  • Words are hard to describe that feeling when you hook into some giant creek smallmouth! In this video I used a 1.5 inch profile grasshopper imitation and a buzz bait. Nothing like a top water strike!
    Lite action 6’ st. croix premier
    Suffix 4 pound mono
    Rebel sunburst grasshopper

    those cats were huge! When i was younger there were some massive cats like that in a pond we fished. i guess during spawning idk the middle of the summer they would all go shallow and swim close to the surface and you couldnt get them to bite anything.
    This was a beautiful area!

    Wearing themselves out is all well and good, but it pays to have a net. Sure you can get by without it, but I've caught a fair share of pike in the mid to upper 30s pushing 40 inches, especially in the spring and I hate wearing them out TOO too much. Even when I've got my medium action rod too they inevitably hit the ultralight. And every so often I'll hook a truly massive smallmouth and often in spots where it's just hell landing them without a net. Especially with treble hooks, I've seen some horrible happenings with people getting hooked while it's still attached to the fish and I'm not trying to experience it. Just got back into steelhead and I'm looking at a 10.5 foot ul you can use a spinning or centerpin with. I might pull the trigger even though I'd prefer a light action for the big steelhead we get but it's too perfect for drifting crayfish for smallmouth which I absolutely love doing

    Why would you be using 4 lb good way to lose a good fish, best one Iv caught out of the creek was 3.5lb and if I didn’t have braid on he would of broke my line the second he hit.

    • @dustinc30
      @dustinc30  2 года назад

      Can you cast a 3/32 oz lure with more than 4 lb test? I doubt it goes 15 feet from you lol
      That’s why you use light line and it’s much more enjoyable…anyone can horse in a fish with 20 lb braid on. You must not fish in the creek much….braid isnt very good in the creek unless you use a leader.
      The line will be cut on the rocks constantly with braid
