She won over judges with a sensational repartee on need for population control in India. She eventually turned down all modelling and acting offers to become a gynaecologist. I'd really like to see more women even in this day and age, if they are married to non Indian/ Indians settled abroad to persuade their partners to settle in India for any nationalistic purpose(related to cause or professionally), because it is applaudable. But this rarely happens, and I am sure this was much more difficult to do 50+ years ago. For that time, I think she did what she could do to her best abilities and I would be happier to see if our society has grown over 50 years to accept this.

    Yes, she became a doctor through her sheer will and determination but not sure if she practiced in India and tried to follow up on her answers about India's population. Dublin is not India. She deserves to be applauded as an Individual contestant but not as first Indian doing so.

    • @deepikastraveldiaries
      @deepikastraveldiaries 2 года назад +7

      Well as much as we don't know about her follow up on the population control in India, which possibly was not tat years agenda of work for the woman holding the crown. And also she didn't say her agenda of service was to bring the population down she just commented that she didn't support it. Her determination to pursue n complete her dream of becoming a doctor is more important. And about Dublin not being India. A woman back then or now or in any part of the world is expected to live with her husband, n not many men shift ways as per the woman's schedule n wish of moving borders.

      @@deepikastraveldiaries indeed very impressive response, but that doesn’t justify the statement “” India needs more gynaecologist & obstetrician “” does it? Why talk big if you can’t commit . Again Dublin is not India & will never be India.

    • @deepikastraveldiaries
      @deepikastraveldiaries 2 года назад +3

      @@justiceforinnocentfamily7238 Gynaecologist n obstetrician are not just for delivering babies. They have many other responsibility of understanding female hygiene, weight loss or gain, women related diseases and many more. So she possibly meant wellness of women, n judge would have interrupted with just wat he knew of Gynaecologist.
