Rock Fishing In Scotland For Mackerel & Wrasse!!

- In this adventure me and Nick headed down the South West of Scotland in search of Mackerel, Wrasse and Pollock! Before we ventured we managed to dig up some nice sized Ragworm for the trip, fortunately we managed to get our target species. The Mackerel were in vast numbers and they were taking Lures and even ragworm. This was a extremely fun session using a mixture of Lures and bait on the light rock fishing setups we have, hopefully you guys enjoy the upload as much as we did filming it 😁

A good tip is get a big bait needle . Get blow lug and slide it on first then cut a 1-2” of rag worm to tip it off . The rag bleeding attracts fish and it stops the blow lug falling off the hook . You can use a sea float that slides to get deep down in the water ( use a bigger float and live bait for hitting big fish )
Thanks Paul, really appreciate the advice mate, will try this next time I’m on the rocks 🤘🏻🎣
Excellent session again Mike!!! 👍👍👍
Thanks Nicholas always appreciate your comments mate 🤘🏻🎣
Nice variety of fishing Michael, loving your vids mate, keep up the great work.
Thanks Doug always appreciate it,means a lot coming from you mate 🤘🏻🎣
Excellent again mate, good to know the mackerel are on the move
Thanks mate, it was a great little day to spend a few hours fishing, and I was very surprised with the mackerel showing up early! 😁
Im watching from Tunisia keep up the good work
That’s awesome, thank you man, I’ve been to Tunisia many years ago, I can imagine the fishing over there is brilliant!
What a great way to spend a few hours
Couldn’t agree anymore Michael, the weather was also a bonus 😁
i camp there regular, for the last cpl month bass are being caught from the rocks at the opposite end of the bay to where you lads were. the beach doesnt produce much but dogs tho
@@Stripey-ftm That’s awesome! Next time I go I really want a bass! Is there no Conger at all then? I have never bait fished it with a beach caster before but I thought it could produce a few eels or maybe even a Tope at the right time of year? Or is that wishful thinking 😂
Enjoyed that mate keep them coming
Thank you Davy, really appreciated 🤘🏻🎣
Well done lads! You really earned that Wrasse! Very impressed as a useless rock/sea angler I'd have been over the moon!
Every time I try a mark like that with Jig heads or fly on a sinking line, I just lose loads of tackle and go home pissed off!!
You might have inspired me to dig some rag now I've seen the territory, and use it on holiday in Sutherland 👍
Thank you Dave, always appreciate your comments mate, and as for the wrasse I felt like it was such a slow day in terms of catching them, normally you’d end up with a hell of a lot more than that, I reckon the tides or the sun may have had something to do with it possibly? But in the end as you said we managed to get the target species which I was extremely happy about Dave 😁
Good to see the mackies are in
Hi Paul, I must admit I was a bit surprised, this was at the start of May, normally where i fish the mackerel aren’t in usually till July or August from the shore! Was pretty cool as prior to catching them there was lots of baitfish moving around to the rock edges 😁
Good trip out guys…. That’s fishing 🎣
Thanks Stio always appreciate your comments mate, your right that’s fishing and that we love it 🤘🏻🎣
Great vid guys
Thank you Lewis 🤘🏻🎣
Good session lads, I’m going up to Ardnamurchan and the Isle of Skye in September, you’ve given me some very useful tips for lures and bait, keep up the brilliant vids.
Thank you very much mate really appreciate it, I was up at the Isle of Skye 2 years ago and the pollock fishing was phenomenal! I hope you have some great sessions up there in September mate and fingers crossed you get the weather too, tightlines John 🤘🏻🎣
I have some Berkley sandworms. Never saw any here in the states in nature. Looking forward to try them out this summer.
Hopefully you get a few fish on them, I’ve had pollock on Berkeley sand worms here in Scotland 🤘🏻🎣
That spot looks unreal, would have been happy with the mackerel alone but lovely wrasse at the end there. Need to get hunting for my own rag but not really sure where to look to be honest. Wee video idea for you maybe. Videos are class man keep it up.
Cheers man, and yeah this spot just screams wrasse and pollock! The depth here at high water is crazy! Unfortunately this wasn’t the greatest session I’ve had at the area, was expecting plenty more wrasse, but that’s fishing for you, and really appreciate your comments mate, also looking forward to your next upload 🤘🏻🎣
Just found your vids mate, very good. I’m up in Skye so going to try and get some fishing done whenever summer starts😂 All the best👍
@@Abeyptfc Really appreciate it mate! Hopefully you get some decent fish, tightlines 🤘🏻
Beautiful Makerel what a shame your throw them back! Amazing tucker!
Thanks Andy, if I have a spare plastic bag with me I tend to keep some usually, 🤘🏻🎣
@@theanglingfront If I'm stuck I'll use a stick and snap it off at the joint to form a sort of hook shape, then slide the fish on that through the gills and out the mount. Or do the same with some string/fishing line. Old School Way
@@andy6588 ah nice, very primitive mate 🤘🏻🎣
o nooo, just you keep them mackies over there mate 😂😂 yous got a perfect afternoon 4 it, those ballans fight like thunder at least you got on them on the end mate 👍👍
Thanks WTC, how have you been?
@@theanglingfront half dead mate they wee fella brought me covid from school and ive been floored for weeks!! onwards and sideways n all mate! see bit of calm weather comin soon suit us for our trouty friends 👍👍🎣
@@whitetroutchannel Ah sorry to hear that mate, hopefully you recover very soon! And yeah mate, looking forward to seeing the last of this wind so we can give the Trout a real go!! 🤘🏻🎣
@@theanglingfront i dunno mate hes gave me every illness know to man this year 🤣🤣 its no great that direction comin n/nw mate, i think that bloody otter done half my trout thou its better than constant seals for a change 🤣🤣
@@whitetroutchannel 😂😂 Aye, last time I was out for them a few weeks back I literally had a seal follow me up and down the foreshore, I even made the effort to walk 3 miles, yet somehow the seal always found me!! Was absolutely ragin mate 😂
Great session mate👍 cant believe mackerel are showing up already, the place you parked the car, any chance of the location as it looked amazing to launch my kayak.
Thanks mate and I was also surprised too! And it’s the mull of Galloway mate, near Stranraer, my brother drove up and i was asleep most of the journey 😂
The mog is full of good launch sites east tarbet that ones called chapel roisin bay ardwell bay port Logan to name. A Few
i will be in that very spot in august cant wait
Great stuff mate, hopefully you get the same weather as we did! The scenery was absolutely first class too 🤘🏻🎣
Excellent michael. You should have asked. I'm originally from Stranraer. I know every mark on the rhins. Good fun and plenty of variety of species.
Thanks Colin really appreciate that, I will nip your ear next time I venture down that way, I keep forgetting that is your territory, bet you had plenty of great fishing round that whole coastline mate!
Worth a trip over from Ireland for a day or 2? Mainly fish for Pollack
Mackerel in already …very jealous of a day a fishing ma man …tight lines ✊
Thanks man, I was really surprised also, they seem to have been in feeding once we seen bait fish! I know down on the West of Scotland I don’t normally start catching them from shore till July usually, really appreciate the comment, how’s fishing been on your end mate?
Tbh mate works crazy the now haven’t had a rod in the water this year ..brothers had a few trout in creeks and small burns but than that been quiet buddy …am so shocked with the mackerel ( global warming ) …but another amazing video and that wrasse looked a belter 👍
@@scooge8630 Thank you mate really appreciate that, I’m hoping you manage to find a bit of time to finally wet a line this year! Tightlines mate
Much better than the scabby ones you can buy from shops
Yeah, they looked good quality, I’m still quite surprised they were in this early to catch, normally I don’t see them till July,
Intrested in starting a bit for fishing off the rocks like this I live in the Edinburgh area do you know any good spots on the east coast . Also where about where you fishing in this vid . Cheers mate
Hi mate, I’ve never really fished the east coast, it’s unknown territory for me, would maybe like to try there in the future however! This is the mull of Galloway buddy, brilliant deep water, usually fishes well for Pollock and Wrasse but when I went up it wasn’t as productive as it usually is, but hey that’s fishing for you, was still a great day out with my Brother 🤘🏻🎣
@@theanglingfront thanks for your feedback mate . Currently on Holliday in an area called south Erradale near Gairloch . Been fishing off the rocks all week and caught a tone of pollock all week so not been to bad
@@Castlevales That sounds incredible! Have the Pollock been of decent size?
@@theanglingfront had 1 really nice one about 3 4 pounds the rest just about 1 1 and a half . But been good out on the rocks no matter what
@@Castlevales That’s great! I’m hoping to get out later today, the weather is finally in my favour for once 😂😁
Great video as always. Michael do you follow fishing with cal? He's a Guernsey based angler. Check him out. Does good catch and cooks
Hi Mick, really appreciate that, and yeah I’ve seen a few of his vids, I haven’t watched one of his catch and cooks before will definitely have a watch of them, but I love his bass fishing videos
this plays looks class. where about is it?
Hi Mario, this is Mull of Galloway, thanks for commenting it’s really appreciated my friend 🤘🏻🎣
Hi Where about was this ?
@@RossMcCarvill Hi mate, this is the Mull of Galloway 🤘🏻🎣🏴
Where about it?
Mull of Galloway man
Fished the flat rock off the mull years ago and my friend hooked into something twice on his beech road that nearly pulled him in!I rek it was a very big skate!
That’s awesome! There’s some decent Tope there too! But it’s been years since I’ve taken the beach caster there, might actually do it soon,
Where abouts is this
@@davidroach9704 mull of Galloway
@@theanglingfront looks smashing
@@davidroach9704 Yeah it was a nice day out, wish the fishing was a bit more productive, but can’t complain, scenery was absolutely stunning
A great session with lots of macks! One tip I have for you guys is to chop up the smaller mackerel as bait (if its legal) and then toss it out on a big hook as pollock bait. I do that often with sunfish and perch heads (the ones I keep) and it always catches me something good like a catfish or walleye.
Thanks Steve appreciate it and thanks for the tip, will need to use this!!

30 seconds of ads is a joke mate
Hi Ross, I don’t know how I can change it?
@theanglingfront same on alot of youtube vids now. Pain in arse
Suffering ads, is the price you pay for watching something decent. Go premium to avoid ads.
You think 30 seconds of ads to watch a FREE 10 minute fishing video is "a joke" 😂 I'm surprised you didn't expect a fresh mackerel in the post for enduring them 30 seconds of pain.
Cry more😂
