Great episode. I agree Pogacar had physical issues when he was dropped previously. In addition Visma doesn’t have the team it had last year and UAE is stronger so Tadej won’t be isolated like he was in the past.
When I've commented here it's usually been in a bantery type of way, but I'm currently coming off a bout of illness, followed closely by a run-in with a parked semi truck that's put me on additional enforced rest at the same time as a painful and unexpected breakup. Watching you break the race down is genuinely helping me deal. Thanks, Chris and Garrett.
What Pogacar and I have in common, it took us both awhile to learn how not to bonk. He’s learned that lesson and has a better team to help him. I hope he stays health and continues to deliver on the Eddy Merckx comparisons.
Let’s embrace some semblance of reality and face the fact that this thing was done and dusted before Pogačar completed a solitary pedal stroke. Hopefully Vingegaard can return to top form in the next edition! I’m relieved Jonas has managed to keep the leaderboard relatively respectable, unlike the utter lack of competition we witnessed in the Giro.
I feel if Roglis was still in it Jonas would actually have a better chance because Roglis would be working with him in the mountains to bring back pogacar
Roglic would be close to 5 mins back right now if not more. He would have no effect on pogi or Jonas. Look at the affect remco is having and roglic is worse than remco.
I keep wondering why most commentators are seemingly sad that Jonas is not winning. Bob Roll in particular is always talking about the race from the perspective of Visma without acknowledging the UAE strategy that seems to be working in support of Tadeh. Frankly, I love the competition and it just looks like Tadeh targeted a legendary year and it's paying off. Last year he was the one with the broken hand and couldn't ride for a while, but I haven't heard much comment about that. Visma stacked their team but didn't get their key guys in the TDF (Kuss) but UAE doesn't get credit for massively increasing their team capability. I have to say that I love seeing the unmitigated joy of Pogacar at the end of every race, even often when he doesn't win.
Thanks Chris for the review. Once MVDP started his lead out it was game over for anyone but Jasper. WVA with Laporte as his lead out did well to come in at fifth given that in his opinion he had a bad day feeling the heat a lot- Nimes is the hottest city in France.
I think we forget about the situation of each grand tours. Jonas wasn’t vismas only option and tadej was fighting off a lot of attacks by himself the past two years. Tadej last year was injured and didn’t prepara the way he wanted to. Jonas this year is singled out it will be very difficult to drop him 3 min in this last week. But must say what a performance from jonas to be the only other gc rider actually up there with him 2 months after a horrific crash
This year, for Pog, the under-fuelling debacle happened on stage 11 already! It came as a blessing in disguise coz now the team has become extra vigilant in keeping him cool and well fuelled as they proved on stage 15. Realistically speaking, that’s the ONLY stage where Jonas had an advantage over Tadej. The next mountain stages are shorter and less steep. Pog might take some more time in the final TT. Therefore, barring any unfortunate incidents, the race for Maillot Jaune is a wrap! Thanks for the insight! 🙏🦋
Jonas came into this tour with compromised form and a compromised team while Pogi came into this tour with amazing form and easily the strongest team of climbers. When Jonas won, we saw UAE make many tactical mistakes while Visma had perfect tactics. In the past two mountain stages, Visma and UAE both had solid tactics for what they wanted to accomplish, and the difference was made by the quality of UAE’s roster and Pogi’s power. If both teams run tactics of equivalent quality (as in fewest mistakes), Pogi and UAE should always come out on top. Still, saying it is one thing and executing is another. This Tour is not over until they reach the finish line in Nice.
Yates, Almedia, Soler, Wellens and Politt won’t allow Tadej lose the yellow! Short of a crash, it’s a wrap. And I firmly believe he’ll actually take more time. UAE were knuckleheads early but have turned it around. Essentially since about the time Auyso went home.
Clever insight. Chris is saying that Pogi’s power duration curve is actually higher than Vingegaard’s at every point right now. In the past (excepting Jonas’s absurd outlier time trial), their power duration curves have crossed with Jonas’s being higher in the section corresponding to longer high-powered climbs. Chris is claiming that Jonas can’t outperform Pogi unless Pogi doesn’t fuel properly. That makes sense to me.
The logic fails are immense here. These are not electric powered vehicles on controlled circuits where you monitor their power and their battery status. It doesn't work that way at all. All of the "power curve" claims are pure speculation. These estimates are only close in certain isolated sections, not for any length of time that you can talk about "power curves" except as pure speculation. Read that again: Pure speculation. You might ask Chris Horner if he ever raced with a power meter because I'm not sure that he has. Also, saying "higher curve in the section corresponding to..." makes no sense. Just use honest terms like "seemed stronger" and so forth. Most of Pogacar's hiccups have been "bonks" where he came up short because he "burned too many matches" (in Chris Horner's lexicon) earlier in the stage. And the crash last year for Pogacar, who seems to race and train entirely on feel (this is also what his conditioning coach claims) thought he had the power of 2021 for the Tour's critical moments but he didn't exactly "game it out" because Pogacar has never quite raced the same from year to year in the "Tour buildup" phase. The point is that if you actually had the power meter data you'd probably see taht he overdid it many times and then struggled to recover. It's not like Pogacar and Jonas do lab tests each day where you monitor everything and the biggest "watts to kilo ratio" wins. That's not even close to how it works. All pro cyclists must manage what they have to win. If you, once again, compare how Pogacar and Evenepoel race in the classics you will see that these are guys that struggle with patience and have enormous "burst power". They have to worry about "burning too many matches" whereas Jonas is at the opposite end of the spectrum. He is always waiting for key points in the stage. Heck, even his race director discussed this as Jonas took is first TdF Tour stage as a backup plan. Jonas's power is highly predictable. With patience and planning, Pogacar would never fail to beat him IF he prioritized winning the Tour above all other athletic goals. Pogacar does not race economically. Jonas always trains and struggles to manage his energy to make it count for the TdF win. All of this other nonsense is pseudoscientific gibberish.
What I noticed on the last mountain stage Tadej was so strong but at the top he was completely spent. It looked like he could pass out leaned up against the fence.
By the way, Kuslet lost time, race points, UCI points, and Swiss francs for drafting too long behind the Visma car. The Visma sports director was also fined.
I kind of agree, Chris. But what I find a bit tough to argue is: if you put pressure on Pogacar all 3 weeks, he makes mistakes. You force him to get tired, make mistakes and also to tire out and not eat enough/properly. So, imo, their strategy is still solid, even though it might be as you said: Pogacar is better up the mountain even on long climbs.
K, I tried the KE1 ketone ester pre and post workout today and it totally mellowed me out, even energy the whole day actually didn’t eat the whole day! 27 hrs fasted! I only drank electrolyte no carbs plus I had 2 scoops of protein powder. Gonna try it again next workout.
For Jonas to have any chance of taking time from Pogi, Tadej must have a bad or unlucky day. If Pogi stays on his bike and gets reasonable support from his team, he wins the TdF. For Jonas to finish on the podium 100 days after his injuries is remarkable, a true credit to his ability. The remaining mountain stages are brutal so anything can happen but I expect UAE to control the peloton, all Pogi needs to do is stay on Jonas’ wheel and he wins
I agree with your analysis of beating Tadjei. Looking forward to the next 3 days. I don't know how many days he can hold 7 watts per kilo for 45 minutes again. I think the race will be really interesting and somebody that has been sick or not running on all cylinders could emerge
Hi Chris Can you analyze giro d'Italia women's end as well?? I think that the development of the race between kopecy and longo Borghini has been quite similar to your vuelta a espana in 2013!
I'm just wondering if Remco is planning to make up the ~2m + some on the last stage TT and overtake Jonas. Its certainly possible. I don't think Jonas has the training depth right now to peak in the last week and/or the TT stage like in '23. TP might be looking to FLEX this year and win all three grand tours. Maybe we'll see JV, TP, RE and PR in the Vuelta after a few weeks of recovery and training. one can only hope.
IIRC, Tadej said that he had digestive issues on the stage where he bonked. That is, it wasn’t forgetfulness or bad dosing, but the food was just sitting poorly in his stomach for unexplained reasons. I’ve definitely had food randomly sit like a brick in my stomach on long rides. This doesn’t mean it won’t happen again, but I think this is very unlikely to happen due to a “mistake”.
I think Jonas has only a remote prospect of winning this tour (barring the unexpected to Tadej- a crash or covid). Jonas HAS to attack Tadej. Why should Tadej change his strategy from Stage 15? Just sit on Jona's wheel when he attacks, draft for a bit, let Jonas wear himself out, and then counterattack at the opportune moment. I predict Tadej puts more time into Jonas before the final TT!
I don't understand how Pogi can bonk with radios, dedicated nutritionist and team physician, other resources, and the experiences of riding hundreds of stages in Grand Tours
@@mikeklod Hm…not sure it’s 100 % about the actual food, maybe it’s also about the “delivery system”…I remember last year, before the big bonk, he had a little crash. Then later he said, it felt like all of a sudden his energy went away from his legs to his stomach, something like that. As if the energy from the food wasn’t making it to his legs. So, maybe nerves, adrenaline…changing metabolism…isn’t there still so much that humans don’t even know about all that?
Interesting but I heart before that sometimes the stomach can't get it through to the legs. But let's hope Pogi wins this TDF.@@mithramastropierro4853
You are right and wrong. Visma can only drop Pogi when he bonks, but he only bonks when there is massive pressure or when he tries a ridiculous 30km+ solo escape over hard mountains. Anyways I think Pogi has it at this point. He could just ride defensive and carry the jersey home or he can try to take a few more stages and minutes.
Chris, can you do a clip on Ketones, the best time to consume, how much to consume, etc. I saw the Astana clip and it brought up more questions than answers. Thank you and pedal down.
Ive been thinking exactly the since he dropped Pogacar at mont Ventoux. JV has only been able to beat Pogi because he has bonked and in 2023 also due to his broken wrist in LVL.
SPOILER ALERT: Vingegard is "cooked" and can potentially be sorted out of the podium (depending on how much he's going to fail) - despite everyone can say, he sustained a serious injury which took a lot of energy out of him and prevented him from completing a decent training block.
I don't know what special favors Jonas is preforming to make you commentators always pull for him? But the true top rider will win this year's tour. Congratulations Tadej!
Jonas has dropped Tadej multiple times even when he (Pogi) did not have anything wrong with him. You conveniently forgot 2021 Stage11 (Mt Ventoux x2) when Vingegaard dropped Pogacar for the 1st time. Also the Hautacam stage of 2022 TdF when WVA dropped Pogacar and Jonas went ahead and extended his lead (Tadej acknowledged that day that his own numbers were perfect, and the better rider won that day). Also the Time Trial in 2022 when Jonas beat everyone but slowed down a little at the end to let Wout win.
Chris, Girmay's crash left me with a question to which I haven't been able to find an answer on the internet. If a rider abandons near the end of a grand tour but still has the most points at the conclusion of the race, are they awarded the final jersey or does abandoning prevent being awarded the final jersey?
I know it was not always the case but you have to ride very differently whether you wear the yellow jersey or you want to challenge it. It's a lot more pressure to attack at the right moment, pick your battles well, then to defend and just stay in the draft. Ofc I am not saying that staying in the draft of Jonas is easy, but it seems easy for Tadej.
I havent' heard anyone comment on the previous sprint finish when Pogacar was up with the sprinters until nearly the end with Jonas back in the pack. It was clearly an attempt by Tadeh to get some seconds on the finish during the sprint stage and was only thwarted by the fact that there was a crash. I thought that was a brilliant but risky tactic. Worked the other way around yesterday....
Jonas may be lucky to hold onto 2nd. He has been looking very fragile, particularly after he almost crashed into the barriers.. I expect him to lose substantial time Friday thru Sunday.
In 22 and 23, Visma also had two super-riders versus Tadej. In some instances they would tag-team Tadej and force him to cover breaks from both. The super-rider I'm talking about is Primoz, not Sepp 😀Without Primoz, Jonas has much reduced leverage.
@@janefreeman995 no. Wasn’t in the team at all. Jumbo screwed him as they promised him the Vuelta then put Jonas on the team and then gifted it to Sepp so naturally Primoz left Jumbo team for 2023 TdF was Vingegaard, Kuss, Kelderman, Benoot, Van Hooydonk, Laporte, Van Baarle and Van Aert.
@tonyg3091 yes I remember now....It's late where I am. it wasn't fair adding jonas but primoz was some minutes back. Jonas probably could have won. Sepp first pulled both those guys up the Angilru... anyway, he did make both those guys millions over the years and it is a team sport but I doubt there's a way to convince some otherwise. I wish Primoz would get some deep therapy with a top notch sports psychologist to stay upright and stop sabotaging himself it seems. Or something simple like where he keeps his gaze to anticipate. It's just so wild how often he crashes or looses steam at crucial moments. I was so hoping he'd come out swinging this year and surprise the various fans. Now that he's out I don't have a favorite.
Maybe.... Jonas is still getting stronger as the tour progresses and Pogi is losing momentum due to Giro and accumulated fatigue? I just find it hard to see Opi maintaining this level of dominance for another week. At some point something will happen.
I don’t agree with the analysis at the end regarding Pogacar vs Vingegaard. There is no way that a rider like Pogacar makes so many mistakes in terms of hydration and calories. He himself said earlier that he cracks very easy. Well, obviously he doesn’t very often, but he can overextend during at GT and hamper his recovery over time, which was exactly the reality in last two tours and in accordance with the Visma tactics. There is a lot more to cracking than calories and hydration, for instance the mitochondrial capacity with strenuous exercise, glycolysis, muscle recovery aso. Things that to some extend can be trained but are otherwise genetically determined. I think the tour is decided for now, Pogacar fitness and the lack of a such peak level of Vingegaard this time(although both are producing incredible watts) has simply not pushed Pogi through the tour to make him fall apart in week three, - also due to the lack of Visma team power on both flat and uphill terrain this tour. I think the gap between them will likely increase in the last week. But hopefully Jonas can gain some time, I hope that for the excitement as a viewer. Already looking forward to next years tour. The result this time really puts more excitement into it..
If the tour goes as is for the remaining of the race, Pog should consider the Vuelta. No one has ever won all three in the same season. Not even the GOAT - EM
Funny how everybody thinks JV only drops TP when TP bonks and when pogachar drops vingegaard it is because pogachar is stronger. Its a 3 week race so to be consistant is very important. More so than being the strongest 2 or 3 days.
Chris... maybe your bonking theory is right, but, the recent 6.98w/kg of Tadej vs the 6.85w/kg over 39 mins, tells me that if Jonas would have not spent the last 3 months without racing and out of a hospital, that he would be as strong or stronger than Pogacar. Jonas explosiveness has never been as good as the Slovenian, but It seems to me Jonas doesn't have his own explosiveness this year, which makes sense after what happened to him.
Also Tadej's issue was heat instead of fueling. Both times he could not keep up was due to the high heat on mountain stage. This stage was hot but not enough to break Tadej. If Jonas gets a chance for a high heat mountain stage today or Friday - then maybe we can Jonas takiing some time back
he won’t because tadej trained a lot with his new coach for this stages with high energy expanditure and heat,on plateau de beille it was hot 28 degrees and on the valley 33-35
Well Chris ,it sounds more like a chess match than a race! I think about the movie ,The Great white hope with James Earl Jones 1970. He was to fight a man bigger and stronger than he was in South America ,who was white, hence the great white hope. Jones came out and was taking a beating ! Then came round 11 Jones came out punching, punching hard! His opponent was taking a severe beating. It wasn't long before Jones had punched himself out .The next round his opponent came out and unleased a fury of punches to the exhausted Jones and won the fight! Visma needs to be careful here and not punch themselves out and lose the race for sure.
I’m gonna go on Record and say so far I have had the most accurate predictions of 2024 TDF. I am not saying I am better than anyone just saying I have been able to predict the race between GC riders better than any analyst, and I am out of professional sports for over a decade. I understand you have to be neutral and very fair and probably not able to say many things you want to say. So I get your perspective, but what I don’t understand is why people with so much conviction predict and bottom line offend Tadej is beyond my understanding… for example your buddies at The Move… yesterday they said 100% Pogaca and 100% Jonas, Jonas wins. I think that was 100% knucklehead statement. To be fair Lance didn’t say that. He was as surprised as I was when they made that statement.
Agree. I'd say The Move spouts BS at times. Not nearly as analytical as Horner is. I did see where they walked back their 100% statement after the episode. Sure they caught some flack for it.
@@laxplaysu91EPO doesn’t work that fast… and there’s a 43% hematocrit limit now. I have zero idea how they managed to beat Pantani without the hematocrit boost he had!
One thing I can't understand about certain fans' view about the Jonas vs. Tadej rivalry is the following: When Tadej wins everything from monuments to Grand tours in one year, it's simply because he is talented. Now he is probably about to do the elusive double (Giro/Tour), which hasn't been done since Pantani. He is an entertainer and rides to his strengths. When he attacks and uses his amazing explosivity, it is because he can gain something from it. And instead of appreciating Tadej for what he does, fans wants Jonas to do the same, which would in most cases turn to failure for Jonas. Personally I would hate if Jonas tried to be something, that he is not. Why can't we just appreciate the dynamics of this rivalry? And the differences of the riders?! I love the fact, that Jonas has been able to challenge Tadej these last couple of the years, so that the man doesn't win every god damn race. Furthermore, Jonas has been able to win the Tour for several reasons, and one of them being his meticolous preparation and focus on Le Tour. (All though he has also won other week long races and would probably have won more, were it not for this horrible crash.) When Jonas does something amazing on a bike, it's called suspicious. But when you take time to analyze the TT from 2023 you see the risks he takes, and how much time heactually takes on the descents... Much like how much time Tadej has been taking on descents this year. Jonas has been peaking for the Tour and Tadej has been peaking for several races. This year Tadej seems superhuman, and I'm not saying that he is doped, but I am saying that peaking so many time in a year and being that much better in every terrain is physically much more "incroyable", than winning Le Tour two years in a row spending your energy wisely. So if Jonas is doped, Pogacar sure as hell is doped too.
I don't think Remco said he had big balls, I think he was saying Visma was racing without balls on the gravel stage since Jonas didn't want to work on the front.
Nah!!!! 😂 dont defend him. Regardless, the implication is that if the other doesn't have balls, he must have them. And that interview will hunt him. Regardless of the actual words, he implied that he had the big balls to race. And hence, everyone wondering why he is racing to defend 😂
@@vaibhavsharma2700 Remco himself has said in multiple interviews that both Pog and JV are on a different level (both before and after the balls comment). There's no way he was thinking he was better than JV. He was just disappointed JV didn't pull because that would probably secure him at least 3rd place in GC. He know it's not Jonas' job to pull there, which he even acknowledged in the very same interview. Have you watched it? Outside of that , he actually is some big shot. Look at his palmares at 24 years old, and he's about to add a podium spot in his first ever TdF.
Any thoughts that Vis a might try a Froome/Giro tactic? Worked for Froome but he was over 3 mins down and no one expected that. Can't understand how a leader can't get enough calories. Someone in the car surely monitors the amount going over to him and all the team should be able to offer something to cover any gaps where calories have been missed
Victor actually got famous in the 2017 Giro d'Italia where he did the TT in stage 10 and at the end he revealed his chest with a dating proposal to a friend.
I really think Pogacar has the Yellow all the way to the end. Vingegaard is gonna have to pull something Spectacular from his team or he's gonna have to attack harder than before but I'm hoping to see something before the time trial 🤔👊🤘🦋🦋
Wild. Is a U-turn really faster than finishing the round-about when you consider the cost of getting back to speed (especially if you have a team car in front).
Jonas would have had a better change if Stage 17 and 18 swapped order - we would have had 3 consecutive mountain stage. I think on the second or third Vingego would have made some time. Then he could have a nice fighting chance at the TT
I didn’t forget that. I can’t cover every attack in the same video and I have no problem giving a 15” gap to anyone but 15” is not the kind of gap that wins you the TdF. So I left it out on purpose. Marginal gains only. 😂👊🦋
@@ChrisHornerCycling But Tadej also never realy had a bigger Gap on Jonas in the Tour de France (were it matters, cause only here both are or should be in top shape) then this marginal Gap (even much less...I think only under 10 Seconds), since Jonas is the Team Captain. Its only the other way arround, that Jonas is having bigger gaps to Tadej. That is, what most people and also most experts forget to mention. And if we look back to 2020, Tadej was not even the best rider in the mountains. There he lost also time on the same mountain, he lost time against Jonas in 2023 (Col de la Loze). It was not a lot that he lost to Roglic and Lopez, but he also was only a little bit faster then Kuss that did not even pulled full (rightfully so), after he set up Roglic´s attack. If Jonas would be there in the shape as he was since he is a leader and not injured, he would put much more time into those guys. Cause one thing is for sure, if Jonas attacks, Sepp does not stay inside a few secounds behind him, if Sep is only finishing the stage as an helper. Then he puts minutes into him and so he also would had put minutes into everyone else. At least this possibility is much more reasanoble then the other way arround. And so Tadej is only put time into Jonas in the 2024 Tour...and this time Jonas was badly injured and its clear, that he can not be on his best form. So, as you can clearly see, on this topic you do not get your facts right. But like I often say, your channel is outstandig and I realy enjoy your content very much.
Heat, lack of nutrition and constant attacks by Visma with a team that included Wout, Laporte, Kuss and Roglic et Al... Without both Kuss and Roglic he needs a miracle with the form Pogs in... The one stage where Pog didn't eat properly saw Jonas rider over a 35sec gap... He'll need 10 more mountain stages to catch him.
33 degrees Celsius at the Tour today. I had this weird thought, how long before climate change makes the Tour unfeasible? I mean even 33 degrees for a 150km is a real slog.
Girmay should still be locked in for the win in the points as there is no way Philipsen will contest the finish in the remaining stages, so he just needs to shadow Philipsen if he tries to go in the break for the intermediate sprints or hopes most/all the points are hoovered up by the break if neither of them are in it.

Totally agreed! When the anti-Pog crowd jumped on this at stage 11, I was also thinking it's a blessing in disguise.
This TdF is a wrap if Tadej rides smart and clean... and doesn't get COVID.

This Tour is not over until they reach the finish line in Nice.

back in the day, that's what we ate to keep us fueled on long training rides. 120 miles on a Snickers and a Coke. Things have definitely changed.
Jonas did his best watt/kg . But he also said he is lighter this year because of his injury. So his absolute power is less .

Same. I'm a Jonas fan mainly because of that exact assessment.
In other words, if Pogi dopes, Jonas loses.
Yep. That’s what I’m saying. 👊🦋
Why was the Visma guy fined!? What could he have done differently?
@@peterfireflylund maybe not draft for km's? just a thought
Dude, 19 mins in I remembered why I clicked on the video 😂 Great video like always

Great analysis about Jonas vs Tadej - 💯
Great stage breakdown.
The remaining mountain stages are brutal so anything can happen but I expect UAE to control the peloton, all Pogi needs to do is stay on Jonas’ wheel and he wins
yep, but pogs will still want the stage wins haha
@@PazLeBon Yes, he's an incredibly insecure rider. Reminds me of Novak Djokovic in a way. I'm surprised he doesn't sprint against Jasper on the flats.

I agree with your analysis of beating Tadjei. Looking forward to the next 3 days. I don't know how many days he can hold 7 watts per kilo for 45 minutes again. I think the race will be really interesting and somebody that has been sick or not running on all cylinders could emerge
Thats the problem for Jonas. Pogi won’t need 7 watts per kilo if he is sitting on Jonas’s wheel in the draft. 👊🦋💪
Best analysis you have ever given on Tadej vs Jonas.....
Hi Chris
Can you analyze giro d'Italia women's end as well??
I think that the development of the race between kopecy and longo Borghini has been quite similar to your vuelta a espana in 2013!
I'm just wondering if Remco is planning to make up the ~2m + some on the last stage TT and overtake Jonas. Its certainly possible. I don't think Jonas has the training depth right now to peak in the last week and/or the TT stage like in '23. TP might be looking to FLEX this year and win all three grand tours. Maybe we'll see JV, TP, RE and PR in the Vuelta after a few weeks of recovery and training. one can only hope.
Spot on. My thought here is that Visma Lease a Bike are down on man power and form in the team for this chaos effect to happen but you never know!!
This doesn’t mean it won’t happen again, but I think this is very unlikely to happen due to a “mistake”.
so he needed a poop
I'm not a GC and I never forget to eat and hydrate on my rides...
He won't.
You’re right lol. It’s pretty inexcusable
@@mikeklod
Hm…not sure it’s 100 % about the actual food, maybe it’s also about the “delivery system”…I remember last year, before the big bonk, he had a little crash.
Great insight on why Pogacar has lost the last two. I never noticed that. Thanks Chris.
The only threat to Pogacar is Pogacar ! I completely agree it was lack of calories whenever he’s been dropped! Pogi is the best rider no question !
At this point in time, only mechanical problem, a fall...this time the no 1 kid on butterfly is in superb shape
Go Bini!!! And Ya the traffic islands were insane. Love the bunnyhop moves.
Chris, after today's Alphs stage 17, is it over?

We had fixed that in the video. It was just a bad habit to say Soren KA after Soren. Because SKA doesn’t ride for Uno-X either. 😜👊🦋📺
Great analysis
I havent' heard anyone comment on the previous sprint finish when Pogacar was up with the sprinters until nearly the end with Jonas back in the pack. It was clearly an attempt by Tadeh to get some seconds on the finish during the sprint stage and was only thwarted by the fact that there was a crash. I thought that was a brilliant but risky tactic. Worked the other way around yesterday....
Jonas may be lucky to hold onto 2nd. He has been looking very fragile, particularly after he almost crashed into the barriers.. I expect him to lose substantial time Friday thru Sunday.
Your wrong Chris Horner ..
The reason pogi is not going to lose. Is because Chuck Norris is climbing Mount Everest, and cant be bothered.😂
Maybe they should give a UAE domestique the job of keeping Tadej well hydrated & fed as their solo task for the upcoming stages!😅
They will. This is their main job in the coming stages.
This guy should be on the NBC/Peacock broadcast. Excellent analysis.
In 22 and 23, Visma also had two super-riders versus Tadej. In some instances they would tag-team Tadej and force him to cover breaks from both. The super-rider I'm talking about is Primoz, not Sepp 😀Without Primoz, Jonas has much reduced leverage.
Primoz wasn’t in the team for 2023 tho
@@tonyg3091wasn't he until he crashed?
@@janefreeman995 no. Wasn’t in the team at all. Jumbo screwed him as they promised him the Vuelta then put Jonas on the team and then gifted it to Sepp so naturally Primoz left

Hey Chris, what are your thoughts on the polka dot jersey? Does it seem to have too much overlap with the yellow these days?
Not even the GOAT - EM
next year maybe. then he can take the first tours easier
Funny how everybody thinks JV only drops TP when TP bonks and when pogachar drops vingegaard it is because pogachar is stronger. Its a 3 week race so to be consistant is very important. More so than being the strongest 2 or 3 days.
Chris’ biker glove tan is amazing
🤣🤣🤣 "it's all in the small details here at the Butterfly effect" CH
Chris... maybe your bonking theory is right, but, the recent 6.98w/kg of Tadej vs the 6.85w/kg over 39 mins, tells me that if Jonas would have not spent the last 3 months without racing and out of a hospital, that he would be as strong or stronger than Pogacar.
@@ianisene23 wasn't it 33-35 the whole stage last year ?

Sure they caught some flack for it.
so it's simple...Visma sabotages Pogs musettes and steals the Snickers and Coke.

I don't think Remco said he had big balls, I think he was saying Visma was racing without balls on the gravel stage since Jonas didn't want to work on the front.
dead on right CH has missed that key distinction. And regardless, he drew JV out on stage 15 and forced JV to put up or shut up.

Jonas would have had a better change if Stage 17 and 18 swapped order - we would have had 3 consecutive mountain stage. I think on the second or third Vingego would have made some time. Then he could have a nice fighting chance at the TT
Jonas also dropped him on mont ventoux in 2021, how do you forget???
I agree completly!
This was one of your best analysis. I learned a lot 👍
