  • Neil has got a new bike and a ticket to the Portes du Soleil! As an Ex-World Cup Downhill racer, he's more than familiar with hitting the same track, time and time again to shave the seconds and travel top to bottom in the quickest time. But when it comes to this area of France, that leaves 99% of the other tracks, mountains, valleys and bikeparks undiscovered, and un-ridden! So, with the help of his Garmin Fenix Smartwatch, he's venturing away from the Les Gets World Cup course, aiming to cover as much vertical descent as possible in a day, over a wide variety of trails and bikeparks. Will he get close to an Everest descent? 🧐

      Biggest DH day, 80km and -11,000m at Superbagneres de Luchon in the Pyrenees, same 1250m cable car each time, but different track down each time, 4 official DH tracks, 2 red and 2 black, pirate -35% single tracks for the rest. I even got a KOM. Not bad for a 50 year old. I was at Andorra last weekend, -7500m a day, thats just average for me 😅 not bad for 53 😉 I do live in the Pyrenees and race the megavalanche though 😁

    How pedalable is the sender. I'm torn between this and the torque but don't have the luxury of lifts back to the top. I appreciate it's not going to be very good pedalling it but is it just a complete no go or will it do to get me back up a trail. If it matters I'm leaning mullet in both

    • @lukasvrana6388
      @lukasvrana6388 Месяц назад +8

      If you need to pedal, go for some freeride rig (Torque, Propain Spindrift (can be 190/180) etc...) and has normal drivetrain. Pedalling up on DH is nightmare :)

    • @kingnormie
      @kingnormie Месяц назад +3

      @@matwetton i mean it works to pedal the sender, but you have to do it staning up and a 50m vert climb feels the same as 200m vert on e 180mm enduro

      Agreed with the other commenters if we're honest! The Sender is awesome, but it won't pedal like the Torque. If you have to do some climbing but love the descents it's worth going for something burly like the Torque :)

    I have a question about recording your ride on your Garmin. Did you just leave it recording all day including the lifts or did you stop it every time you finished the descents? I’ve found that mine can’t differentiate between when I’m riding and not riding so I have to stop it for every uplift. Or is there a setting for uplift riding?

  • @iokarus

      Hey Jono, there's lots of great bike shops with solid hire bikes out there! Just remember to ask to swap the brake lines around if you don't ride Euro brakes 😉 Bringing your own is relatively simple too! You can normally exchange cookies or coffee or a small fee for a bike box from a shop or buy a super protective airplane travel bag if you're going to do lots of trips.
