Hello there, you've caught me researching a game on this RUclips channel that I bought specifically because of the enthusiastic recommendation on this same RUclips channel.
Opposite for me. I couldn't finish it, as it was ridiculously grindy and I remembered how much I hate turn based JRPG combat. This game looks interesting though.
@@carpetclimber4027 You really don't have to grind in P5, I ended up using Cerberus as my end game Persona (really under leveled) and if you don't like grinding maybe JRPG's aren't for you because most of them are just that, it's the reason I hated the first Ni No Kuni.
I'm not sure what to think about this now, after learning there will be no familiars. I'm still in love with Ni No Kuni, but I think a lot of people feel the same when I say that while they were only a part of an overall masterpiece, the familiars themselves and the game play that came with them were fantastic.
Level 5 is an amazing company. They made the super underrated game rogue galaxy. Just before the PS2 moved to PS3. I can see they are both visually similar
@@mrmagoo-i2l I just finished rev kingdom 15mins ago and i havent felt this way for a game in along time, the story really came into its own in the end, and the gameplay is so satisfying, deep, varied, just everything about this game really blew me away. granted i played ver 3.00 on hard mode so the complaints about it being too easy were lost on me. anyways, with that rant outta the way, im very truly considering getting a one month subscription to psnow just to play wrath of the white witch.
@matt odlum please do play the first game... It's charming as hell.. if you enjoy turn based combat then even better. I'm downloading number 2 now as I've had my eye on it for a while.
More Nintendo than Nintendo. Glad Level 5 went forward and made a sequel. Ni no Kuni fills out the ps4 portfolio nicely. Hollie should star as the new Welsh side character.
I think the only jrpg i've really played was Kh 1,2 and 3 but i'm an fan just because of Rob, the way he talks about jrpgs and games in general it makes me love them more.
Awesome review. Thank you for going in depth. Not the biggest RPJ fan but this game looks & plays beautifully. Definitely getting this game now that it's on sale.
to me at a first game it reminds me of "Tales of Ni No Kuni" maybe those pikman will be an interesting part of combat but with what I've seen it looks like they're just there not doing much at all
^ I can say now that after playing it that it is similar...but the battles have alot of extras like the higglies (with each having their own skills) and you can roll...Ni no has HUGE bosses....every character has a ranged attack....you can charge it...and the spells too...though Im basing this off of only playing Berseria...in a Ni no dungeon the monsters are already on the field no loading... there's Kingdom building and mini RTS army battles which Tales doesn't have...so to me the battles are like Tales but also have their own feel/originality...all in all Im enjoying it
The art style and the fact that this game isn't likely to be a massive deconstruction of traditional gaming/fantasy tropes. I would have said that the Higgldie (sp?), but they kinda remind me of a Pikmin-oriented version of Tales of the Abyss' Field of Fonons mechanic.
I like it when you guys give a tour around the Sky Pirate base! I'm so stoked to see a lot of people there and surprised that there's a little boy who is eagered to fly when he gets older! Best video ever! :)
The game almost lost me when you said Ghibli is not involved in part 2. But then you said, Hisaishi-san is going to deliver the soundtrack and now it's a must have for me. I saw Joe Hisaishi in Paris last month and I never cried so much during a live concert. His music is just incredibly beautiful.
A friend of mine is playing Persona 5 as his first JRPG and he is enjoying it. I will send him this video now. I want to convince him to get this once it's released. wish me luck.
Sometimes I just feel like playing something totally different to the Western games I play so often. The Last Guardian was my GOTY of 2016, and Ni No Kuni 2 is very high on my most wanted list even though I'm not a big JRPG fan at all...
Wait, Ni no Kuni was hard? That's news to me! Only thing that really got difficult was that if you didn't do too many of the bulletin board quests, the bosses about 30 hours in would be tougher. The game only ever boiled down to spamming familiars, spamming your high-level magic, and then regenerating your magic to repeat the high-level magic spam. That's part of the reason I'm glad the familiars are gone, they were fun, but they felt tacked-on, and took away from what could've been much better combat mechanics. NnK 2 looks like a huge improvement in this regard.
i don't need reasons to play this masterpiece. Im in love with the first game, it's my favorite game on ps3 and one of favorites of all time. I got platinum and i want to get 100% completition in this one! im ready! :P
Ni no kuni 1 was great. I got stuck on the genie boss and didnt come back to it again lol only reached level 20. Need to get back into that long as good games stop flooding the market🙄
Rob/Hollie, great video! I really want to get this game as it looks amazing! Do you suggest me picking up the first one or is this a completely new story (like the FInal fantasy format)??? #playstationaccess
I’m not a big fan of JRPGs but I was at Best Buy one day. I had a $10 reward certificate and was looking for a new game. I have over 150 in my collection already so it’s hard to find new ones to buy. I read reviews on my phone and they were quite good so I bought it. It was $19.99 plus I had my certificate and my gamers club so I paid $6.36. Not bad
I was a green eyed xbox scrub when the 1st game was released, the first lets play i tuned into. Really hyped for this 1, so much so im picking up southpark after.
Thank you so much for reccomending this to me. About 80% to platinum so far and ill be genuinely upset when i finish it. Just got some skirmishes and higgledy stones to clear. After that ill be trying persona 5 also on your reccomendation
I really hope they bring the 2nd one to the switch as well. I bought the first one on my switch at game stop on Friday. And i have put 19 hours in so far. MY FAVORITE GAME in years
same, not sure if I'm going to get this now. Also I've not even played the game yet and I'm sick of hearing the main character say "I'm counting on you" I think I'd probably rage quit just from that lol
I bought a PS3 yesterday just to play the first one! I can't believe I missed it. I'm a 36 year old hard core FPS gamer and I feel like a 16 year old again looking forward to FF7. I don't know why but I'm more excited for Ni No Kuni 2 than I am for any other game of 2018.
If any game needs an upscale and porting to ps4 its ni no kuni 1. But i am looking really forward to this, minus the chibi style characters on the overworld. ( never liked the big head look).
Legit question, I never played the first, but the second has looked better and better with each video, so does that mean I'll be completely confused if I just jump right into the second or will I have to play the first to understand the second?
The higgledees are so cute! They remind me of Pikmin. The game looks really nice and I can't wait to play it after I finish Ni No Kuni Wraith of the White Witch
Id like to add Dragons Dogma, Final Fantasy 12(currently playing zodiac age and Im loving it so far), and World of Final Fantasy to that list. The ds/3ds also has a ton of good ones too. (also Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy in general are some of my faves they got me into rpgs when I was younger).
when i whach your shows they make me feel like a kid again, love your shows and carnt wait for this game, loved the first nino kuni, gonna enjoy this one to, keep up the good work your all nice to listen to and whach...
im scratching my head at why some people are turned away from this game for having smol characters on the overworld like wat, you're supposed to be small, it's an overworld i can think of a million other things japanese games do that drive me nuts but this one at least seems logical
hello people of playstation I have an issue with my online cloud storage it's says I've used six percent yet says it is full and will no longer upload saves I have read online it's beacuse it's backing up my screens shots from when you get trophies i turned this option off but it's carnt find where they have been saved too on the cloud or how too too delet them any ideas ?
The only things which lets this game down and in a way spoils it which could have been taken away in the space of it being pushed back three times, is the constant need to put in real life mobile apps into a JRPG. For a start, Leafbook... I don't see why we need a Facebook type thing in it. The chibi skirmishes which is pretty much clash of clans, kingdom builder which is like any other mobile strategy game where you build a kingdom and maintain it. Also the puzzle floors where you have to solve the riddles with the platform steps disappearing, there are also many mobile phone puzzle games like that too. The Higgledies are cute yes, but there is no need for them to be in the game, you don't even need them in combat with you as the battles are way too easy, especially as Evan has his wand which fires out elemental attacks at the enemies and drops them in one or two moves, so to have elemental Higgledies is complete waste of time. They're pretty much just for merchandise purposes for people to want to buy little figures of them. The Lisa Simpson look alike fairy was definitely shoe horned into Evans life as opposed to Ollie and Mr Drippy where Mr Drippy served a purpose and had a reason to be there, Lisa Simpson is just there to form a bond with the king which has no emotional value. The characters are ok and the story is a bit bland, but I feel this game has definitely been over hyped and isn't what classic Ni No Kuni is supposed to be. Take out those 'mobile games' within the game and you have a classic JRPG. The scores for this game are definitely over scored. I'd put it under Ni No Kuni 1, and give it a 5/10. It's a shame Ni No Kuni has become like this now. Studio Ghibli should have taken the reigns of this one as it's not a very compelling story, evil guy takes over a kingdom and rebels fight to get it back. Compare that story with NNK1 and it's loving charm it gives to the player all the way through and you find yourself thinking 'is this it? Is this all they could muster as a sequel after 8 years? There are many stories out there where evil people take over kingdoms' but NNK1 was a fresh new intelligent story which really made you think I received my kings edition and it’s stunning, but the beginning of the game is a bit awkwardly suggestive, a nuclear weapon goes off in New York and the president gets taken away... kinda feels like today’s North Korea wanting to send a missile to America... Probably best not to put in real life situations with what world leaders want to do to one another in a sweet and innocent game 😕
I'm super bummed that they got rid of the familiars. This looks like a Tales game, which isn't bad, just not what I wanted. There more I see of this game the less hyped I get. Still keeping my pre-order, for now...
Exactly what I was thinking too! It transformed from a pokemon look a like game to a tales look a like game. I liked how it was before.... this.. this I am not so sure about? But hey! If the story is as good as the first one I might give it a try at a much later time.
The main story enemy’s where decently challenging but nothing I would call really hard and the optional bosses where insultingly easy. The tournaments in the temple of trials where challenging. Not gone lie.
Great game - loved playing it, just wish it was a bit more challenging. Elements, status effects etc don’t ever seem to come into play and battles never seem to need much strategy or different tactics.
"It's not a childish game. Now let me tell you about Evan Pettywhisker from Ding Dong Dell". HmmmmmmmI hadn't heard about this game so I was instantly excited. Now I am very worried as other than being beautiful it sounds like it dropped everything that I enjoyed from the first. Ni No Kuni 1 was one of my first platinums when I almost never get platinums.
I have too poor of an internet connection to stream the first Ni No Kuni. I get a little anxious every time there's a video about it, because I really want to play it. ☹️
Speaking of the great localization in the first game, do remember the line "Rodney you plonker" in the fairy village. ? though that worked in the UK I do wonder what the rest of Europe got ?.
Never finished Ni No Kuni 1 not because I did not like it, I loved the art direction, the music and voice acting, it's just that I had too many games I did not finish at the time and eventually the magic of that game wasn't strong enough to keep me invested beyond a certain point. However this game looks stunning as well and I feel like if I ever got the time I won't be against going back to that magical world.
so we have a combat system that made up it's mind between turn based and real time and what was oliver's surname cause i'm pretty sure you don't get much more ridiculous surnames than pettiwhisker

The way that cape moves: it's such a simple touch, but oh my goodness does it look good. I wanna get this just for that wavy cape.
Level 5 is an amazing company. They made the super underrated game rogue galaxy. Just before the PS2 moved to PS3. I can see they are both visually similar
Matthew Norzan I played it a long time ago and just got it one my ps4 and it brings back such good memories
Dark Cloud 2 was another Level 5 gem. Wasn't exactly underrated like rogue galaxy was but still kinda under the radar. Dragon Quest 8 was another.
Rogue galaxy and dark cloud dark4 chronicle amazing games
i enjoyed white knight chronicles
Matthew Norzan this or kingdom hearts remix
Hearing Hollie say 'Higgledies' is pure magic XD
Rest In Peace all my little monsters from game one

Just got the game loving it so far about 10 hours in, I'm not a rpg fan at all or Japanese cartoons and yet here I am ingrosed in it
I'm going to give it a try when it's released. Haven't played JRPGs in a while.
I cannot wait for this game!
It would make the year if they released the first one for PS4!
so how is time handled in this? Its suppose to be centuries after the first, but the real world is decades? time seem to run side by side the 1st one
i feel kingdom hearts battle vibe. its good move from Level 5, to not keep the same style as before :D
Ni No Kuni or Persona? I only have time to play one of them before the summer ends.
Netret0120 both 😅
Netret0120 persona
Great game - loved playing it, just wish it was a bit more challenging. Elements, status effects etc don’t ever seem to come into play and battles never seem to need much strategy or different tactics.
"It's not a childish game. Now let me tell you about Evan Pettywhisker from Ding Dong Dell". HmmmmmmmI hadn't heard about this game so I was instantly excited. Now I am very worried as other than being beautiful it sounds like it dropped everything that I enjoyed from the first. Ni No Kuni 1 was one of my first platinums when I almost never get platinums.
It's almost here!!!!
I have too poor of an internet connection to stream the first Ni No Kuni. I get a little anxious every time there's a video about it, because I really want to play it. ☹️
Game looks awesome the gameplay the animation the graphics it all looks great can't wait to get a ps4.
Ni No Kuni was the first game I ever Platinum'd. Took me about 150 hours to finish all the content!
Loading screen at 0:46 has an alien waving it's dong around in the bottom right hand corner???
so we have a combat system that made up it's mind between turn based and real time and what was oliver's surname cause i'm pretty sure you don't get much more ridiculous surnames than pettiwhisker
so we have basically gone from pokemon to pikmin
seriously wtf
Pretty much
Not exactly an 100% original franchise is it
