Watching this VERY late but for anyone curious as to why basically everyone in New Orleans had and still to this day has an axe available: The axes are normally kept so, when there is a flood or storm, they can bring it to the attic with them and bust through their roof if the waters get too high. Learned this from my college professor who lived in New Orleans for a long time.
And not to mention participating in "no shave November" except no shave never. Or just stuck in quarantine, we all be looking a little like big foot or at least Harry from Harry and the Hendersons right now 🤣
Some lesser known facts I learned about the Lizzie Borden case I learned after taking the tour at the house. -A doctor in the town had prescribed Lizzie with large doses of morphine to combat hysteria. This could explain some of the inconsistencies in her answers. -Lizzie claimed to be eating pears in the barn but no pear cores were found. -Not only did the family eat a largely mutton diet but it was often rancid as Mr.Borden refused to buy meat often enough. So these weren't really good ol mutton days. The rancid meat often made them sick and at the time of the murders Maggie/Bridget was sick. -The jury was very biased as it took only a short time to deliberate and spent more time eating lunch. The jury also took a photograph of themselves and gifted it to Lizzie. -The Bordens called the maid Maggie because the last maid was named Maggie and they didn't care enough to learn her name. -The area in which they know lived is known for having good scholarships as Lizzie became quite the philanthropist. She also donated to provide poor families with meals. An animal hospital in the area even has her picture hung because she was such a frequent donor.

No that wasn’t sarcastic! I’m so sorry! Sometimes they’re like hours in, but I got to understand the joke like 2 minutes in! Sorry I really didn’t mean to be rude! ❤️
About JonBenet: I found it very odd from the very beginning that the police never sealed off the house. I mean, MAYBE they'd have an excuse if it was in the 1950s, but this took place in the 1990s. This case was probably very solvable if someone hadn't screwed up
Shane's existential crisis when realizing that he is, technically, a professional ghost hunter was priceless! Also, the animation of the day of the Borden murders reminded me a lot of the Rusty Lake games. I'd like a Lizzie Borden themed one!

Buzz feed itself tbh is too fadish though when they were interviewing celebrities while the celebrities were playing with kittens and puppies was entertaining.
As long as they stay away from politics and just do stuff like Unsolved and “Here’s how people react to cute puppies,” then I’m all for Buzzfeed. But, at least they’re intelligent enough to not interject that content into the Unsolved series.

an interesting point i've heard about the jonbenet ramsey case is that it's actually fairly logical of the murderer (assuming it's none of the ramsey family) to have written the ransom note inside the house incase someone caught them while breaking in, as that would allow them to get away with a way lighter sentence than if they were found with a ransom note on them
I just love how shane can fall asleep in the haunted houses so easily, but ryan is just on his phone or whatever, probably too afraid to close his eyes in case something snatches him away
People seem irritated that it's just another throwback marathon, but you get to rewatch old episodes while engaging in a live chat. Which, by the way, during the last marathon Shane and Ryan were both active in.
Did you know, the iceberg the titanic hit was reportedly black. Most likely because of the recent use of fossil fuels at the time. This explains how the iceberg suddenly disappeared and was not spotted before hitting the ship. But for an iceberg over 100 feet tall, the height of which reported by one crew member, to sink a ship like the titanic is unlikely. As result many people believe a fire had started before they set sail which weakened the area allowing it to be sunk.
Where was the joke in your comment? You literally just wrote down exactly what the said. I don’t get the trend of subtitling what they say.. how is that funny?
i know the term is thrown around a lot as a joke but that scene in the new orleans voodoo episode where it juxtaposes between ryan fully thrusting himself into it all and shane talking about how he wishes he could do the same, that was genuine poetic cinema
My favorite “shared delusion” story was when three girls in my major all lives together and one of the girls would hallucinate. She talked about this woman she would see so much that the other girls saw the woman too - the major professors had to make them not live together anymore.

Fun fact: "Sharpshooter" is the lowest qualification with the rifle in the USMC. It's the lowest score you can get on the range and still be qualified with the weapon.

Criminology Ph.D. student here dropping in to say that the reason the Axe Man likely targeted houses on corners is that there are more exit points than houses that are not on corners. At least, that's what active burglars tend to report.
@@gentlecaringviolence if you’re concerned, there are ways to mitigate these risks. For instance, having close neighbors (more people to watch the house), having security cameras, having dogs (barking dogs=more attention, and may bite), and leaving lights/TV on when leaving the house (makes them think someone’s home)
Interesting. However, that's assuming that the attacks were random. Considering that most of the victims were Italian grocers, unless they were all in a close area where many Italians lived ( not impossible) it seems strange that they would be completely random, except for being on corners, and get that many similarities between victims.🤷 But I'm not a criminology PhD. What do you think happened? I've heard other documentaries that noted there were other similar attacks in the South in years prior to and after the Axe Man murders, usually near railroads, that some suspect are connected, or a copy cat of.
@@ella17734 It isn't assuming that the attacks were random. If he was going after Italians for example, he'd preferentially target the ones living on corners. They're not mutually exclusive characteristics.

Proof that Shane is a good friend is when Beef Man goes into the demon room, there is NO MORE MOCKING. He doesn't mock the literal lifeline while his very scared buddy walks into an empty room. He doesn't laugh, he only asks if Ryan is okay and gently tells Ryan he can come out. He'll scream and coax out demons and ghouls all he can when he's standing beside his buddy, but whenever they do their alone times, or when Ryan reaches a certain scared threshold, Shane stops and is kind and supportive in his own way. I love it.

Very true. Caitlyn Doughty (Ask a Mortician) made a very substantial video on how ignorance toward indigenous cultures and their traditions have been painted as “aliens”
A lot of them are based in racism as many colonial powers such as Great Britain often used older versions of ancient alien theories to discredit indigenous populations they captured and to break the pride of local peoples. It’s kind of sad to see Ryan promote them here on buzzfeed and him never went back to acknowledge that this episode was essentially filled with pseudoscience and lies that can really hurt people.

Next season I’d love to see unsolved do the True Crime Case of William Tyrrell; a continuous Australian mystery about the disappearance of William. When you look into the case it’s got extremely strange circumstances leading to his disappearance.
While watching this episode, Shane's fear of somebody shooting him up with substances against his will, Ryan says it's irrational. Now astroworld happened where people were randomly doing exactly that to people. How ironic and sad is that😣

an interesting point i've heard about the jonbenet ramsey case is that it's actually fairly logical of the murderer (assuming it's none of the ramsey family) to have written the ransom note inside the house incase someone caught them while breaking in, as that would allow them to get away with a way lighter sentence than if they were found with a ransom note on them
It was the brother who killed Jonbenet and his parents helped cover it up

all i know is when someone says a ship is "unsinkable" the ocean proves them very wrong
Sounds suspiciously like the titanic. ;)

Well damn. I live on a corner.
I’m a criminal justice student as well and was going to say this!

A *bit?* The vast majority of them discredit anything done by not-white people as impossible without outside help.
Very true. Caitlyn Doughty (Ask a Mortician) made a very substantial video on how ignorance toward indigenous cultures and their traditions have been painted as “aliens”
I always skip the alien episode for this exact reason
A lot of them are based in racism as many colonial powers such as Great Britain often used older versions of ancient alien theories to discredit indigenous populations they captured and to break the pride of local peoples.
