@RF-JWT Oh, sorry. Yeah, people consider Nadal to be good returner because he's a good baseliner. Two very different things. Nadal's returns on grass, hard AND clay: takes it as late as possible and floats it up with ridiculous top spin to go as high as possible without making it into a smash for his opponent.
Everyone saying Nadal is a better returner than Federer is dead wrong. Nadal has a better winning percentage for return points and return games because he is the best ever in neutral baseline rallies; however, when we isolate the return in and of itself, we can see that Federer is a much better returner than Rafa. Rafa has been upset on numerous occasions on grass because of his inability to return big serves. His long backswing makes it difficult to neutralize big serves and his return position really opens up the angles for big servers. Rafa's return position is only advantageous on the clay. On all other surfaces, Federer is a superior returner of serve.
1. Hewitt 2. Agassi 3. Djokovic 4. Chang 5. Murray 6. Nalbandian 7. Ferrer 8. Nishikori 9. Davydenko 10. Nadal. Also Ken Rosewell and Jimmy Connors were amazing in different era's.
Isner who is a generational player with one of the biggest serve ever saying that djokovic its not only the n1 returner but n2 and 3 aswell says it all. .
Federer hits great return patches from time to time and is a master of defusing the big servers over his carreer. I dont see him on that list though because i myself remember too many games/sets/matches where he either returned horribly or didnt even put returns in play on big points. If you take federer of 2017 - maybe yes, but it s not fair to the others who have returned well over their entire carreers

I'll bet many old timers started out by hoping Agassi was on the list, then hoping he would make the top 5, then top 3, and finally being disappointed when he made #2. And then nodding their heads in agreement when they saw #1.
Nalbandian should be in the top 3, with Agassi and Djokovic. In a way he's even better because he is equally awesome at punishing second serves and neutralizing fast first serves.
Agassi better than all those guys, even Djokovic. He was playing on faster courts with guys coming in behind big serves. He had less time to work with and a smaller window to hit into. These days, it's just get the return back in play because they don't have to worry about guys coming in behind their serves consistently.
The most impressive natural reflexes are the ones of agassi, chang and nalbandian.. Look at the timing of their preparation. The taller players have an advantage thanks to their reach and power.
According to statistics, this is the list of the players which have the best % of returngames won: 1. Coria - 35,3% 2. Nadal - 33,6% 3. Berasategui - 32,4% 4. Djokovic - 32,0% 5. Jordi Arrese - 31.8% 6. Andre Agassi - 31,7% 7. Thomas Muster - 31,7% 8. Michael Chang - 31,6% 9. Andy Murray - 31,6% 10. Sergi Bruguera - 31,5% Others in this video are placed: Ferrer (11th), Nalbandian (21st), Davydenko (23rd), Hewitt (22nd), Federer (55th).......so Federer is not exactly the most effective returner on the tour.
If you think of the return as just one shot, then it is ok to place Nadal like it is in this video (maybe Top 5). If you think about the return game, Nadal as the video says is the 2nd best returner of all time (% of return games won) which is actually what matters. You could say that Rafa's return is not as aggressive or that he does not achieve a lot of winners, but it is a perfect return for his game, because it allows him to start playing a baseline rally and then win. So each player has a different standard of what is a great return considering his game.
Federer has got every shot in the book and so the return as well. Nobody advances forward to big servers like Roger does. Nobody has the touch of Roger. You can cry as much as you can over his 4th position but he truly deserves it. GOAT.

Yeah, and Roger destroyed Rafa in 2017 (in that year Rafa actually improved a lot his serve) because of improved return and especially backhand
1.Guys, how ON EARTH you can rank Federer above Nalbandian and Ferrer?
2.No Nishikori and Goffin?
To make things better, I agree with your top 3.
i really like your top 10 selection here. ;)
I just see the title and it came to my mind Nole !
1. Hewitt 2. Agassi 3. Djokovic 4. Chang 5. Murray 6. Nalbandian 7. Ferrer 8. Nishikori 9. Davydenko 10. Nadal. Also Ken Rosewell and Jimmy Connors were amazing in different era's.
hewitt #1? What?
Isner who is a generational player with one of the biggest serve ever saying that djokovic its not only the n1 returner but n2 and 3 aswell says it all.
.
Borg, Connors. Wilander. Lendl ... I gues this was 90s and later?
Great vid. I would have added players like Coria who was an excellent returner especially on clay (where he was the best according to the stats).
Is Federer a better returner than Nadal?Nadal is the second best returner of all time based on stats. I think ATP should clarify which are the reasons to put Federer, Murray or Hewitt ahead of Nadal on this ranking
For me the best returner all time is Agassi, n.2 Djoko and n.3 Lewitt
Sampras has said that Hewitt and Agassi returns were absolutely aggravating to a serve-volleyer
would love to see under where they rank high on a certain surface where they also rank on other surfaces
James Blake Was Not A Bad Returner Himself.
Good Forehand Return.
Good Backhand Return.
There Were More Good Returners, But Can't Remember Them All.
Loved The Video.
Top 10 Best Servers Next. Some New Highlight Reels Videos Next, Like Malivai Washington, Alex Corretja And Maybe Many More To Come. 👍 🎾 🇬🇧.
i agree that world number one Novak is the best returner for sure thats one of the reasons he is still number one
“Nadal sits 2nd on the all-time list of percentage of return games won”
Puts him at 6th place.
@@TheNegligibleThinker-TNT How can you win return games without having a good return of serve?
I'll bet many old timers started out by hoping Agassi was on the list, then hoping he would make the top 5, then top 3, and finally being disappointed when he made #2. And then nodding their heads in agreement when they saw #1.
When Gonzalez goes for the return, he goes for the return
Nalbandian should be in the top 3, with Agassi and Djokovic. In a way he's even better because he is equally awesome at punishing second serves and neutralizing fast first serves.
I agree, Novak is the best returner!
1-Djokovic
2-Murray
3-Nadal
4-Agassi
5-Hewitt
Yeah. But kygrois 2-0 djokovic
Agassi better than all those guys, even Djokovic. He was playing on faster courts with guys coming in behind big serves. He had less time to work with and a smaller window to hit into. These days, it's just get the return back in play because they don't have to worry about guys coming in behind their serves consistently.
@@godpig3943 Dustin Brown 2-0 Nadal
The most impressive natural reflexes are the ones of agassi, chang and nalbandian..
Look at the timing of their preparation.
The taller players have an advantage thanks to their reach and power.
According to statistics, this is the list of the players which have the best % of returngames won:
1. Coria - 35,3%
2. Nadal - 33,6%
3. Berasategui - 32,4%
4. Djokovic - 32,0%
5. Jordi Arrese - 31.8%
6. Andre Agassi - 31,7%
7. Thomas Muster - 31,7%
8. Michael Chang - 31,6%
9. Andy Murray - 31,6%
10. Sergi Bruguera - 31,5%
Others in this video are placed: Ferrer (11th), Nalbandian (21st), Davydenko (23rd), Hewitt (22nd), Federer (55th).......so Federer is not exactly the most effective returner on the tour.
Biased because of % of clay games played..
Btw it is unbelievable that Coria is not there...
So you are going to put Federer but not Nishikori?
LOL. True.
How can you possibly defend putting Hewitt above Nadal? Other than that great list
On fast surfaces Nadal's return is not that consistent
@@vivahernando1 I agree with you, on clay his awesome but other faster surface, he's average especially his forehand return.
Davydenko is the best returner in 2006 By a huge margin should've wrote that
Wow, federer over nadal
gulbis ? nishikori ?
8:10 fantastich. lmao
There's a difference in having a great return and return games % won.
6:44 murray wanted to destroy that ball
Top 2 was evident : the King and his heir.
Federer has got every shot in the book and so the return as well. Nobody advances forward to big servers like Roger does. Nobody has the touch of Roger. You can cry as much as you can over his 4th position but he truly deserves it. GOAT.
Federer at #4, what a joke. Have you seen his joke of a 2nd serve return over his whole career?
I love Federer and all, but I really don't think he should be placed that high on the list - especially above Nadal...
James Blake is a good returner as well .
wheres nishikori?
In Japan 😉
@@gregorsamsa555 In Miami probably lol
Lol. Nadal is wayyyyyy better at returning than Federer
nishikori is a pretty good returner too.
Surprised not to see Connors in this list. I would place him near the top. Otherwise good list.
Connors! You should show Connors at least once on Tennis TV
ferrer, Nalbandian and Davydenko they deserves a GS tittle!
Is there an official stat for the player that has been aced the most? (Maybe the worst returner?)

They can't speak English so they talk in JAPANESE! hahahahaha… This video was uploaded by overseas. It's too sad for me because I'm Japanese too. I wrote easy sentence because they can't understand difficult sentence. Hahaha…
@tennistv, did you really put Nadal the 6th? Gotta be kidding me
Federer is a better returner than Nadal??? Highly dubious choice... Ferrer, Nalbandian and Corria are definitely better returners than Federer. Cant argue about the top 3
Yes
Yez
For so many years no one was better than Federer at returning the big servers like Roddick and Karlovic. Underrated skill of his imo, just other bits of his game are more obviously good.
They're also better returners than Nadal too
@@oliverrooney6409 Federer is a great reader of serve, tends to return better against bigger servers, but lacks consistency
Okay, this video would be fine if they put “in no particular order” somewhere
