I've seen your "first things to do with a new windows 10 laptop" vid about a million times. I've followed it just about every time I do a clean win 10 install and I'm honestly really glad to see you're still making useful videos like this.
I definitely set up my windows 11 home as a local account. Microsoft makes it difficult but as you’re going through the setup, give a fake email/pw. It’ll say “something went wrong”, and let you continue on with making a local account.
Thanks for this, I'd previously upgraded to Windows 11, but it wouldn't display the clock, so went back to 10. I just upgraded again and it seems fine now, plus I bought StartAllBack and the taskbar is now perfect with small icons (I pin all my programs to taskbar). Nice to have the start menu the way I like it too.
I would LOVE to see a feature that overrides windows default view. I am a minimalist and use almost exclusively the List view, but Windows a lot of the time switches the view back to the irritating Details view.
I will say the windows 11 search is about a million times better than windows 10 so instead of needing a complicated start menu, or really one at all. I just type in the program name or folder I wanna access and press enter. I feel like I can get a lot more done from just the keyboard with windows 11.
I decided to try out windows 11 and I really liked it. At the end of July though the taskbar got screwed up since there was invisible duplicate icons shifting over the centering. Most people only noticed the uncentered programs so it took a month for a fix that only partially fixed the issue. Other than that with registry tweaks and start11 it was great. Start 11 had a slight bug with taskbar transparency returning to opaque but hopefully stardock has fixed that by now. Would 100% switch back if it wasn't for the fact that certain things are just kinda messed up. Java based programs (minecraft) keep giving me all sorts of issues not being able to allocate memory properly, which is odd since they were ok back in July-early September. Nvidia gpus have issues with some openGL stuff used in certain shaders for minecraft, meanwhile they work on intel xe which isnt supposed to be supported Nvidia gpus crashing in siege (like they always do every second year). Seems like as soon as there was windows 11 specific software versions/drivers instead of just using ones meant for windows 10, everything uncommon broke. Oh right, and cutting edge vulkan functions are broken on nvidia gpus, only thing that uses that though is the paraLLEl graphics plugin for n64 emulators, and for the time being glideN64 is superior in pretty much every way. Id recommend it for laptops, but id stay on windows 10 for a desktop. Then again after going back to windows 10 Ive noticed some bugs with the taskbar hiding and showing, most people don't use that though. Still some weird stuff like the start menu not wanting to open sometimes and a memory error when restarting- which doesn't seem to affect anything whatsoever. Overall the stability is a bit higher.
The windows 10 keys work immediately in windows 11 without needing to install windows 10 and upgrading to windows 11. I tested it on a new computer I built and the new windows 10 pro OEM key I bought worked on a fresh windows 11 pro install.
I fixed windows 11 by pissing it off. Done my head in with the bugs and went back to Linux. Was not impressed with Windows 11. Good video by the way, love your work 😊
I had the oddest thing happen to me using windows 11. I soft bricked my pc and broke my boot manager somehow trying to overclock my ram. Took me 16 hours to sort out, luckily bios wasn't affected too much.
When setting up w11 home, you can bypass the internet connection selection by launching taskmgr through cmd and kill the task called network connection flow
So this is another "skip it until service pack 1" iteration of Windows eh? I tried to do an upgrade but failed the pre-check because of a MBR on my C: drive. Hard pass at this point. Thanks for the heads up!
Thanks Logan! I am building a new rig to replace my 2015 rig that was still on Windows 8.1. I decided it made sense to just install the latest Windows, but knew it would need some tweaking for sure. This guide was perfect. Thank you! Oh and also used your code to get the Win11 Pro key, thanks!
They're trying to get Windows ready for mobile devices. Isn't that obvious? Same way Apple are trying to prepare MacOS for mobile devices too with their move to massive menus and icons
This definitely isn't a tablet windows like 8.1 was. Yet... It feels like a more stable windows 10, that hides every setting behind something else now. That gets annoying. But having Android apps system wide soon, will help mobile devices. So I use moonlight to control my pc, from my fire tablet. Very little lag. But having Android app support, itll be like having a high end tablet. Without buying an overpriced and bloated tab S7.
So Im using windows 10 home that I purchased a few months back for my current machine. Is it not worth the free upgrade since I dont have pro? Or did I misunderstand you at the start of the video..? Thanks for the help Logan.
I like Ninite but it installs 32bit version of Irfan View for example, weird. And I basically can only use it for few software as I use alot of software off the list. It would be nice if they expanded.
I LOVE the new Windows 11 interface. I thought I'd hate it. I used it for a couple weeks and love it now. I like the rounded edges. The ONLY thing I'd even change in terms of visuals is some way to ORGANIZE the Start Menu programs better. I liked doing big + small tiles for Windows 10. But I prefer the simplicity of Windows 11's more "phone" style. Now that my brain knows how everything's organized it works well enough anyway now. Office programs on first page, top-left etc.
Warning!: at least on Build 2255 Ultimate Windows Tweaker 5 might hide all folders on D drive only the side folder menu thing works, and for download folder, the first files and folders were not accessible, cus they showed behind halfway into the bar at the top. I system restore will fix this. I don't know why it's only issues with D drive. I don't know which setting broke File Explorer.
Glad I am the only one that found this new interface so dumber? Glad there is still some good customizations to this. Didn't knew about the round edges removal
i've been on windows 11 for about month now, two things that have really annoyed me are the black screens, it does not BSOD anymore and give you an error, it blackscreens and your audio just chills in the background and requires you to hard restart, which is really annoying. It has become a bit more stable though, and then even when using smaller icons in the task bar, it squeezes the time etc on the right hand side :(, but I see choosing an an entire start menu fixes that issue :)
Thank you for sharing these things alot of it is very useful for a power user like me. Great there is a tool to fix these things. I already restored the context menu via regedit, but a tool is ich easier.
hi logan, just wondering if you'd recommend having an antivirus on windows 10. I currently don't use one but recently I've seen a lot of yt videos recommending sone of them. what's yours opinion on that?
I am probably a weird here, but i love the way it's the middle. Sometimes there's a need for a change I think. People hate the change, i actually think it's time... it's been forever dull using my windows and this is probably the biggest change in all of time since windows was invented.
Buying Windows 10/11 X64 Enterprise keys would be great. Could you ask the OEM site you reference to expand their catalog to windows 10 enterprise and visual studio enterprise?
Very instructive, thank you! But... Isn't it considered way cleaner to freshly install Windows instead of upgrading? It's a decades old wisdom afaik ;-)
I cheated and got a phoenix edition 11 And then began tweaking 11 but so far I kinda like 11 on my new and setup. I upgraded from a x99 xeon workstation to my Ryzen 9 setup and never been happier
This is a great overview on tweaking Windows 11. I would definitely try out some of these tips if I actually had a reason to update to Windows 11. For the life of me I don't know what everyone's rush to upgrade is. The only Win 11 compelling feature is WiFi 6E. Beyond that there seems to be a lot of issues with no benefit.
@@cis9222 I'm very interested in 6E for my home network, but I don't have a compatible router yet, and I'm not touching Win 11 until all the kinks are worked out.
I never thought I'd hear somebody call Windows 10s context menus beautiful, as they are still digustingly ugly and clash with everything. But here we are!
Logan, unless and until Microsoft stops with full spectrum dragnet data mining (TOS and User Agreement are Orwellian) I will never use Windows in my personal PC's again. Made the switch to Linux and in spite of the learning curve loving the freedom and choices. Aside from a few multiplayer FPS games with anticheat I cannot "currently" play, I do not miss Windows at all. Linux has improved by leaps and bounds these last few years, long gone are the days of needing to be a card carrying neckbeard to use Linux! No major reason to upgrade yet, imo... unless there's a certain game that you need a few extra fps in and Windows 11 is the only way to get there.
