes the springs on assemblies are not as good as stock but in this case, the spring appears to be just as good.
The owner said it was better than stock so I don't think you'll notice much of difference. For the price I would go for it
@@ERICSDIYGARAGE good deal, thanks man. I have a 2014 in 4wd so it's not quite the same part number but I was looking at the Gabriel strut/shock assembly on rock auto. I have spring compressors so I can swap springs if I want too but it's just so nice to just be able to swap the whole assembly
Great video. How do you know what torque specs to tighten everything down to ?
I looked up the torque specs on the factory service repair manual. You will be able to find it if you go on Google and just type the vehicle and fsm after the vehicle name
ERICSDIYGARAGE awesome thanks man 👋
@@patrickm9366 thank you for watching 👍🏻
I ha a question How do you know which one is the right or left or don't matter nice video btw thanks really simple know I feel like I can do it
they should have a L And R on the shock body
Arrow faces out
Upper Ball Joint.
UBJ.
Connects to the Upper Control Arm.
UCA.
Good video, but don't cheap out on that replacement Strut Assembly unless you're that broke.
It more than pays off in long tun!
Just replaced struts on my 2015 Tundra and after watching several videos I did not use this one and neither should you. Do not remove the castellated nut on the upper A arm and don't remove the tie rod end. Find a video that shows removal of the 2 lower knuckle bolts and you will save yourself a lot of time and headache. If you are working off jack stands like I was the only trick was to use the hydraulic jack to lift the lower A arm into place.
What brand strut is good? Have you heard of TRQ?
Yes I've heard of them I stick with kyb when it comes to shocks
is it different on a 4 w drive
This was 4 wheel drive
Where can I buy that strut at? Do I need to do alignment after doing it ?
Yes
my neighbor got it from rock auto. and he didn't get a alignment after the installation since it still drove straight but it is recommended to get one
Is it necessary to get an alignment job after installing new struts?
No
@@ERICSDIYGARAGE your video that you provided does not allow an alignment, great job !!
Does it require alignment after this?
No
Question?
Did you need an alignment after the install ??
its recommend to get an alignment however my neighbor did not get one
@@ERICSDIYGARAGE thanks.
I'm going in next week to switch out the 5100s to 6112.
I didn't want to align again it but it seems I may have to
I believe his truck still drove straight after this replacement but if you don't have new tires dont worry about it 👍
@@ERICSDIYGARAGE I am using the same tires. I just got them last month. Lol
They're definitely expensive.
yeah in that case I would pay the $60 bucks for another alignment
A guy is charging me 250$ per side in parts and he said its like 5 hours of labor. So in total with everything around $ 1500.00 Doenst sound right to me. What do you think is that too much?
sounds way to much my neighbor gave me 200 for labor which I think was fair.
ERICSDIYGARAGE thats what i was thinking.
I'm 2012 tundra is leaking, it time to replace?
yes if it leaking replaced it
My tundra is at 175k miles and never had a strut replacement. Probably time for a replacement?
Yeah I'm sure you'll feel a difference if you replace it
@@ERICSDIYGARAGE thanks for the quick reply. I ordered the set of bilstine 4600 but they do not come with the coil springs, does it need to be a same brand or can I use, for example, a duralast coil spring?
What about using a punch instead of a flat head screwdriver?
why remove the abs sensor and there is a great risk of it breaking ... just removing the quick connect is enough and no breakage $$$
was going to say the same thing all of my WSS's are seized in place beside the front ones since they got replaced 🤣
Those quick strut springs don't quite look right!
Why didn't you just use a spring compressor before removal so you didn't need to take apart all that shit to get it out?
because my neighbor was not planning on replacing the shocks so we didn't rent the spring compressor tool
@@ERICSDIYGARAGE I just tried doing this yesterday and it doesn't work anyway. Too much stuff in the way. I found that by disconnecting the steering arm, upper control arm, and sway bar first, I was able to do that side in under an hour, compared to the 4 hours it took me to do the first side.
thank you for your feedback im sure others will find it useful👌
@@Treyorrrr Thanks for the info
You removed more than you have to.
ok
try not saying "go ahead". Seriously, you said it 932 times. It is not necessary to say go ahead
Don't watch the video next time
