      Whereas brinjal actually came from Portuguese. Not at all used in english outside south n southeast Asia.
      Okra n eggplant in US english n US colonies.

    Firangi - FOREIGNER - Both Yes and No.
    FIRANGI ACTUALLY MEANS PORTUGESE. So Yes a foreigner but if a french person or English No.
    Angreji - English
    Francisi - French
    Firangi - Portugese.
    These were the names given by the Marathas and Mughals to Trading Europeans in India.
    Famous Phrase - Div, Daman, Goa Firangi betha Rova. Meaning - Portugese started crying loosing Div, Daman and Goa to India in 1961.

    Firangi ≠ foreigner
    Firangi = european/american/White
    Chinese , arabs , Africans etc are not firangis . Only white/ european/Americans are.

      Firangi comes from the root word Frank meaning Frenchman. Loan word from Turks/Arabs. First used for French in india

      @time machine The word "Firang" is from the days of the crusades. It's not an indian word.
      Since most Crusaders were from France, hence Europeans were called franks which later got converted to farang, Firang, firangi. No connection with rang or colour. Turks and rest Anatolians were as white as Europeans.

    Firangi is regional as the desi ppl called the British or whites as pale face.
    Firangi is hindustani word not used as part of english vocabulary like 'pass out', even in India.

    I don't think we use "passing out" phrase in this form.
    We always use it in past tense as "passed out" or "did.. pass out"
    - cribbing... I've never heard of it
    All the other words r used frequently

    Can you ask them about these:
    "Have you left your brain at home?"
    "Has your brain gone to graze?"
    When someone asks silly questions or talk in a manner which doesn't make any sense or talk in an inappropriate way then Indians use these lines
    For example:
    "It would be fun jumping off the mountain, wouldn't it?"
    "Has your brain gone to graze? You'll be dead in a second!!"

      Ahhh no, the term "passing out parade" is usually used by people in the academy like the National Defence Academy (NDA), Indian Naval Academy (INA) etc. Cause there they have a parade when they pass out of the academy.
      Normally in schools or colleges people simply use "passing out".
