    Another tip: Walk. Seriously, our hotel was like 3 blocks away and it saved tons of time and money.

    Watch for "sheep lines". A sheep line happens when there is a split in the queue line, but no signs tell you that both lanes continue. The sheep follow only one side because they don't know better.

    I'm not from the area so when I visit Disney I have perfected my Disney schedule to allow for minimal crowds and ride wait times and general exhaustion.
    I arrive at rope drop and stay at the park till just after lunch time when it starts to get really crowded and busy and too hot out. I go back to my hotel, take a nap, then return to the park around dinner time when it's started to cool down. I then have the energy to actually stay till closing without getting majorly grumpy from being at the park for 12+ hours.
    Seriously out of towners I recommend this. And it includes naps, who doesn't like those?

    • @kdm71291

      That may be a more affordable option, yeah.
      Or if you park in the shaded parking structure you can just go to your car to take a nap, haha! :-) (I've actually done that)

    My daddy was a dentist, well known in Pasadena, CA. From what I was told he actually had Walt Disney as a patient and they became good friends, I was quite young, but I met Mr. Disney. So My dad died in November 1966 and from what i have read Disney passed December 1966. Beyond my love for anything Disney and Disneyland I get a warm feeling inside knowing that.

    the plaza inn you can also get free refills/fillup with clean water, and the sinks at tomorrowland terrence, rancho, and mint julip bar are the same white dirty water that comes out of the drinking fountains, and another drinking tip is: most of the time at coke corner, and at village haus they have crushed ice in their drinks, which is basically a free snack, and if you go to a quickservice restaurant where they poor the drinks, ask for 2 glasses per person, they uselessly only give you cups with a 10oz capacity, half filled with ice, and its still free even if you ask for a dozen

    • @arizonaresourcequeen4128
      @arizonaresourcequeen4128 5 лет назад

      I like Coke corner myself. They will give you ice in your bottle or give you a water cup and fill it a few times for you so you can keep it cold. Coke corner is walking distance in between each of the best lands.

    A little hack I learned was about the celebration buttons. There is a wooden podium next to the queue by City Hall (where everyone else waits to get buttons) If someone is there they have buttons there too and almost nobody goes up there from what I've seen on my last few trips. Saves time waiting in line at City Hall for them.

    • @FatherAxeKeeper

    • @CharlesReinmuth
      @CharlesReinmuth 6 лет назад

      They also have them at all the shops on main street. Just go up to the pay counter at any shop and ask. Sometimes they run out, but I've never had to ask more than two people and its never taken more than a minute.

  • @GuanRytheFantastic

    David, I can't thank you enough for the Parking hack. I mean GOOD LORD!!! Coming from south on the 5 North, you get off on Katella, take a left on Harbor then you park, get on the bus and you're there! Best part tho....SECURITY ON THAT SIDE IS SOOOOO DAMN FAST!!! It's incredible! The tram is fun but this hack is so right on! In fact this morning (Friday) there were more people than the last bunch of times I've went, and it was STILL a breeze.
    Those of you disputing this hack are missing out!!!

    My favourite hack is waiting till the park is closed (that extra hour bit), then do my shopping~ It's still busy but I don't need to waste my time shopping during the day. We also take a stroll on a late day when the park is almost empty, it has such a different feeling!

    For my family we usually like to do all of fantasyland after the fireworks because the wait are usually always shorter. Also, the best time to go on pirates and haunted mansion is during fantasmic.

    Pro tip: Rope drop at Adventure Land, grab Indy fastpass because it's never running right away, hit Pirates, Haunted Mansion and if you're feeling crazy Splash Mountain. Then book it over to Big Thunder and you'll still be able to ride it more than once before the queue get out of hand. Then go to Indy with your fastpass.. All that magic before 9 am.

    I was homeschooled so this hack I'm gonna give was SO easy to do.
    Never go to Disney Land or World during a school break. This means, don't go in the summer, don't go during winter break, spring break, holidays, or even weekends. Go during the week; Monday thru Friday. You will be able to do so many more things because the lines will be about 1/2 as long. This also goes for Universal, SeaWorld, and Busch Gardens.

    go when it rains, preferably when it drizzles a little bit, or when it rains early, then dries later. People think it will ruin their experience and gives a sad time during the rain at disney. However, its the opposite, i went to DCA on a drizzly day and the cars ride started at 5 minute que, and peaked around 25. AMAZING

    Cutting through the shops on Main St. used to work. The right side shops (if facing the castle). Of course this was before Disneyland started putting up ropes everywhere telling you where to go during nighttime parades and fireworks.

    love the tips - and I've used each one of your tips since going to dl since 1979. one particular tip that I learned over the years is to immediately go to places like golden horshoe review and other places that require reservations before I do anything else - then we're guaranteed almost anytime that we want to enjoy the show.

    this was awesome video! my personal favorite hack is the wheelchair. lol yes i know sad. but it has advantage like the fast pass. i used the wheelchair since i was kid. no not to skip lines but i really need it. i have weak legs which makes me walk slowly and it hurts to walk. so with it you get placed in certain areas which makes you wait like 10 mins. they won't allow two wheelchair people on the ride at the same time. but with certain fall back it's pretty awesome.

    • @srayj
      @srayj 5 лет назад

      Shining Starz I wouldn’t call that a hack, more of an accommodation. I’m not faulting you because, as you said, you need it, but I have a brother with cerebral palsy who has been in a wheelchair his whole life. When I was a kid we were at Disneyland and we saw a group of young guys, probably late teens early twenties and one of the guys was in a wheelchair. We gave them the benefit of the doubt because people sometimes have physical needs that aren’t obvious, but then later we saw the same group of guys but a different guy was in the wheelchair. My mom actually ended up confronting them about it. So, I would say that if you need a wheelchair by all means, use one, but it shouldn’t really be considered a “hack.”

    That whole area between Alice in Wonderland and It's a Small World has some good seating all the way until the parade starts. It also provides an excellent view of the parade as it comes around the curve from Main Street. I like watching it right around Storybookland. Great video! However, cutting through the shops on Main Street during parades is definitely a hack.

    From my personal experience whenever in line for Space Mountain & the ride is down (or something of that nature) I just waited it out instead of abandoning your place in line because eventually they'd have the ride up & running in no time. The longest I've had to wait was just a bit over 15 minutes the minimum was 8 minutes or so..

    Can never go wrong with a chimichanga...well if you're only willing to spend under $10. I typically head to In-N-Out before getting to the park or if you want to be extremely cheap save your Disneyland aluminum wrapper & wrap your outside food. It's totally unnecessary since they've never checked me for outside food but if you want that extra security that'd be my dirt cheap advice👍🏽

    another tip that make the trip for travelers or non-frequent Disner's, do the Character Breakfast. Unless you want a to meet a specific character, the Character Breakfast is the best thing you can do first thing. Soon as we get in, gather all passes and get a fast pass for a long queue ride of their choosing. unlimited breakfast, meet some characters. great way to start a morning

    When I go to Disneyland early I go straight to Pirates then Haunted Mansion early.......I never skip it untill later as you suggested.....when I go back later I learned long ago to go when a Parade is going on..... the lines are short during that time day or night.

  • @CourtneySueChannel
    @CourtneySueChannel 8 лет назад +29

    My parents always had us skip the parades because the lines for rides were usually shorter while everyone was watching them. I don't know if that's true today.

    • @TheAntStudios
      @TheAntStudios 8 лет назад +8

      It IS true in some areas. For example, when Fantasmic is being performed, usually people who pass by the area just stop walking to see the show, and rides like The Haunted Mansion, Pirates and Splash Mountain get REALLY low lines...But you won't be experiencing that over at fantasyland :P

    • @MarkWayUp
      @MarkWayUp 7 лет назад +1

      so true - also, best place to watch fireworks is from calif adventure - from the bridge of river ride - great view and the park is usually all but empy by then - learned by accident, but count on it now!

    • @trishalee7535
      @trishalee7535 7 лет назад +1

      Courtney K. It is very true, especially when there are new shows. I was at DW Animal Kingdom a couple months ago, and the park was practically deserted while the Rivers of Light show was going on. I think that the Expedition Everest ride went down to like, 15 minutes, which is really short.

    • @jjakeyy02

      Well it’s 50/50 if it is old parade Mickey Soundsational and Pixar Play. But A Christmas fantasy parade if you appear in the holidays it will be shorter. And night parades lines will be shorter. Back to the day it will be long due to they have 2 showing times.

  • @SunKissedKrissy

    Well, you covered most of my hacks except one. If you are staying at a nearby hotel leave the park at about 12:30 or 1. I always have lunch items in my ice chest or the hotel room fridge and we go swimming and rest up. We return at around 4;30 refreshed and ready to hit those lines!

    I always find that the best time to ride Peter Pan is right after the fireworks. There is usually a line that forms near alice and wonderland during the fireworks and then as soon as fantasy land is cleared you get let into the Peter Pan line right away. It usually takes about 20 minutes from the time the fireworks end to when you get in the Peter Pan queue but it is still less time than the usual 45 minutes.

    love the hacks, going for our first trip in April and need aall the help possible!! Thanks

  • @Riceball01
    @Riceball01 8 лет назад

    I second the tip on parking in the Toy Story lot, my family and I started parking there starting a couple of years ago and we haven't parked at Mickey & Friends since. Toy Story is so much more convenient to get to and finding a parking spot is much quicker and easier than in M&F and, depending on when you leave, the line to get on the bus is shorter than the line to get on the tram.
    In regards to Pirates, the other advantage to going right is that side area on the left can get a bit smelly at times, like backed up drains smelly. It probably has something to do with the fact that you're right above the New Orleans Square Main Kitchen and you're probably getting the smell from either their trash or their garbage disposal from their dish cleaning area. Regardless, it can get smelly along the left side of the Pirates building so going to the right saves not only time, but your nose as well.

    I have found if the holiday in question falls on a Sunday, the morning is practically empty. Easter Sunday I was there at rope drop, and there weren't crowds until 2. Locals were likely in church and out of towners were probably sleeping in. Sunday nights in non-peak season get quiet too, when the locals have to leave to get ready for work the next day. It's kinda peaceful.
    also, the 'cutting through the gift shops hack' works best right before the parades, when everyone is camping but guest control isn't as strict. Less shoppers as well.

    The other thing about the Pirates left/right line: the right side is considerably shorter, yes. However, it moves slower. This is because that's the line/side from which they board the people in wheelchairs. So: it takes about the exact same time as the left side. You just walk less. I've often made a mental note of the people that have gone left. When it comes times to board inside, they're almost always right next to me.

      I agree. If you go during a busy time, like summer when the park is open until midnight, go to NOS and Critter Country after the fireworks and you can almost always walk onto Pirates, Haunted Mansion and sometimes even Splash Mountain because people don’t typically want to get wet that late.

    The ticket plaza bag check has been moved to Mickey and Minnie tram area so that if there's a prohibited item (i.e. food they want you not to bring in so you can be scalped inside the park) you can just run back to your car then instead of having to tram all the way back.

    Also, when boarding a tram, you don't have to line up on the sides of the loading aisle like so many seem to do...you can fill up that whole space, which may get you on right away as you'll be closer.
    The first time my X and I rode GRR, we BOTH went single rider because of the queue being so busy, and we ended up on the same raft anyway, haha. (Your results may vary)
    Good list of tips, Dave!

    Awesome Hacks !!!!

  • @umabari
    @umabari 7 лет назад

    Two more things. First, when you plan on riding Splash Mountain, GET A FAST PASS! The que is long for standby, but the fastpass will drop you right at the front of the line (or real close.)
    Second, if you plan on riding Radiator Springs Racers, the fastpasses go REALLY fast. Don't think you can just stroll back by in a couple of hours to get one. Also, if you happen to get into DCA right when it opens, go first to RSR. Some people will run past you, but the wait shouldn't be more than 30 minutes. If you like it, stop at the fastpass station and do it again later (maybe MUCH later.)

    6:56: "It is *not* less crowded on [whatever day]." This is absolutely true. I used try to game the system and tell myself "Well, it's the Super Bowl today, therefore fewer people will be at the park." This is *never* true. The only thing that seems to keep attendance low is heavy rain. Beyond that, presume the park will be busy or at least well attended.

    We were at Rancho del Zocalo and just wanted water. We got the cups for soda, with water and ice. We showed the cashier that all it had in it was water. She yelled (yes, yelled!) at us that next time we did that we would be paying the soda price. She said that we had to use the cups outside for that. The next day when we were in DCA, I asked the CM in Pizza and Pasta if I could get some water. I asked for a water cup and she said, "Oh, you can use one of the soda cups". One of our Disneyland hacks is to take in the single use lemonades (Crystal Light, Wyler's or Country Time) and add it to our water. Also, Rancho del Zocalo also has the filtered water.

    Best way to avoid parking: walk to the park

    These were top tips! I'm pretty much a Disneyland outsider - I live in the UK - but have been lucky enough to visit a few times and am glad to say that I've always parked in the Toy Story lots due to just thinking they were the main car parks...! That being said, I do feel I'd like to ride that famous tram one day, so maybe next time I'll wait the extra 30-40 mins and park in the structure! :-)

    I have to disagree with not doing dark rides in the morning. Of course, hit Peter Pan first and then Subs . After that I prefer going to Fantasyland and doing the little dark rides Snow White, Pinnochio, Mr. Toad, Alice, and Casey Jr. The reason being that they're fun, but they're not worth a longer wait that happens in the afternoon. Following this method, I'm usually done with 7 or 8 rides in the first 90-120 minutes, before the main crowds really start funnelling in. I guess this is to say that I don't mind waiting longer for the big rides, but I do for the small ones. Indy is totally worth the 60 minute wait. Just my personal experience.

      this is a matter of preference I think. But as it pertains to saving time, dark rides can be done any time throughout the day with efficiency. At worst they're maybe 20 minutes. But you can save an hour or more if you hit rides space or indy first thing in the morning.

    You forgot this great tip: when guest are watching fireworks/parade/ other show, you can go and ride some rides that usually have long lines since most people will be gathered up watching a show. I used this trick at the most crowded time of year (Christmas) and I was able to ride Indiana Jones twice in about 30 mins.

    Just a quick tip for Easter at Disneyland. If you want to go get there early or 11 am. This will mean you have access to every ride (excluding Peter Pan) with a 15 minute wait. It's an easy hack for a holiday at Disneyland.

    I cannot recommend parking at the Toy Story parking lots enough. Yes, it is down the road from Disneyland but A) They have free bus shuttles to the park that are regular B) They actually drop you off CLOSER to the main gate than the tram does and C) You don't have to deal with how damn long it can take to get on the tram.

    I don't know how, but the last time I went to Disneyland we wanted to see Paint the Night, and we got to Main Street as the music was starting, but we got an almost-front row (standing) spot. Look for trash cans. Nobody stands behind them because there's only enough room for one person, and as long as you're taller than the trash can, you can see the parade with no obstructions.

    My hack is: if you are with others, you can still use the single rider passes - it is much faster and you aren't able to talk to each other on the ride ANYWAY! Two examples are the Cars racers and (what was) CA Screamin'... ain't no one got time to talk on them! :)

    What do you think of going to Disneyland on a Friday in January? As a college student, I don't go back to school until January 30. Originally, I had plans to go on a Wednesday and a Thursday on the week before I would have to go back. I changed it to Thursday and Friday on that week b/c I saw that Wed and and Thurs open at 10 am and close at 8 or 9 pm. At least on Friday it opens at 9 and closes a couple to a few hours later than 8 or 9 pm, based on previous years. I'm from Northern CA, so I'm out of the loop of what SoCal residents do.

    My favorite thing is first thing in the morning to get a fast pass for my favorite rides, like Space Mountain or Radiator Springs Racers then go get in the standby queue, ride the ride, then as soon as I get off, it’s usually time to use my fast pass so I can go on it two times in a row, though now that Maxpass exists I’m not sure that still works as effectively since I haven’t tried it since that system took effect.

    Some of these older vids are great, since I didn’t know of Fresh Baked until about 3 years ago.
    Coming at rope drop to Disneyland Park is still best, but if you arrive later than planned, stay until closing. Except for Space Mountain and Indiana Jones Adventure, some rides are anywhere from a walk on to a 10 minute wait. I was there on a 3 day weekend, a Sunday - back in 2019. I arrived to a crowded park at a crazy 4 pm (my friend was visiting me in Los Angeles and his rental car broke down on our drive to DL). From 10:45 pm until 12:00 midnight we had a whole run of the park. Did you ever walk right onto Pirates of the Caribbean and wait under 10 minutes for Stat Tours? We did.
    Also, no one has any respect for the Pooh bear. Many guests ride Splash Mountain, then walk back towards Frontierland when they exit. They never enter the Hundred Acre Woods Winnie The Pooh never has a long line. , Even when the park is busy,, it never has more than a 10 minute wait to ride.
    Matterhorn bobsleds. The wilder train is on the left (Tomorrowland side). If you want it a little more mild, go right. Both sides have a bumpy ride.
    Sorry for the long post. I can’t wait for Disneyland Park and DCA to reopen on April 30. Fresh Baked!!!

    Ive been telling people about the woody and friends parking lot, specially if they are in a wheelchair or can't walk too far, the bus will leave you very close to the stroller/wheelchair rental and the entrance to the park
