I am in a similar position now, where I am contracting but it's still really low income at that 1k mark, but at the same time, I have always gravitated towards starting my own startup because I am very business minded. And I find that having these design skills is incredible for my disposition so I am now in the process of looking for 2 people who are prolific coders. Don't know if you ever thought about starting a business but with the income you're making (which goes a long way in saving to fund yourself) and the unpredictability of it all, a lifestyle business might be worth your while because unlike RUclips, it scales exponentially relative to your time and effort and doesn't have those massive startup costs. 10 or 12k and you could be doing something.
Contract work is amazing. Getting paid a lot more even though the ui ux field can be stressful at times I still love it hehe. A very fulfilling carreer ❤
Love your transparency. Its really hard for juniors like me to set expectations coming into this field if the only numbers you see are from the super vague wage ranges from the job listings. I know these numbers might not apply to everyone or me in that case. but it really helps to know what kind of things can potentially be ahead for you. Thanks lily. kiss fig 4 times for me please.
Hey Lily! I’ve been watching your videos for a while and they’ve been sooo useful!! I’m an English teacher in Argentina but I’m getting into the UX UI field for a career change. I know I need to build a strong portfolio. If you ever feel like making a video about portfolio design, that would be really helpful! Thanks for your content 🙌🫶
Damn, after doing UI/UX for about 3-4 years I feel like I’m getting worse by the day. Not confident in my abilities at all, stuck as a jr and constantly doubting every decision 😔
Hey Lily 👋🏼 I wanted to ask how do you manage your work-life balance as a UX/UI freelancer? I'm recently being offered a freelance role, and I'm new to that space since I'm used to full-time roles. By the way, this video gave me a lot of hope and patience with myself in figuring out my career. I love all your videos, and please keep it up!
Finished graphic design bootcamp that I signed up for after watching ur old video about ux ui. Im finalizing my portfolio now and im so happy about it. Lots of thanks to u
@@Princeton_James I did it through Shillington. I'm lucky enough to afford it as it's on the pricey side. But they do have scholarships that you might qualify for, or you might bbe able to afford it. Yes, I highly recommend it. Feel free to ask me anything about it.
Hello! I’m an incoming student with a few questions because of your video! I would so appreciate it if you could spare the time to answer :) My biggest nerves are about the job market and what the job would realistically be like in this field. 1. As a contractor do you work fully alone without a design team? From my understanding you handle the entire process independently! 2. And as I said a bit above: What is this job like realistically? I feel like I have a very shallow understanding despite the hundreds of videos I’ve seen. Like how in depth does the research go and how do you go about it? I really struggle to understand how much tech and coding is involved compared to design and understanding user experience as well and would love if you could recommend/give a break down of these aspects!
Hi, Lily! I really love your videos!! I love the pace and the visual design of your videos. The vibe is very bright and cheerful; which makes me very happy when I am watching your videos!! Just a random question: are you from UK or USA or anywhere else? I love your American accent so much because sometimes I can't understand British accent. 🤣
Lily, that would be so great if you share with your hungry junior audience what type of projects do you do as contractor, I am also looking for my first job as UX/UI Designer and ready for everything, just don't know what to put in portfolio to catch attention😓
Hi. I hope you’ll be able to answer me as soon as you can. I’m really interested in going into the UI/UX field in college, and I was wondering what major you did during college and what was the experience for you? I really wish we could have a conversation on this topic 😅. (totally not college deadlines in a couple days haha 😅)
I just saw another oke of your videos and understood a bit more of your story 😁. U graduated with Business. But what would you recommend someone who is trying to pursue a future like you, to take in college? What major would be most beneficial for a future UX designer? I wouldn’t want to waste my years in college on something I don’t really want. I wouldn’t appreciate so much any advice. Thank you very much and have a great day 😁
I watched the video with interest every moment! I have some questions. For that amount of money, do clients/companies check your daily progress? Are this kind of expectations different for each company? I'm a junior looking to start freelancing as I haven't been able to find a full-time job, so I'm trying to understand all aspects of it. One more question: do you design and then hand off the work to developers, or do you build websites using no-code tools? Thanks in advance! btw Fig is sooo cute!
hi idk if you'll see this but I need help URGENTLY. Is ui ux good? does it offer job opportunities and im planning to apply to unis in both London and Australia. Where do u think is better I study in and which country has more scope for ui ux? IM confused between business(finance) and design (ui ux) I took design tech and business in high school so Ion have much issues cz I have background knowledge but could u pls answer these questions ?
Please i need help lol, i'm a student and i tried looking for a part time job for 2 years nothing SO i started learning about web design to have an opportunity for a remote job or maybe freelancing but i'm doubting right now. Any tips ? ✨️

Love the video! Would you be comfortable making a video explaining your contract role and how to navigate invoicing?

So a mix of Aus and UK

I'm curious. Do you have a CV and, if so, do you (or are you aware if you can) put the contracts as experience?
Yes! You just put ‘freelance contractor/designer’ from X date to present and then all your most impactful projects and achievements
Your bunny is so cute 😍😍
I love your carier and your videos❤❤❤❤
Hi Fiiiiiig 🥰 He's so cute!
You are the best
I see what you did there! He’s Fig, you’re his Ma. Together you both are Figma 😂😂😂
