    Thanks for the reaction!
    From the Greek "Kyrie eleison" - pronounced "KEER-ee-ay il-AY-iss-on", meaning "Lord, have mercy"
    The lyrics are a prayer. They're literally saying "Lord have mercy down the road that I must travel. Lord have mercy through the darkness of the night. Lord have mercy where I'm going will you follow. Lord have mercy on a highway in the Light!"

    From Song Facts: "Mr. Mister was not a Christian band, but their frontman Richard Page considered this song a prayer [note: Kyrie Eleison is Greek for Lord Have Mercy]. _'I get a lot of power from meditation, from being still and realizing that what I'm doing is insignificant compared to the universe,'_ he said. _'That's what the song is all about.'"_

      Yes, the "lord" word is also in kyriakos "(the house) of the Lord", a word that was borrowed into Germanic and eventually became 'church'! The verb is an aorist imperative, iirc

    The advantage to you listening to this version: You get the entire song (end vocals intact)...The disadvantage: The official music video shows them, they have great presence/are fun, but end vocals are chopped off. And "yes," the production quality/sound of both the chorus and the drums are amazing. For those of us who grew up in this era, this song never gets old.

    • @StevesFunhouse
      @StevesFunhouse 2 года назад

      I agree with you ... mostly. On the video, yes it's chopped, but that doesn't really explain it. It is a dramatic ending, and meant to be such. When doing things live, it's hard to fade out, because it just doesn't seem right somehow. So, 1 way to exit the song is to do it abruptly, which is the manner they chose in video. I kind of like it, to be honest.

    • @terryspak5763
      @terryspak5763 2 года назад

      @@StevesFunhouse BUT, they can do both, and I believe did, for this song performed live...because people wanted an extended version anyway. They could both have the extra vocal verses and do the abrupt ending. I just think it's a shame to ever take away someone's talent; if the solo or vocals are amazing, don't ever edit them out. I'm thinking of another song where the guitar solo is cut down to one-fourth it's official length, and it's a gorgeous solo, and...that's just not right. It's an insult to the performer.

  • @danjoda755
    @danjoda755 2 года назад +1

    For an earlier look at the Kyrie Eleison in popular culture, I refer you to the band, "The Electric Prunes", whose version was part of the incredible soundtrack to the classic film "Easy Rider". I bet you'd enjoy doing a side-by-side comparison of the two.
    Always very happy to see your new uploads, and stay well and happy. 👼😁🌹

    Interesting that you got Sting vibes from this. That was the popular consensus when these guys first came on the scene. Not only does Richard Page bear a slight resemblance and have a similar singing style, but like Sting, he is also the bass player in the band.

    • @ImpartiallySpeaking
      @ImpartiallySpeaking 2 года назад

      Safe to say they very much modelled their look and sound on the Police. Even the way he dressed and moved on video was pretty much a Sting impersonation with other bands following including Men at Work. ("Overkill" being just one such example)

  • @rolandvox2599
    @rolandvox2599 2 года назад +1
