  • This is Apollo Helios, 24 April 2017-23 May 2018) my baby Sun Conure who suffered from Polyoma virus (aka French Moult) a disease which affects baby birds and whose symptoms include dystrophic symptoms. Apollo recently died from Liver failure.
He was the most affectionate little parrot I have ever known (in five decades) and I miss him with every breath.
In this video I am singing a stupid song I used to sing to him which would make him happy and he would usually do a little dance and bob his head up and down - as he does at several points at the beginning and end.
This video is of huge sentimental value to me as it recalls the carefree, silliness that characterised much of the time we spent together.
I have a disability and Apollo was my emotional support and therapy parrot. We spent almost every minute of every day and night together and his absence has left a gaping void of pain in my life.
He was a beautiful, affectionate, intelligent little guy who even house trained himself - because of his dystrophic flight feathers he was never able to fly, so I carried him everywhere and he would let me know when he wanted to go to the toilet by making a little “wuh wuh” call, and if I was asleep he would give me a gentle nip to wake me up. I would carry him to his cage or to the bathroom, say “do poopies” and HE WOULD.
    He was my best friend.
