    Lyrics
Oh is he more, too much more, than a pretty face?
It's so strange the way he talking - it's a disgrace
Well I know I've been out of style
    For a short while
But I don't care how cold you are
    I'm coming home soon
I'm gonna make you a star
    Yeah yeah
Well he say he's into his music but I don't believe it
He just doesn't seem to understand the rock media
Well I know I'm not super hip
And I'm liable to take a slip
But I don't care how cold you are
    I'm coming home soon
I'm gonna make you a star
    Yeah yeah
We gonna make you a star
We gonna make you a star
Oh is he more, too much more, than a pretty face?
    (I don't think so)
It's so strange the way he talking - it's a disgrace
Well I know I've been out of style
    For a short while
But you see I don't care how cold you are
    I'm coming home soon
I'm gonna make you a star
    Yeah yeah
We gonna make you a star
We gonna make you a star
We gonna make you a star
We gonna make you a star

I love this track. I will never forget back in 82 my family was having dinner at some friends holiday house in a small village in the South of France. Someone knocked on the door and it was David. His Range Rover had broken down up the road. Our friends had been living in France for a while so they had no idea who he was. My sister and I fell off our chairs as we had to look after his daughter whilst they got the car fixed. Unbelievable memories. We don't make music like this anymore...

The whole workshop would sing a long when this came on the radio back in 74 when I was an apprentice truck mechanic. The combined male choir at "I don't fink so" used to break me up and frighten the office girls...great times.

Today it’s been seventeen years that my Mum passed, she was a massive David Essex fan and as kids we would all rib her about her love for him! When I began working I would always get her tickets to see him at Fairfield Halls in Croydon and she was always so grateful but it was the very least I could do for a remarkable woman, I hope wherever you are that you’re able to Rock On ❤️❤️

When David sang this on Top Of The Pops one of the other acts on would do the 'I don't fink so' line, and on one occasion Wings were the group that did it, which may be where the story originated, there seems to be some argument about who did it on the disc. The musicians said it was just anyone that was in the studio, on the other hand the McCartneys might have been in the studio. I don't hear any female voice in there, but one of them could certainly be Paul. In fact if he was there it was probably his idea!

    • @ultramutt8278
      @ultramutt8278 4 года назад

Doesn´t sound like either of the McCartneys to me, although it was normal at that time for artists who were recording next door to pop in & offer their services on b/vox, maybe some "extra percussion" & so forth. It truly was a fab time, because you really didn´t know who might suddenly show up in the control room. Now, of course, there IS no studio next door...

David Essex was a very popular singer in the United Kingdom and other European countries during those years, I have good memories, I bought several singles and some albums by him, I also like Queen, and especially that single you name, which I suppose you mean Because this prevented it from being number 1, but I consider that both are very good!

Oh is he more, too much more than a pretty face
It’s so strange the way he talk, it’s a disgrace
Well I know I’ve been out of style
    For a short while
But I don’t care how cold you are
    I’m coming home soon
I’m gonna make you a star, yeah
Well he say he’s into his music
    But I don’t believe it
He just doesn’t seem to understand the rock media
Well I know I’m not super hip
And I’m liable to take a slip
But I don’t care how cold you are
    I’m coming home soon
I’m gonna make you a star, yeah, yeah
We gonna make ya a star
We gonna make ya a star
