Hey Brian, a trick we used in the Marines when we were in Afghanistan for urination facilities , 4" PVC pip at a 45 degree angle set in the groung about 3' , kept the smell away usually and would filter into the ground. Just a friendly tip sir.
Pretty sure that hole is not neartly deep and big enough. If i remember correctly, at least 15 feet are recommended. And that is with changing the location after a time.
From experiance: ventilation is your friend. And not just the top! Having air flow at the bottom and top of the out house will make a huge impact on odor.
Hi Brian, use Lime after a number 2. I have built several out houses in different regions, and we have a bucket (with lid) of lime and a scooper. Only takes a single scoop over the top of the feces and off you go. It helps it breakdown quickly, so a hole as deep as the one you dug will last a couple years at least.
Couple of years lmao. Usually people do a 4 foot by 4 foot hole 6 feet deep and you'll fill that up in a year or two with any regularity. That little hole will fill up in a week
You don’t need a hole .. watch Swedish outhouse videos .. 5 gallon bucket .. collect a weeks worth of moss and dirt .. put it on your doings when you go … it dehydrates all solids taking smell away 100% .. take 2 people 1 plus week to fill a 5 gallon.
Cordless post-hole auger... about $200-$300 bucks from Home Despot or Lowes. You could make that 6ft hole and it would be worth the investment for the future if you need to place posts anywhere else in your builds.
Hi Brian, Kris M. from Ct, We grew up with an old functioning outhouse ! In side we had a bag of Lime, the top open with a plastic cup inside . After you deposit your contribution into mother earth sprinkle a little lime on top. This should help keep the unpleasant aroma to a minimum. Looking forward to watching you build your little slice of the pie ! Good luck
FYI desert rats: No more digging holes in the desert! Unfortunately, southwest visitation numbers are so high, that those enjoying this beautiful area are now going to have to Pack It Out! Too many people in a fragile desert environment means it can't handle all the poop! So for all of us who love Moab and similar locations, please plan accordingly. You may even see WAG bags at trailheads and campgrounds without toilets. So if you're living the van life and want to see these areas, be sure to come prepared. That way, you can "go" prepared!!! The book "How to Poop in the Woods" may need some updating. The use of "growlers" and other portable "facilities" have been standard river running fare for decades. Well it's now time for the rest of the traveling population to get with the routine.
Whenever you leave for a longer period, pour a few gallons of water in with a box of Ridex. The enzymes will eat the doo doo. Did that at my cabin for years.
So, you just overlap the fence boards a bit? They are flat on both sides, right? My ex built a shed and just stacked them one on top of the obher, not "shingled.
maybe it would be an idea to send this video to AOC. Maybe she has not built any because she doesn't know how. She was elected for one reason and one reason only, to build many of these toilets in her district for bar patrons.
lol used something similar in South African Defence force. They were tapered with a funnel style top. Same thing at 45Degrees. We called them a piss Lilly 'cause they were yellow PVC
Whoa whoa whoa! Unless I missed a subsequent comment, this whole we just want everyone to keep peeing in the woods is a bunch of shit (pun intended) for all the ladies out there. You clearly did not consult with the new wife because we still have to squat and try really hard not to get piss everywhere...no firehose - more like a broken sprinkler head for us. C'mon Brian..it's not just about the boys now ;) On the practical side, while the grumper looks nice I'll wager it makes it 3 weeks of all you being up there before you realize that hole needs to be at least 10 feet deeper. Hope it's at a minimum 25+ yards away from your water source. Goundwater seepage and contamination are real my dude. Loving this and so look forward to things progressing, but save yourself some heartache, time, and money and really research important shit (again, pun intended) before tackling these kinds of projects.
@1:22min in, what you should have said was "building a grumper to take a dumper"💩 😁 Love the signage, very Grumper 😅 And the 20 people that have disliked this so far....well...its obvious they have never took a dump in the woods😂
Heck I grow up with an outhouse an daddy never had to move or dig or had to fill in the hole. The chicken's an the dog kept it cleaned all up. So it all worked out keeping the ground cleaned up. Nasty I no but the chicken's an a dog helped quite a bit. So use in digging a hole. Quite helpful I can tell ya.
I never thought I'd be watching a video on building a dunny! Very amusing. Maybe with all that 'output' you should consider diversification into growing organic veg. I can see it now... a roadside stall selling rhubarb, tomatoes and celery. After all, you've got 91 acres to work with. In time the bike stuff will be a distant memory
This reminds me of my recent Downieville bikepacking trip. We found not one but two crappers in the woods in the middle of nowhere. They didn't look as serviceable as your Grumper though. This video had me grinning the whole way through. P.S. I'm planning on coming down one of these weekends soon!
As a former professional long drop cleaner and builder I recommend: a high chimney to create negative draft out of the pit and a bucket of lime flour to sprinkle between dumps. This will neutralise ph and make it compost more. 💩 ✅
@BKXC Just bought my first house. Turns out our water line had a leak in it and we ended up digging a rather wide 4' hole to get to the broken PVC elbow. It was not fun :)
Many great stories were started with “if you’ve never pooped in the woods…”. 😂
Lol
Funny see you here, love your channel👀
Protip: crap doesn't stick to rabbit fur
Oh yea. 1st time I tried shitting in the woods I was on acid. 😂
An ax can help with the digging here in Alaska we struggle with permafrost
I LOVE building videos, and I can't wait to follow you guys building new stuff. This is gonna be great.

;;;;;;;;;; 2 Esdras2: 31-100 ''''''''''''''';;;;;;;;;;;
Good Ole piss tubes, marines in Ramadi showed me that trick
6:30 won't adding stuff to it fill the hole faster and make needing to move the house.
No one had an auger to drill that hole? Could have made than thing 10' deep.
Trade the laser level
#2 is awesome towards #1
What is next? "I pooped today" vids POV?" lol
Classic the grumper is born..or should I say the grumper once here now gone…
Ash or lime help
Lol you’re supposed to find something to lean on to make it easier. Squatting in the open like that lol burns
Can this be the last video you mention pooping now?
Find a Yew tree and call the area the YewRinal

Name for the property: AREA 91
Where is the wife??

I'm starting to notice Brian half-assing a lot of stuff lol.
He's gonna end up moving that thing every week...that hole is wayyyy too shallow.
Wait until the bears find it
I agree.
From experiance: ventilation is your friend. And not just the top! Having air flow at the bottom and top of the out house will make a huge impact on odor.
Make a sign that says "Pee on a Tree, Poo in the Loo"... 😂👍
The Grumper has been a trooper. I've put that thing through some serious situations.
🥲
The grogan grinder!

Lime... Lyme is the tick-borne disease lol
@@outbackwack368 I thought I have put that, maybe a victim of my auto correct lol
ash and lime are basically the same thing. If he is gonna have campfires or charcoal grills he will have plenty to cover up with.
Couple of years lmao.
Usually people do a 4 foot by 4 foot hole 6 feet deep and you'll fill that up in a year or two with any regularity.
That little hole will fill up in a week
I feel like everyone needs a cousin Gino
Are you going to plant some lilac bushes around there to keep everything smelling nice?
You don’t need a hole .. watch Swedish outhouse videos .. 5 gallon bucket .. collect a weeks worth of moss and dirt .. put it on your doings when you go … it dehydrates all solids taking smell away 100% .. take 2 people 1 plus week to fill a 5 gallon.
Obituaries...Beloved BKXC mulled by a bear in an open-air Grumper 🐻
Called a thunder box here in Australia 😂
☝️Pro Tip : Dig the hole while you don't Need it.
Glad to see your family staying fully involved! You're living the dream and that's awesome.
Cordless post-hole auger... about $200-$300 bucks from Home Despot or Lowes. You could make that 6ft hole and it would be worth the investment for the future if you need to place posts anywhere else in your builds.
Great idea...I thought the same thing.
Air horn will come in handy when them bears catch you with your pants down!

You had me at hello! 🤣 you can add water to the hole to loosen the soil to help dig. Great video

Made a nice home for rattlers
No squatty potty/ toilet stool?
This way, we keep things green,😆.

How are you gonna keep urine out the hole? It’s impossible to poop with out peeing! Try it! You can’t do it!
So many horrendous puns! Endless potential [>
Now that’s a good thumbnail!
For pee just duck tape a urinal to a tree. No plumbing required.
Why did the craftsmen work in metric? Is that just them or are more US craftsmen using metric?
Does a Bear S@%t in the woods? Yep them and Mountain Bikers : )
I was worried the fires had affected you. Looks like you are good so far.
Same! Glad he looks alright as well.
And you didn't dig a hole when you had the backhoe there because...?
The open air grumpers I've used while canoeing in Northern Ontario were always referred to as a Thunder Box
hahaha that is great
I’ve used a few thunder boxes in Northern Ontario as well. The Temagami area has a few with nice views.
Quadruple the hole, you have no percolation there
Trying to eat my breakfast and listen to you explain grubbers is not appetizing😂
oh....I really want to travel to that place and use the Grumper....
An exquisite out house!! lucky to have so much help.. But wait, what? a two foot hole?? how can that be?
Haha, it's still standing today!! We went a bit deeper, but only used it for a couple months.
this outhouse brought to you by Ibis Cycles
Over here in Africa we call it a "long drop" 🤣
One word.. Backhoe, or a second word.. excavator.
Do me a favour, "go sit on something new" ;D
Still dug a hole! It can be done with no holes.
A clear roof … wow .. 200 degree summer poop
This has turned into quite a $h#t show!!!
Water will get into the wall and wet the paper …
I gave you that idea right bkxc
It's not even deep enough 😕
Use a demo hammer with a long bit
8:55 maybe a bicycle bell would be better
Grab a bucket of lime
Wait wait wait. Did my man really say that hole was just deep enough after he dropped a log ? 😂😂😂😂😂

Grumper Dumper? lol
Nice work - am just about to build one at my forest school/camping spot in Hong Kong We call it a Biffy!
That’s a small hole
No ash…. Moss !!!!

1:01 OH MAN I'm laughing so hard. Sometimes the recommended depth just doesn't work! 😂
Hahaha yep!
Wow I’m actually early enough to see the first 20 people admitting there first
@BKXC Just bought my first house. Turns out our water line had a leak in it and we ended up digging a rather wide 4' hole to get to the broken PVC elbow. It was not fun :)
Any deer
That wood is so nice. Keep a stain on it to keep it protected. You can buy a quality oil based stain above 5,000 feet in CA. Cabot is a popular brand.
Best outdoor toilet is a fence deep in the woods 😂
Hahaha
Had a Banty rooster guarding the out house. I would move left so would he. Same for moving right. His spurs was an inch and a half long.
We call ours “the devlin ” from the movie Just go with it. And thanks for using metric 🇦🇺
We live in a small 1 toilet farm house, no way to easily add another toilet, so we've been looking into outhouse construction, thanks for the vid!
I'd use a tractor with a auger bit to make short work of this as it's the hardest part.
You definitely need a roof and at least a six foot pit.
Have you guys done topography to see how property is shaped? if mot maybe a drone can work with recappro etc...
coconut potting soil additive, its shavings and works well in composting toilets,i.e. bucket.
Maybe a door and a roof will make it complete.
When are the pain and pleasure shirts coming back?!! They are rad and I want one…
😁
I’m going to take a trip to the property just to use the official BKXC outhouse

Standing in front of an outhouse, and says "Thanks for watching"
