    I love my 2001 Suzuki Xl7. I have had it for almost 4 years now and it has 230k now only done regular maintenance and the timing chain at 180k it would rattle a little on start up but the timing chain kit took care of that. :)

    These are great vehicles, especially in the snow 👍

    I bought mine new. I love it today, 2023, 187 thousand miles, not great mileage, and a small tank, but it's great.

    Just bought a 2004 Suzuki XL7. In pretty good condition, runs nice, and under 100,000 miles but I HATE when STUPID manufactures put the gas lid on the WRONG side of the vehicle

      Hey captain obvious, we know there's no technical "right" side....that's the point he's making
      These foreign companies can easily make it technical for putting the filler nozzle on the side which makes sense for that particular country, and they can still do it by remaining multi-billion dollar companies

      it's really doesn't matter what side it on your speedometer it will point to the direction of your gas tank you just have to remember where it is I have one of these too💜

      Passenger side is the best for USA .. if you run out of gas and need to refill on the side of road it reduces risk

    No offense intended but...
    These little truck-sters were best suited for the ranch owner's wife to go to town in while not draining the bank in fuel costs. It's for those headed to the ski hill before the plows. It's for the weekend wilderness warrior heading out on a logging road to a fishing lake with all the latest Cabella gear.
    Don't get me wrong right out of chute. I'm a fan of these things. I'm on my 2nd 2002 XL7.
    My first XL7 was pretty much stock. A 4500 lb winch on the front kept me out of trouble but the low clearance and longish wheelbase made it pretty much a gravel road hauler. The plastic rocker trim is the first victim of anything more adventurous as well as thoroughly beat frame cross members.
    My current 2002 has a 2 inch lift, 31 inch 215 85/16s for nearly 9 inches of clearance. This really is required for it's length if you really want to get beyond a rural backroad. A portable 4500 lb winch stored in the back is also a good thought as this lightweight does not like extra weight added to it. Contrary to the video, I found pulling a 3000 lb boat any distance in the mountains of British Columbia just painful. This 2.7 litre 6 cylinder motor needs high revs to reach it's power band.
    Manual hubs are also critical. The CVs are turning all the time as they are linked permanently to the hubs. The shaft going into the dif rests on the bearing/seal wearing them out prematurely, especially with the suspension rattling off pavement.
    But here is the problem of getting too far from the highway or manicured gravel forestry roads or the snowy roads to the ski hill in an XL7.
    The front differential is aluminum...and they break. I did 2 on the first car, bought a replacement to find it with a crack and have a broken one on the current. Suzuki. Forums are full of stories and axle swaps. As Suzuki pulled out of North America in 2015ish, these stock differentials are getting real tough to find. I've been searching wrecker databases (Canada) for over 1 year.
    I love these little truck-sters. But without critical parts supply and a weak front dif, it will be like losing a wonderful dog after years of dedication.
    It's 2020. That time may have come.
    ...until they bring us the Jimney...;-{)

      Hello,and thank you for your input. I have been into these 2nd gens (99+ trackers and grand vitaras/xl7s) for many years. I am quite aware of their inherent issues. I have installed the nylon support bushing in all of my front diffs in my Suzukis. In my 2 trackers I have deleted the air pump system for the front diffs. I wheel the trackers and daily the XL7. I have wheeled the XL7 from time to time, but having the aluminum front diff with the weight of the vehicle, you can't wheel it hard or it will break. I have a steel diff in my 02 4 door zr2 on 33s and it was well needed. My 00 tracker is rocking 31s and the aluminum diff. It gets wheeled hard and hasn't broke yet ( courtesy of 5.13 gears and 4.24 transfer case gears). All of my Suzukis also have Warn hubs. Yes, these XL7s were not intended by Suzuki for heavy wheeling, but with a few mods, they are quite capable. As for towing, they are rated for 3,000 lbs, but the little 2.7 will be gasping for air on a hill with that weight. I can pull 2,000 lbs with no problem. I also buy these 2nd gens and part them out all the time, so parts are easy for me to come by.

      02 and up have the steel front diff housing. 5 speed manual is really nice with the little V6. I average 23mpg summer 20mpg winter with some 4x4 snow driving in hilly central PA 😊 in 214k miles have replaced the primary timing chain and clutch... Drives like new!

    Hey man, been a while since you’ve put up a vid. Run those exact same tires (same size even) on my 04 Grand Vitara. Love them. Didn’t realize they will fit on the stock spare carrier. Did you modify it or does it clear as it was? Also, heard mixed reviews about the intake crossover. Some say delete it, some don’t. Only reason I ask is it seems quite restrictive since the intake has to neck down to go under it. Ever delete one and does it make any noticeable difference? Some claim a little more low end torque with it deleted.

    • @MrSputnik1988
      @MrSputnik1988  5 лет назад

      Hey there, spare carrier is stock with no mods... The crossover is just a buffer region and acts sort of like a harmonic balancer for the intake. I actually have the crossover tube sealed off with blocking plates on each side .. I forgotten to mention it when doing my video... Yes, makes a difference, but not a huge one. It's supposed to move some of the available torque down a thousand RPM or so. Some people do it to have space for a bigger intake tube, I did it to see what the hype was about lol

    • @marchanson2495
      @marchanson2495 5 лет назад

      MrSputnik1988 guess I’ll be capping the intake in the spring. Already picked up new belts and iridium plugs, etc for this spring. Keep the videos coming.

    I just bought another set of tires, they are 265/75/R16 so they are approximately 31.5. I have a 2 inch lift so I hope they fit even if I have to cut the inner plastic a bit

    • @Raccoonwithab1unt
      @Raccoonwithab1unt 4 месяца назад

      Just did something similar. Ive got a rubber lift kit that slides in the springs. plus i have tires 2 inches bigger than standard. You need at least 1.5-2 inches of lift to have clearance to not rub on anything. but if for some reason it still does just but the plastic up a couple inches. between 10-30 mph its like 1-3 mph faster then what your speedometer says but anything over 30 starts getting to 4-7 mphs over what your speedometer says so keep that in mind when driving.

    Some people might think I'm crazy but I have a 2004 Suzuki that I'm in love with. Although some mechanics do not like these cars and I do not know why it has never given me hardly any problems at all. I have $150,000 miles on mine and I do need to doll it up a little I'm going to upgrade the tires and pimp them out. I wanted to put mud tires on it and I wanted to know what size is could I go with. The one thing I did not like about the car since day one is the size of the tires because 235 60 16s look like they're flat most of the time even when they have air in them. I would like a mud tire with better side walls but I may have to stay with the same rims I'm not sure what to do I'm doing my homework right now. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated and Merry Christmas. I'm a Suzuki gal and I tow a 6x8 trailer with a mower.

      I have a 2004 suzuki xl7 that has had plenty of work on it. Mines reliable but the only problem I've had was the engine was so powerful going pedal to the floor that it blew a hole out of the radiator. every other modification was done for style or performance reasons on my own time. But it is genuinely a pain to get the radiators out and in of those cars. the oil filter is next to impossible to get out because its in a very small space. and the cars suspension is a pain in the ass to tried and put kits on other then just rubber slide ons. The cars are very reliable and awesome but they are japenese cars that are designed very differently then cars in america so they hate working in the smaller spaces that suzuki offers.

    My daughter lives in Colorado Springs. I'm looking for her a reliable awd vehicle for $5500 or less. I want to like this Suzuki. It has almost no entries on carcomplaints.com. There is a 2002 for sale here in Texas. But the kickers are the fuel mileage and slow acceleration. You got any suggestions on other options? I would consider a Subaru if the head gasket and timing belt have been recently repaired.

      find a maintenance shop that somewhat specializes in imported cars. because suzukis in america are built to be in america but are still styles internally like japenese cars so they are very different.
