I was on the verge of buying the jpx hot metals. Then these caught my eye. First impression was that it was a comfortable middle ground between blades and bulky game improvement irons. When I hit them, they felt fantastic. Only 5-10 yards difference than the hot metals. Enough reason for me to pull the trigger on the hmb set. I'm really looking forward to my first round using the HMBs.
Yes. Absolutely. Include Lynx Prowler VT too. Mizuno arent doing anything revolutionary here with these hollow muscle backs... they need to be compared to the current crop of hollow muscle backs out there now.
Oh boy those look so good. So wish I could afford to go get fitted for a new set. I’ve played a few rounds this week sense I had the week off and for some reason I’ve developed a terrible slice. Especially off the tee. I try to play as much as I can but this year I haven’t been able to get out as much as I would like but even tho I’m hitting my driver dead right I Still enjoy every second of every time I’m able to get out there but I would definitely love to give those hmb’s a go. Great review as always
I really am thinking about testing these and hopefully purchasing these this spring. I have a mp-59 and mp-69 combo from when i was practicing or playing 5 days a week. I was a 3 hcp back then and now with life and what not im playing maybe once a week and probably a a 12ish hcp, I can use the forgiveness but still want the look of a players iron. These might be right up my ally. Ive been playing mizunos since I was 17 using mp-29"s, im now almost 40. Cant wait to get fitted to see if these are the best choice for my game these days.
Looking for some new irons been playing Taylormade r9 for 10 years now, was looking at the new p790 but wasn't happy with the strong lofts, think I've found the answer with the mp-20 HMB.
How playable are these for a mid/high handicapper compared to the Mizuno JPX919 Hot Metal? Are they comparable or are they aimed at a different target market?
Chris Lewis I was wondering the same thing! Im a bit of a magpie in a way I love shiny new irons, but I may actually pull the trigger on these if can slightly justify using them 😂
Hey fitter here, I havent gotten then heads but I have gotten the booklet with information about the moi of all 3 heads. While these are holo clubs build like the p790s they are definitely more of a players clubs, and they're moi is barely higher then the mmcs. For reference taht would make them slightly less forgiving then the jpx 919 forged irons. They are meant to have similar forgiveness as the mmcs, but a higher ball flight. So the hot medals will be significantly more forgiving, I imagine these will be targeted to the mid teen, to high single digit handicaps.
@@jakebishop7822 thanks. That fits in with what I guessed from other reviews I've seen and read. The similarity on MOI between the MMC and HMB is a surprise though. As a left-hander I had assumed the SELs would be 'above' me, but maybe I should check them out.
In the market for new irons after my failed one length experiment. My beloved Callaway x12 just have too much offset and are beaten. After watching your review, I Tried the Mizuno HMB today. I loved the way they feel, but I definitely don’t hit them as far as the TM P790 or Callaway Apex. I have dreamt about buying Mizuno blades for past 20 years but I’m not consistent enough. The guy there told me that they will wear and the copper will show after 2000 hits. I’m sure that’s not true as he was pushing the Callaway’s. These HMB are likely my next irons.
Ill ask the same question everybody else is wondering. How do these stack up next to the P790s? Are these a fair comparison or would the MMC be a better comparison?
Compared to the MMCs the HMB appears to slightly out perform the MMCs on distance and spin rate and you get extra forgiveness. Not sure why you would choose the MMCs over the HMB
Do you guys get to keep all of the clubs these manufacturers send to you for review? I was just thinking if you do you must have mountains of partial sets .
Hi James, just a observation, I can see in the near future companies leasing or having clubs on subscription to keep the new clubs in the market and with a healthy second hand market all in all more profitable for them, and might work well with some golfers just wonder whether the companies can keep coming up with good enough upgrades
I have mizuno mp-54 irons now and I am thinking about getting either the jpx 921 hot medals because my dad said the mp-20 hmb is a blade and won’t let me get them so we shall see what I end up with
Hi from the USA. Can you do a comparison of the following clubs? Bridgestone Tour B JGR HF2 vs Mizuno MP20 HMB vs Cleveland Launcher UHX irons vs. Titleiest T200? Thank you
Nice review! These are the most blades like hollow bodies I’ve ever seen. I have to say I’m impressed! Too bad I can’t try them ...except for in the long irons as part of a combo set! Would be nice for Mizuno to show some more lefty love! I wonder if it’s ever occurred to them that they might sell more lefty sets if they supported us more consistently? I’ve always loved Mizuno but have become a die hard Titleist loyalist because of the amazing support they’ve always shown lefties. Most of the better player lefties I’ve ever run into play Titleist. It’s no mystery why.
Hi James, would you say that these irons would be comparable to the Taylormade P790 due to the hollow head design? Also, what sort of handicap would you say these are aimed at? I play off of 12 and would consider iron play my strength, but still am looking for something with decent forgiveness levels
I started playing in may and have my eyes set on the jpx 919 hot metal... Could I get away with playing these instead or are these not even close to a game improvement irons?
My 16 years old son started playing golf 8 weeks ago. I bought him a set of Mizuno MX17 from 4iron to SW. It's a used set from 2007 and I got it for €131, - + €15,- shipping from golfbidder. He already played a 85 on a par 70 course last weekend also using my old Mizuno MX500 driver. Today he played a total stressfree 44 for 9 holes with only the irons and putter. So the MX17 are cheap and do the job. I promised him a new set including fitting for next year though and I think that will probably be those MP20. Maybe a mixed set with MBs, MMCs and HMBs. I am also considering the MB20s. Such beautiful clubs. I still play my MP60s, I bought in 2008 and love them, because I like the look, but the MP20s look fantastic. Could be I replace my beloved MP60s next year.
These hold the most appeal to me out of the new line. Spin numbers for the type of club it is are really good from what I've seen and they don't seem to be as jumpy as P790. How much of the back of the club do you see on the 4 iron at address?
@@canyonaro I love hitting the 4 iron. Carry 200-205 and it's easy to shape as while as flight it down. 3 iron never worked for me. My MP-32 is 35 and MP-64 is 34. 34 has been the standard 7-iron blade loft for at least a decade. AFAIK Titleist is the only one still at 35 (on the 620 MB). The T100 is at 34 and the T200 is at 30!

MP-20 HMB! The others are beyond my skill level!
Can you do a comparison video of all of the hollow headed blades? HMB, P790, i500, etc.

Love your presentation and your ball striking sensation. Bought a set MP20 HMB recently. Feel very much like your review. Thank you.
Having watched your MP20 videos particularly the HMB video, my thoughts for your fitting are:
4 iron HMB and 5 to PW MB’s
Love your videos by the way
HMB or MMC for me as high to mid Hcper but the HMB for looks in a forgiving iron 🤤🤤🤤😎
Looks like Mizuno got it all right with the new MP-20 lineup!
Up against the hot metals please James ! Great vids mate

How about a comparison with HMB and JPX 919 Hot Metal? As a mid/high handicap player, both are being considered...
The HMBs - especially if in the copperlike finish
You need a head to head of these and the i500. Looking at those clubs, want to get a club that will force me to improve my game further..
i500s will go further and be significantly more forgiving, these will spin more and have a more compact head.
Look at your scorecard, that should make you want to improve your game.

They are 2 different club types. The SC was marketed toward a better player and the HMB is marketed toward the mid high handicapper.
